OmG itz different stylez
I am sick of people acting like comparing American animation to Japanese is like evaluating two completly different things. They are the same medium, they have the same purpose, just because they were made in a different country they are suddenly totally different things?
But people are like "oMg itz a different stylez!" The stylistic trends of animation trade off from countries all the time. In the 1970's alot of Japanese animated cartoons looked very similar to the archetype American cartoon: big white eyes with black pupils, athropodic characters, higher frame.
Now when American animation adapts characteristics from the archetype Japanese cartoon, all of a sudden it's "ZomG itz an aMerIcaN aNiMe!" Do you think when the Japanese saw Doraemon they said, "oH mY bUdDaH, iTz A jApAnEsE cArToOn!" stare
But I won't get into animation history here. Comparing Japanese and American animation is not like comparing a motocycle to a 18 wheeler; it is like comparing a Kurosaki to a Harley Davinson. They're all cartoons. Deal with it.

Thank-you for being smart in a vast sea of idiots.

I don't understand the psychology of it, but people really are put off by American cartoons and manga. Some people accuse them of just doing it for money, but who's to day Japanese manga-ka aren't doing it for the same reason? And it's probably easier for comic artists in Japan since manga is main stream.

Well, comparing your average Japanese anime to your average American cartoon is complicated business. The aesthetic is different, 'n all. Like Disney's Sleeping Beauty intentionally maximized the number of frames used (to increase the fluidity of the motion), even for something as simple as dipping her foot in the water, while just about any anime focuses more on creating interesting shots (while minimizing the frames used except in very dramatic scenes). So if you compare 1 - 1, gosh, anime is crap for budgets!1!11

...Anyway. I'm all for calling a spade a spade, so when I see a Totally Spies or a Teen Titans, I say "half-assed anime rip-off," while when I see an Avatar: The Last Airbender, I say "hey, that's pretty good." (Because it's obvious when they're half-assing, mang.) Also, when I see every other computer-animated show, I goes nuts. Gawwwd, it's not that great, tv mans.
