Neo: "Those of us who have seen either the manga or the anime or even both have been a witness to Tetsuo Shima's incredible, yet unstable psychic powers. These powers as we all know laid dormant within the teen until the accident on the old highway involving #26 aka Takashi. This encounter seemed to awaken his powers. Now I'd like to hear everyone's theories on how a newfound ability in Tetsuo became so powerful it consumed him. Why and how do you think Tetsuo became so strong in such a short period of time?" question

Teleportation. Not only does it seem to be one that least straining of the powers, but it's also the most useful! In my case, anyways. My school is across the city and then some, all my friends live an hour's drive away, and I can barely run a block before dying from exhaustion. And I'm just so, so lazy.
Telekinesis would tax one's powers too much - especially moving heavy things, blowing the a crater in the moon, it all builds up and backlashes, as we saw with Tetsuo. I also think, from my experience of reading X-men comics, that telepathy would drive me crazy eventually, and mutation...
Yeeee-ah, that's one useful power there. Turn into a giant goo-baby that goes out of control, then crushes your girlfriend within its flabs of flesh. Sexy!
Then, I think there're more than just those four powers that Tetsuo possesses. Wow, there's a lot of S's in possesses. Anyways, yeah. I don't catagorize the head-explodie-ness under telekinesis, and I think that with the power that comes from the Flow, there'd be potential to do more than just what's used by Tetsuo. Example: that Sakaki chick and her friends were all able to do physical feats beyond that of a normal person (aka, jump really, really high? Anyways, much agility), and movie!Takashi seems to possess this physical enchancement power. And maybe even Tetsuo, when he jumped really, really high in the movie. Remember? The stadium?
...
I wanna teleport.

Neotokyo9 Now I'd like to hear everyone's theories on how a newfound ability in Tetsuo became so powerful it consumed him. Why and how do you think Tetsuo became so strong in such a short period of time?" question Okay, now I just veered off topic back there. Anyways: I remember my Akira-loving friend telling me in the special edition of the DVD for the movie, there was a lot of info that wasn't there. One of them being that Tetsuo's grandfather or something was involved with the project that made all those kids wrinkly. I forget how, I'll have to ask her again, but if he's like a second generation psychic-potential, that'd explain how quickly he progressed. That, and he takes DROOOOGS. Anyways, don't quote me on this, I'm not sure.

I would have to choose Telekenisis. Technically, the real form of telekenisis hasn't really been fully explored, but one would attribute the ability for Tetsuo to Fly, Jump Really High, Blow $H!@ up, and basically do some of the really cool things would be thanks to Telekenisis. Telekenisis is the manipulation of objects and space, so I would have to say that it by far is my most wanted "power". Trust me, who wouldn't want to blow up someone who's really pissing you off into to little tiny peices? I know I would. LOL

I beleive that Tetsuo's childhood, his surroundings made him become powerful within such a short period of time. If those 3 wrinkly kids hadn't irritated him in his sleep, all this won't have taken place. Or at least took place so quickly.

He needed alot of power and he had it in him just didn't know how to use it. When he gained access to a large pool of energy he kept access to it. ♠

I've got that. I'll quote another Akira-loving friend of mine on this, she explained it really well (and I'm a lazy a**): Quote: my dumb theory: the power flows through the body like energy, we have energy flowing through our bodies right now - our heart practically runs on electricity. the energy running through tetsuos body kept growing to the point where tetsuos body *and brain* cant handle it! if something doesnt change - his brain will go boom, literally! which is why blood did come out of tetsuos head in one scene so if tetsuo wants to survive his body has to 'change' to handle the immense amount of energy flowing through him its commonly said that the powers take contral over his body at this point - but i think its sorta the other way around. even if your suicidal your body will do what it must to survive, it is a living organism. so tetsuos body did what it must to survive, it used the very power 'killing' it transform into something that can handle the power and for having so much supernatural powers that ordinary humans really were never meant to have..the bad result was something not so..human o.o;;; tetsuos mutations are also a metaphor for rebirth and regression. which is why the final transformation takes the form of a baby. some people think tetsuo goes through a rebirth in the middle of the manga too - the 5th manga i think it was? when he comes back and looks all smug and mutation is the key to evolution. and tetsuo sorta had to evolve just to be sane. how does he regain contral over the horrible mutations? simple, mind over matter [Wink] even though tetsuos body was having trouble having the energy flow through it, the biggest problem is his mind. if he can get his mind straight, then he can fix his 'problems' Apart from that, we know (from the manga) that the Power comes from the memory of the force that created the world (the Big Bang), and that each and every one of our cells still remember that power, and are still caught in the still out-going inertia, the Flow. It's continuously passed down through our DNA, so that every organism on Earth has at least the capacity to use it. (Here, the movie insinuates that it is the same energy that dictates and allows that certain species are capable of; the amoeba verses the person, and such.) Quoth the crazy voice (Miyako again) talking to Kaneda when he was stuck in the goo-baby in the Akira phenomenon when he was kinda merged with the mutated Tetsuo and seeing all his memories (once again, ingrained into the body), "It is the world of the spirit, freed from the shackles of the flesh... Or even deeper: the memory of life itself." It's there we are shown a picture of an unborn baby, progressing further into cells and DNA until we see a depiction of the Big Bang. So then the infantesque form could've been taken on for the reason that it was simpler, closer to the origin of all things, and the source of the Power. I swear, this all made perfect sense in my head. And now there's a kitten lying on my right wrist, so I'll just end this post here.
