Should the death penalty be legal or illegal? Or should it be decided by the states seperatly? Voice opinions here.
Issues to consider: Vicious, malicious slaughters &/or rapes Tax payers pay for criminals to live the rest of their lives in jail What if convict is innocent? Is the Hamarabi's code really justified? Do we have the right the condem a person to death? 1st time offenders
To mods: This might need to go under the politics topic. So if it should be moved feel free to delete.

I'm Catholic, and the Chruch states that no human has the right to take the life of another. So as a Catholic I'm supposed to be against the dealth penalty. And in most instances I am. However, Every so often a murder/rape comes along that is so horrendous, life in jail is too good for that criminal. PLus I dislike the fact that the convicts who get life without porole are in jail for the rest of their lives on the tax payers dime. In jail they get 3 square meals a day, time for exercise (and build-up of muscles. cause that's what they need. bigger muscles), some jails even have libraries and classes for the convicts to attend. People commit fenalies just to go to jail because at least there they'll always have food. Yes I know the attrocities that occur in jail but still, they live better than some.

The way I see it, though, is that prison has gotten to be just as you said, with 3 meals a day and workout time. Other than that, they don't have to do anything. In the old days, prisoners worked for food. They worked all day just to get those meals. Why did that stop? That seems like a good punishment to me.
Also, say a murder was committed. A man was sentenced to death. If he is guilty, this is the easy way out! He's dying instead of living with the fact that he took some person's life. That he destroyed someone's family forever. If he's innocent, this man is dying in the place of some horrible person who is likely to murder again!
And the government. If we give a murderer the death penalty, how are we any different? How does the government have immunity? They just took a life; shouldn't they be sentenced as well?
I think that if someone is sentenced, let them do their time. If they're innocent, this gives them another chance. If they're guilty and haven't rehabilitated, and commit the same felony, they go back to jail, possibly for a life sentence.
But that's just my opinion.

But what if they have no remorse for the killing?

Cakepwn He's dying instead of living with the fact that he took some person's life. That he destroyed someone's family forever. I'm going to have to disagree, in most cases. Anyone who would murder another person in the first place probably had little or no compassion in their hearts to begin with. I don't think a whole lot of criminals feel bad about their crimes. It's like the saying goes about the thief who's not the least bit sorry for what he did but who's terribly sorry he's going to jail.

on one hand, people ask 'who really has the right to decide whether one has the right to live or not?'. I do agree with that. but, on the other hand.. some crazed serial killer doesnt have that right either. I agree with it to an extent. I think that certain heinous crimes warrant death of the guilty. look at charles manson. he was a major threat to society and most especially the young and insecure. he spent his whole life inside prison cells from the time he was a juvenille. when finally they let him out, he protested.. he didnt WANT to go back out into the world. but hey, it costs money to keep him there. so they let him go, and the rest is history. people like him, people who kidnap children and molest them, people who kill others and EAT them, etc. those types, I believe should be put to death. it wont bring the innocents that were killed back, but it will stop these nuts from doing it again.. as manson did. he's just a good example. and as far as people wrongfully being put in jail, yeah it happens. but it happens a lot less now with DNA testing. there are people who've been in jail 18 years or more JUST being proven not-guilty (and I hear some are suing over it). with this new technology, there will be less of these instances as the future moves on.

Speaking of which how many years do those horrendus monsters called pedifiles get for commiting those acts? I feel like they don't get as many as they need to. But I can't remember what they get. 25 - life minimum I say, death be an option evil

I don't feel that death is a punishment, therefore I can't really say that I agree with it as one. Think of it this way, if the person dies, how are they paying? They don't feel the pain of death. It's instantaneous. I personally think that these people should be put to work. That's right, I mean forced labor. Controlled forced labor. If a person wants to hurt others, s/he will spend the rest of his/her life making the world a better place. Options include: recycling plants, cleaning up garbage, making food for the hungry, picking up our streets, our lands, clearing out our landfills. Put those suckers to work. Make them pay with their sweat and possibly blood if they hurt themselves. After all, plenty of people in jail kill themselves. Maybe death isn't so bad after all.

well, to me the point of the death penalty isnt just punnishment. it's more removing them from society altogether *depending on the crime*. down here where I live, they make convicted DUI offenders clean the garbage off the streets. when it comes to the death penalty, I'm talkin about the really freaky kinda criminals like jeffrey dahmer, or charles manson, or someone who has repeatedly stolen children away to molest and hurt them. sorry, but I dont think I'd feel very safe seeing them with a sharp poker picking up the garbage off the streets of my neighborhood, not to mention the things you suggested seem to me to be altogether too good for em. now.. if you had said make em work in rock quarries or mining or something... *real* labor... then we'd have something there wink
