I was a child stripped of my innocence
living in a world of cruel intentions
begging for the day I'd no longer cry
I blame myself not knowing why
I hold back my emotions, I hold back every tear
for exposing you to my sadness is what I fear
for you to know and your smile to fade away
would completely destroy me and lead me astray
so this smile I wear is to keep you safe
from the pain hidden behind my face
