Chaprter 1: The warrior on a quest
One day in spring a warrior enters the land of Alvak and there he saw a girl picking flowers in a meadow. She looked like a peasant girl in torn, old rags. One thing about her puzzled him, she had wolf ears, wolf tail, and fangs but her eyes were green just like a humans. He had not ever seen such a person in his life. He stepped on a twig and the girl looked, saw him standing there watching her. She walked over to him and said "hello I'm Shodalin of Alvak. Who are you good sir?"she asks. "I'm Mordichai of Los Varatou please to meet you."he says. "The pleasures all mine good sir. What are you sir if I may ask?" ''I'm a warrior on a mission." he replies. "What kind of mission?" she asks. "Well it's like a quest. he replies. I'm on a mission to find a great book and kill the evil dragon that lives up in the mountains of Mertolia." he says. "Whats the tell of the of the great book you seek?'' she asks. "It's called Sek Kaveik the book of souls." he replies.
“I’ve heard of the book of which you speak” said Shodalin with recognition.
“You have?”
“It was a long time ago, but I can take you to a friend of mine who may know where it is.”
“You can? Thank you miss!”
“Not at all and call me Shodalin, please good sir.”
“Very well, please call me Oreco.”
“Now this evil dragon of which you speak. What’s it’s name?” She asked.
“It’s called the Black Dragon of Chaos. It’s a powerful, strong and fearsome foe that’s been stealing everything of value and causing chaos everywhere and if I slay this dragon I will be a hero and the talk of legends. I just love the sound Sir Oreco of Los Varatou has saved us all” says Oreco dreamily.
They started walking.
“What are you miss if I may ask?”
“I’m a guardian of Earth I nurture, heal, and protect the Earth and every creature on it. The friend of which I spoke is a priestess and very nice. Her name is Ulrica and she lives in Lantolia which is in the next valley. It isn’t far, Mertolia is just five valleys from there across Lake Wild Wind, through the Forbidden Forest, and the Land of Sadness, then through the Forest of Thorns. It’s a long journey and very dangerous.”
“I like dangerous and treacherous roads.”
After walking for what seemed like hours they saw a bend in the road.
“Just around this bend is Lantolia. Where my friend, Ulrica lives.”
“How long have you known Ulrica?”
“For over a decade. We were brought up in different clans, but our parents were good friends and introduced us when were little and we’ve been friends ever since. She’s of the dog clan and I’m of the wolf clan. My mother is a wolf and my father is a dog. So really I’m of both, but the wolf clan raised me. They’re my family. What clan are you from Oreco?” She asked.
“I don’t know what clan I’m from. My father and mother are both humans.” He replied.
“Then you’re of the human clan.”
After they came around the bend they saw Lantolia.
“Here we are Lantolia and there’s Ulrica, waiting for us, she must have heard of our coming” said Shodalin pointing to the figure waving to them.
“Word travels fast in these parts,” exclaimed Oreco.
“Hello there, Shodalin” said Ulrica waving.
“Hello there, Ulrica” replied Shodalin.
“Who is this handsome fellow with you?” asked Ulrica looking at Oreco from head to toe.
“He goes by the name Oreco” replied Shodalin.
“I’m very pleased to meet you, Ulrica” said Oreco bowing in respect.
“The pleasures all mine, Oreco” replied Ulrica with a curtsy.
“Is there anything I can do for you Shodalin, since you came all this way” asked Ulrica “there must be something that I can help you with?”
“There is! Do you know the whereabouts of the book Sek Kaveik?” Asked Shodalin.
“Oh, that book has been lost for over half a century no one knows where it is!” Replied Ulrica.
“I think it’s at Mertolia,” said Oreco.
“Why do you think that Oreco?” Asked Ulrica.
“Because I think the Black Dragon of Chaos took it,” replied Oreco. “And I think the book contains information on the dragon’s weak spot and I also think the dragon hid the book so no one could know it’s weakness,” said Oreco.
“So you really think this book will help you kill this dragon?” Asked Ulrica.
“Yes, I do” replied Oreco.
“How do you expect to find this book?” Asked Ulrica.
“Well first I’ll need to hire someone who knows the territory and will be willing to take me to Mertolia” replied Oreco. “Do either of you know where I can find a guide?” Asked Oreco.
“Well we’ve been to Mertolia, haven’t we Ulrica, remember when our parents took us there as a rite of passage into adulthood and we had to prove ourselves worthy by making it through the Forest of Thorns on our own,” said Shodalin.
“Yeah, I remember, how could I ever forget, we were lucky to come back alive and I still have the scar from when I got pricked several times on my back by thorns from the Forest of Thorns” replied Ulrica.
“Would one of you be willing to take me to Mertolia,” said Oreco.
“Well how much are you offering to pay for our services?” Asked Ulrica.
“A hundred pieces in gold and twenty in silver” replied Oreco reaching in one of his bags to pull out the money.
Shodalin and Ulrica stared at the money in Oreco’s hands. Then looked at each other not sure of what to do.
After a few minutes Ulrica turned to Oreco and said “we’ll need some time to think it over.”
“Take as long as you need” replied Oreco putting the money back in his bag. “I’m going to the Inn” said Oreco after gathering all his belongings.
Shodalin and Ulrica nodded. Then went into Ulrica’s house to discuss what they were going to do.
“What do you think Ulrica should we accept the money and guide him to Mertolia?” Asked Shodalin after Ulrica got both of them a hot cup of tea and they sat down at the table.
“I don’t know, I mean we know nothing of this warrior, are you sure we can trust him” replied Ulrica taking a sip of her tea.
“Well he seems sincere and trustworthy” said Shodalin also taking a sip of tea.
