Why?

My fav is section 89 because it talks about the word of wisdom and it is always a good section to read and it was revelated on my birthday feb 27.

That's cool that it came on your birthday! I agree with you. It is always worth reading. It's also cool because when it was revealed, most people didn't know that tobacco was bad for you. Some even made fun of Joseph Smith, saying he made it up and that it wasn't from God. Also, there was little knowledge that too much red meat was bad. It seems like everytime someone goes against a true prophet of God, the prophet always has the last laugh!

I have a couple of friends who have trouble keeping the Word Of Wisdom, and it is sad to see how it causes so much trouble in their lives. I don't like it when members who keep it shun members who have trouble with it. They need to fellowship them and be good examples instead of being so judgemental.

Thanks for your cool comments! wink

Does anyone else have a favorite section? If not, are there any verses in the D&C that you like? If not that, are there any numbers in the sections you like? Or, do you have a favorite word?

My favorite section is 93. There is so much information there, you could study it all your life and still have more to learn and understand. eek

I also really love D&C 131 and 132. They are pretty deep and talk about Calling and Election made sure.

Oooo!!! Is that the section that talks about all matter being composed of intelligence!? And that tha's how God and Christ can command thing to do their will!?!? Like when Christ commanded the water to turn into wine, he commanded the intelligence in the matter and it reorganixed itself!!! THAT SECTION IS SO AMAZING!!! I also love the one that talks about the three degrees of glory. Can't remember the number...

Yeah, D&C 93 is incredibly complex! It starts off telling us how we can actually see the Savior in this lifetime. Later it talks about the definition of truth, what it is and what it isn't. Some of the really deep doctrine comes in the next 5 or 6 verses when it talks about intelligence, matter and truth and then gives an incredible accounting of agency. That part alone could keep me busy for the rest of my life. Later on, it gives the scriptural definition of intelligence; Light and Truth. Then it talks about how we lose inteligence and how we gain it and how we protect our children from Satan.

The entire section is simply amazing!!!

I think that one's my fav. It makes most sense to me, even logically! It helps explain everything. The how's, why's, and miracle's.

Degrees of glory? Like the three degrees of heaven? I think that's 131... yeah, 131.
"1. In the celestial glory there are three heavens or degrees;
2. And in order to obtain the highest, a man must enter into this order of the priesthood [meaning the new and everlasting covenant of marriage];..."
It goes on like that. But now you know where it is!! But to me, the greatest of all revalations, was mine. ^-^ That's not in the Book of Mormon anywhere, but it's in my drawer up in my room. mrgreen I love that sheet of paper.

The 3 degrees are also spoken of in 2nd Corinthians.

D&C 131 does indeed speak of the different degrees and gices a short synopsis of how to reach the top. It also speaks of having your calling and election made sure. When it states that no man can be saved in ignorance, the basic understanding is that we all must be aware of our Savior and be taught. The deeper meaning talks about receiving the second comforter and knowing the change that has come over us when we are saved and assured of our future exaltation.

In almost every topic concerning the Gospel, there are several layers of understanding for us to achieve. Jusy like our Patriarchal Blessings. We learn more as we read it, ponder and pray. And then also at different periods in our life, it means more than at other times because we are prepared to learn more.

Another area of the Doctrine & Covenants I like is found in section 130. The last 6 verses are just incredible! 3 Competely different topics are expounded upon and explained.

18 Whatever principle of intelligence we attain unto in this life, it will rise with us in the resurrection.
19 And if a person gains more knowledge and intelligence in this life through his diligence and obedience than another, he will have so much the advantage in the world to come.

20 There is a law, irrevocably decreed in heaven before the foundations of this world, upon which all blessings are predicated.
21 And when we obtain any blessing from God, it is by obedience to that law upon which it is predicated.

22 The Father has a body of flesh and bones as tangible as man's; the Son also; but the Holy Ghost has not a body of flesh and bones, but is a personage of Spirit. Were it not so, the Holy Ghost could not dwell in us.
23 A man may receive the Holy Ghost, and it may descend upon him and not tarry with him.

I like the 4th section because it reminds me of my brother whos on a mission now. He had to memorise it and now it sounds so cool. Kind of like a march to glory type of song. I'm trying to memorise it in case I go on a mission. smile
