"Fans got a taste of some bad medicine in the season finale of “House” with the resignations of Foreman (Omar Epps) and Cameron (Jennifer Morrison), and the firing of Chase (Jesse Spencer).

Rest assured, folks. While the gang may be out of the curmudgeon’s clutches, they are not out of the picture. “Everybody is back--eventually--having changed and in different capacities,” says executive producer Katie Jacobs.

“We struggled with how to do this,” she continued, but “their three-year fellowship naturally comes to an end.” Jacobs then joked, “How many years can you stand working with House?”

On learning of their characters’ “departures,” Morrison said it was like “being called into the principal’s office…. But they were fantastic and let us know what they were planning.”

That plan involves beefing up the cast with the next generation of victims for House to teach and taunt. As announced last week, five new cast members will emerge from the 40 candidates applying for a fellowship with the doped-up doc: Olivia Wilde (“Black Donnellys”), Kal Penn (“Harold and Kumar”), Peter Jacobson (“The Starter Wife”), Anne Dudek (“Big Day”) and Edi Gathegi (“Lincoln Heights”).

But fickle TV viewers are known for resisting change. I asked Omar Epps if he was worried about the shift in dynamics and he said, “We have to take a shot and tantalize fans. It’s still “House”; we have our formula, we’re just spicing it up a bit.”

In the season premiere, “House is alone, Cuddy is angry, and [Wilson] thinks he’s losing his mind.” The newbies appear in the second episode, where House assigns them numbers because he can’t remember their names. When asked how long they would be around (reportedly eight episodes), Jacobs says, “We’ve done deals where the actors could turn into regulars.”

We will play a ‘House’ version of ‘Survivor.’ And we’ll see which candidate will make the best part of House’s new team.”

Jacobs was mum on naming possible guest stars this season, but did offer a tidbit when asked about scoring the post-Super Bowl timeslot. “It’s going to be a two-parter. It is a lot of pressure. Hopefully we won’t do anything wacky, nothing too gimmicky.”

The fourth-season premiere of “House,” which was nominated for four Emmys, including best actor and best drama, airs Tuesday, Sept. 25."

And I bet the fanfiction writers are going to go insane with all the new characters just waiting to be paired up in as many nonsense pairs as possible.

Season 3 better be coming out on DVD before christmas. Thats when I get my House DVD's.
