Cheka had been on his own for a long time, not that he cared. Scrounging off the streets suited him just fine, and when caught stealing, which was rare, he would befuddle his capture by throwing riddle after riddle that he always managed to slip off.
As it were this moment, Cheka was devouring an apple he 'found' in the oen market. Living this way had some advantages, it also had its disadvantages as well. His previous gaurdian had basically left him, and with his trust in adults bascially tarnished he avoided being found by his new one. Besides that man look stiffer than a wooden plank...not mcuh fun to be around at all.
Not one to waste, Cheka ate the core and all, crunching through the seeds as if they were bits of candy. It was lucky for him the summer weather proved to be fair. Only having to hide out from stormy weather once or twice. And now he watched, ever waiting for something interesting to happen from the high perch of the tree he was in.

Something interesting was about to. Aekepi was tired of walking all around, and had decided to rest under a tree. The very same tree that Cheka was in. Of course, he didn't SEE the cheshire. What fun would that have been? Instead of looking up or around, or any which way, he closed his eyes, and started to daydream. He'd get moving again fairly soon, but right now, all he wanted to do was relax. He'd been walking for a good three hours or so, on his feet the entire time, trying to find some berries or herbs or something to eat. He was still looking for his fathers, didn't yet know if they had made it, but he was willing to bet that he couldn't go on looking with an empty stomach. After a few moments, he opened his eyes, and plucked a bit of grass, sticking it between his teeth, and chewing to get the water out of the plant. It was a trick he'd learned by watching an animal do it, and it seemed to work. The blade of grass yielded up the sweet water, and he went for another. Completely oblivious to the world around him.

Cheka leaned forward his cat like grace keeping him from tumbling off the branch he was squatted on. His tail flicked slowly back and forth, the older youth below was sucking on grass shoots. How....drole. Stretching he looked about and noticed a little branch covered in leaves close by. Stretching he quietly snapped the twig and then moved ever slightly to perch directly overhead the boy.
Stripping the leaves one by one he let them fall down towards the kid. HIs tail flicked eagerly, as if he hoped the youth would take notice and yet not...he wanted his fun. If anything he could just ..disspear.

Leaves kept hitting Aeka's ear, and he was starting to get annoyed. Flick. Very annoyed. Flickflick. Now this was just plain ridiculous. He sighed explosively, and spit out the grass shoot. So sure was he that there was someone messing with him, he craned his head up into the tree... and saw Cheka. Or rather, saw what looked like a rather large cat that, after a moment, Aeka realized was no cat at all, but a cat-boy. The Cheshire's picture had been hanging around the center, but he didn't know his name. He made an irritated sound deep in his throat, stood, and turned to face the kid.
"Is there a particular reason you're pelting me with leaves?"

Cheka looked down tail lashing back in forth in interest. The weird by below had noticed the leaves he was tossing down his way. He gave a very large toothy smile as he was spoken too.
Instead of replying he stretched himself out laying on the branch his tail still flicking back and forth he hung a hand down teasingly, like a cat teasing a poor dog to try and get him.
"What is your name? How do you spell it?" he asked his tone silky, with a hint of curiousity in it.

He'd heard that one before. Dozens of times. He snickered.
"I. T. Is how you spell It. My name is Aekepi. Yours?"
He backed up a bit to get out of the way of the falling leaves, and peered into the branches, trying to see him better.
"Why don't you come down here and talk with me?"

Cheka frowned he didn't like it when people could guess his riddles that quickly. He flicked his tail again staring down at the cyote boy. He stretched and then swiveled an ear. "What if I like the view better up here? Besides I can talk to you well enough from this vantage point." he said with a tinge of boredom in his tone. It was never fun to have his riddles guessed, most adults were a bit too stupid to get them. It was interesting and yet frusterating at the same time to have someone guess the riddle so quickly. His mind was going through more riddles trying to pick a new one to try out on the kid.
"Name is Cheka..." he introduced himself, since well Aekepi had done the same.

"Cheka, huh?"
The kid was his age. This was good. He had yet to MEET someone that hadn't grown up faster than him. Well, physically anyway.
"C'mon down? I'm not going to hurt you. I like riddles too."
That, and he had.. ehem... 'found'.. some doctor's equipment that he was dying to try out. Not that Cheka would necessarily be a WILLING patient...

He blinked lazily at him. He certianly was pesistant..he stretched in a cat like manner before parts of his body started to dissapear, leaving only his head before it vanished completely. He loved doing that. though it took him a while to do. Though as he moved down the tree, a branch moving or a twig snapping gave away his decent. It annoyed him greatly but it was always neat for him to reappear somewhere else.
He reformed his body leaning his body against the tree, staring at the other boy. He was short, only maybe 4'5", he didn't like being little but there wasn't anything he could do about it.
"Now that I am here...what did you want?"

Akepi was a fair bit taller than this one, but it didn't really matter to him. He'd do as a playmate just as nicely. He smiled at the boy.
"Actually, I was thinking we could explore a bit. I'm always up for a good adventure."
As if to emphasize the point, he wagged his tail lightly. The flame on it danced for a moment or two, but didn't go out.

Dissapointed again by a response at him being able to dissapear he looked a bit cross, but nodded stiffly. "Yah sure.." he stated, as he had nothing better to do, and perhaps this could turn out interesting despite how things had turned out. He did give a raised eyebrow to the flame on the boy's tail. Wondering i it truely burned, or was just for show.
"lead the way I suppose." he trailed off his eyes fixed o the flame.

Aekepi watched Cheka watch his tail. A mischievous grin crept over his lips, and he started waving the tail about as he talked, trying to focus the cat's attention on it. A lot like teasing him with a mouse on a string or a cat-dancer.
"Oh, I dunno...." he said, waving his tail about vaguely to the right. "I suppose we could go this way." He jerked his tail to the left.
This was too much fun!

Shaking his head the Chesire did not like being made a fool of, but he could't help but watch the dancing flame. Every inch in his body tensed as if he was going to pounce it at any moment. But focusing instead of the boys words he forced himself to gaze at his face rather than his tail.
"Either way...make your mind up quickly before i decide i have better things to do..." he trailed off his eyes latching back onto the tail as it moved with more energy. his own tail lashed in eager excitement.

Grinning again, he moved his tail back and forth, back and forth, keeping it always within sight of Cheka.
"I think we should go this way." He pointed right with his tail, and started off in that direction, lashing it, and making the flame dance to and fro.

Cheka followed mainly cause he had nothing better to do. And the fire was interesting. The urge to reach out and touch the flame overwhelming.
"tell me is that an illusion? The fire on your tail?" he asked finally unable to hide his curiosity any longer. The Cheshire cat boy was smiling to himself as his eyes followed the trailing flame. The smile was creepy in its own sort of way, preditorial almost.
