 Silver eyes blinked open, and tiny jaws split in a wide yawn.
Kivuli shivered in the chilly pre-dawn air. The pridelands beyond his tree home were a vague blue-black blur, silhouetted by the brightening sky beyond. To the west he could still see the stars, but to the east the horizon was already glowing.
The cub grinned and clambered up on chubby legs, his tail whipping behind him. Another day! Finally! He thought night would never end. Sleeping was so boring, and such --
-- a bug crept across the den floor, skittering in jerky movements.
GET IT GET IT GET IT!
With the exuberance of youth Kiv lept and cavorted across the den, towards the exit. Almost... got... it... THERE! -- no, NOW! Wait...
Wet grass tickled his nose and he glanced up, instantly forgetting the harried insect as he took in the vast world before him.

((Just noting for the record that this RP is future-dated, XD and takes place after the RP with Kamilika,))
It was early morning, just before dawn officially started, and Mosi was taking her leave for her morning rounds. She had only just recently started really, but this was the first day she wanted to do the scouting herself, just to refresh her memory and make sure she still knew the place inside and out. She left her lover and (most of) her cubs sound asleep, having gotten well accustomed to expertly detangling from the mass of paws and small bodies. Looking back over the great tree now she smiled a bit, then turned to her direction once more. She'd start at the borders and make her way around the territory, as far as she could go at least. She was currently unaware that her youngest son had gotten up before the sun too. Wouldn't she be in for a surprise?

So big! Kivuli froze and stared in awe at the world spread out in front of him. How would he ever be able to see it all? There was so much, and not enough time in the day.
... but maybe if he started now?
Might as well! Tearing his eyes from the wide open sky, Kiv set his sights on a far-off rock and began his journey. However, it wasn't long before his paw pads began to ache and his stomach began to rumble. Maybe this wasn't such a good idea, after all! Kiv frowned and glanced back towards the tree. Momma probably wouldn't want him out on his own --
-- a dark figure stalked away from his home even as he watched. Momma?
It was! It had to be! ... and technically he wouldn't be alone if he followed her, riiight? Cuz he'd stay near enough to be safe. 'Sides, he could take care of himself!
Confidence restored and empty stomach forgotten, Kivuli padded clumsily after his mother.

They went on like that for perhaps a few feet. She had every reason to think her children would still be asleep long after sunrise, so she paid no mind to the rustling grasses and sure signs that something was moving about behind her.
Well, except for her ears twitching now and then, her senses open. She was completely oblivious for a little while, until she finally seemed to realize that the small noises were definitely following her. Slowing her trek gradually she lifted her head enough to catch a wiff from the breeze coming in from behind, and what she scented caused her brow to quirk curiously. Had she just smelled right? Was that Kivuli?
~... Seems like I've got a stalker this morning.~ The larger lion thought with a smirk before she expertly slipped into the taller grasses. She was going to catch the boy by surprise from behind (and hopefully NOT give him a heart attack in the process).

The great hunter stalked through the high grasses of the savanna. Surely all creatures nearby would flee in fear of him -- IF they knew he was here! Laughter bubbled up, and he quickly quelled it. Mighty hunters never gave themselves away by laughing!
His small black ears were pricked forwards, intent on the spot where he'd last seen his mother. Careful...
Kivuli clambered over a rock in his path and leaped off, his paws spread eagles for a brief moment before impact. With a dull thud he hit the ground and rolled to his feet.
Silence everywhere. The great hunter once again escaped detection.
Grinning, Kivuli continued forwards, oblivious and certain that his mother was unaware of her little shadow.

Mosi had seen this little spectacle and had to resist giving herself away by laughing too. Instead, she continued to carefully creeping up from behind like the experienced huntress she was, Mosi leaned onto the rock that Kivuli had just used for a launching pad, quirking a brow and smirking smoothly as she finally called out.
"Up a little early, aren't we squirt?"

Kivuli quickly slapped a paw over his muzzle to dull the rest of his cry. Mighty hunters never shrieked with fear! They were always prepared for whatever lurked nearby. Always! Pasting on a fierce snarl, the cub pivoted on his back foot and started to leap at the intruder --
-- ... who was his mother? How did SHE find him? She must be a mighty hunter too!
"CANYOUTEACHMEHOWYOUDIDTHAT?" He shrieked, bounding over to her.
