The next day, Ichigo attends his Highschool to find out Rukia has transferred to the school! She explains its now his duty to do her duties as a Substitute Shinigami that includes sending souls back to Soul Society, which is described as souls going to heaven. And the second motion, to defeat Hollows and kill them until her powers regenerate. She also explains shes in a gigai or false body that allows her to temporarily interact with the living world and regenerate her powers that's used for emergency purposes of Soul Society Shinigami.
Rukia then separates Ichigo's soul from his body with a red glove with a skull emblem on it, and forces him to defend his home, Kakaruka town from the Hollows, which he accepts finally reluctantly. Not longer after several Hollows come from their world called Hueco Mundo, and force a soul to become a Hollow that would normally takes months. This is the soul of a sibling that Ichigo knows from his school. His classmate's name is Orihime Inoue, a girl who's cupsize is fan service to all, and envied by many girls in their school.
Ichigo eventually discovers Inoue's brother and is reluctant to kill him because he knows of Inoue's tragic situation after his death as she was left alone with no family. Rukia arrives and tells Ichigo Hollows are souls which have succumb to their own hatred and have lost their hearts to become fallen spirits which survive by feeding on other human souls. Hollows develop a second personality and rage out of control and seal their former identities with masks that resemble things from the Mexican Festival of the Dead. Ichigo then leaves to find Inoue's brother after he escapes. Unknowing to Ichigo, her brother shows up at Inoue's apartment where his classmates Inoue and Tatsuki are.
