Brin286's rants and raves
I'm not expecting anyone to really read it, so I'll just be spouting off opinions about stuff. Most likely anime, manga, and dramas.
Why doesn't the nice guy ever win?
OK, so I've been watching Goong for a while and I got to episode 22 last night. I am so pissed. Why? Why can't the heroine of anime, manga, dramas, ever pick the guy that I want her to pick? In Goong, I was totally rooting for Yul. I don't even understand how Chae-kyung likes Shin better. Ever since the beginning of their marriage, he has treated her badly. He can't express his emotions, and he treats her like a possession. He can't even talk to her like a normal person. I can't even think of a time that they had a conversation about anything. For most of the show he was too concerned with his old girlfriend, and he holds a double-standard for Chae-kyung. He keeps reminding her that she is his wife, but he surely acts like a crappy husband. He's rude to her family and he drags her around by the arm everywhere they go. Every time she cries, it's because of him.

Yul, on the other hand, was there for her every single time she needed someone to comfort her when she was depressed because of the way Shin treated her. He was very open with her from the beginning, and made it very clear that he was in love with her. He made her the priority in his life, and everything that he did was so that he could be with her. He made the decision that he would give up the throne, because nothing was more important to him than her. He basically got himself shunned by his family because he was trying to help her escape from the palace because that was what he thought she wanted. I got really fed-up when she told Yul that she'd never see him again after all the ways that he proved he loved her. I turned off the dvd when he started crying and looked so lost and heartbroken.

I really don't get it. To me Yul is superior to Shin in every way. How did she even fall in love with Shin when he never let her get close, and he was always telling her to mind her own business? They only had a few nice moments, which look like nothing in comparison to the amount of time they spent fighting, and the amount of time she spent with Yul. It was like every time she was with Yul she had a moment with him.

Chae-kyung is so typical of a manga heroine. She has this "goodness" about her, she doesn't hold grudges, and she has to nurture the broken guy, (even though it could be argued that Yul is more broken than Shin). So stupid! How come these female characters always fall for the guy that's the jerk? Why can't they appreciate a man that has treated them well from the beginning? Why do they always go for the guy that seems rough on the outside, but is really "sensitive and damaged and misunderstood?"

Don't they know that he's not going to change? If he's been calling you an idiot the whole time and making you cry, it's not just going to magically stop. It makes me so mad! It's like they don't value themselves enough to make the decision that will be best for them. The nice guy loves them and cherishes them. What is the message that they are trying to send? That a guy who can be open with his feelings and treat you well isn't worth your time?

I don't know why I continue to watch these dramas, and read these manga. I just end-up getting disappointed every time. OK, so maybe I am taking this a little too seriously, but I invest my time and money into these things and I haven't found an ending that I was really happy about yet.

These are the ones that I was a little pissed about.

Fruits Basket- Boo! What a stupid way to resolve a love triangle. "Sorry Tohru, you thought that I liked you? Wrong! You're like a mom to me." Yuki was way better than Kyo. I still don't believe that he never thought of her like a woman. I think that it was more of a self-defense mechanism. He saw that Kyo was winning, so he decided to give up so that Tohru wouldn't feel bad. What the heck was up with adding a love interest for Yuki at the end? I would have preferred that he end up alone, or that it showed him in the distant future with someone.

Hana Yori Dango- Why did Rui have to give up the girl he liked twice for the sake of friendship? What did Tsukasa ever do for Rui? How come the guy that loves her enough to let her go to be happy has to lose? Rui was much more of a gentleman, and Tsukasa acted like a psycho. No matter how much he said he loves Makino, don't you think it's best to stay away from a guy that punches everyone in sight when he gets angry? I really thought that Tsukasa was better with Shigeru anyway.

InuYasha- Ok, so maybe I was rooting for InuYasha too, but I really liked Hojo. It seems that InuYasha is never gonna figure out the whole Kikyo thing, and he really acts like a jerk a lot. Hojo was always concerned for her health, and he acted like a gentleman. What, a nice guy who openly cares about you isn't good enough? Why do these characters get so attached to the insulting guys? I guess InuYasha almost has an excuse though, 'cause of the stuff that happened to him, and the fact that he's a hanyou. But let go of Kikyo already! Jeeze!

Vampire Knight- this one isn't over yet, but I'm already anticipating the anger and disappointment that I will feel once it's over. I am a HUGE Kaname fan. He's the hotness, but if this story follows the rules of manga (which I think it will), then Yuki is going to end-up with Zero. I will endure to the end, hoping that there will still be a chance for Kaname and Yuki. He's already confessed to her and asked her to live with him forever, but she hasn't been very receptive. What an idiot! I mean, he's Kaname!

There are probably others....I'll think of them later.
