I am sick of people acting like comparing American animation to Japanese is like evaluating two completly different things. They are the same medium, they have the same purpose, just because they were made in a different country they are suddenly totally different things?
But people are like "oMg itz a different stylez!" The stylistic trends of animation trade off from countries all the time. In the 1970's alot of Japanese animated cartoons looked very similar to the archetype American cartoon: big white eyes with black pupils, athropodic characters, higher frame.
Now when American animation adapts characteristics from the archetype Japanese cartoon, all of a sudden it's "ZomG itz an aMerIcaN aNiMe!" Do you think when the Japanese saw Doraemon they said, "oH mY bUdDaH, iTz A jApAnEsE cArToOn!" stare
But I won't get into animation history here. Comparing Japanese and American animation is not like comparing a motocycle to a 18 wheeler; it is like comparing a Kurosaki to a Harley Davinson. They're all cartoons. Deal with it.
