hiya. well, i am trying to learn how to be a better sightreader for electric and classical guitar, but i feel as if im not progressing fast enough. i am highly motivated, but just cant seem to get structured enough. is there anyone who can suggest say, 20-30 minute workout routines that i can perform a few times a week that will build and perfect my sightreading? thanks a bunch.
cheers
In my experience, the only advice I can give is: persevere (and it sounds like you're already doing that). Sight-reading doesn't come quickly, but it's worth it when you can do it. Push yourself, but don't push yourself too hard - try sight-reading pieces that you should get the hang of after a while. There's no point in doing basic stuff again and again, but if you start with really complex music, you'll have to do it bar by bar and it'll be a nightmare.
Have you done any grades? Try sight-reading stuff two grades lower than whatever you are, then go for stuff one grade lower when you start to get good.
That's the most helpful I can be.
