Do you think we lived with our earthly parents and brothers and sisters as a family before we came down to the Earth?

Some say we chose our parents before we came here. Some say we chose our children. And some say we all lived together as on BIG family as Heavenly Father's children.

What do you think? Is the number of children we're supposed to have set before we come to Earth?

Give me your ideas and opinions.

I don't know and I don't really care that much. because no matter who I have as children, I will love them with all my heart. If I didn't choose them in the pre-life. Then I would consider myself very blessed to get to help them in their life and help them to return to Heavenly Father. I don't think it matters if we chose parents or children or even siblings because we are all in this together. And no matter what we should all help each toher.

I basically agree with you. Ultimately, it doesn't really matter. We need to do the best with what we're given. My dad is pretty much a loser. However, I can't let him decide what sort of person I am. I need to do my best and try as hard as possible to be like my Savior and Father in heaven.

yes. even if we have awful parents who smoke (not that im saying anyone's does) and things like that, we still need to try to be like heavenly father.

True! No matter what hand we're dealt in this life, our goal should be to be happy and return to the presence of our Father in heaven worthily. There comes a time when we have to take responsibility for our lives and overcome the obstacles Satan throws at us. We will never be given more than we can handle, even though sometimes it feels like it.

Thanks for your comment!

That reminds me of an expression. "Love the sinner. Hate the sin."
Even if people make not so good choices, we still need to love them. I have tons of non-member friends who don't really agree with all my standards and choose another way. But we are pretty tight because we respect each other.

That's really cool. It is important, like you said, to love the person. Ultimately, that is the best way to share the Gospel; with unconditional love like the Savior has. That is the best example we can set!

well it's not really sure but in my mother patrical blessing it said that she chose my dad but did i pick her as my mother or were we already..... they say that there are such thing as soul mates (those would be mates before we came here) but it's not always like that some of us didn't pick our mtes yet soo this question would be diffrent to diffrent people

I don't think that the "Family" as it is now existed because we were all brothers and sisters, children of our Heavenly Father, but we might have chosen things like Chibi's mom did. What I do believe is that we chose our trials, we chose our families, so that we were in the best situation for our personality so we could grow. I gave a lesson and their is no such thing as a "soul mate" we look for the right kind, not the right one person. If not no one would ever re-marry or fall in love again.

I'm not sure about the soul mate concept. I believe it is possible that we might have someone that is "best" for us. I also don't know that we chose all of our trials. I think it is possible that we chose some. I also believe some of our trials come from poor decisions that we made here. I don't think we knew what mistakes we were going to make here before we came.

When you think about our pre-earth life, how do you picture all of us? Do you think we were children, adults or, dare I say, teenagers?

How do you think we were taught? In classes, FHE, or some other way?

Do you think we laughed, cried, both or neither?

And what of the war in heaven. Do you think we actually went to battle, or what?

Any ideas, opinions or educated guesses are more than welcome! cool

Ooooooh! I love this conversation! Thinking is what I do a lot an this is something that has wandered through my mind every now and then.

First: Family. I don't know if we lived as a family or if we chose our family. All I know is that our family is our family and it's the only one we got. I don't get along with anyone in my family except my mom. But now I'm trying to be civil about it. I don't want to fight anymore. I don't want to make fun of my siblings. So now I'm having civil conversations with my family with no contention on my end. I may not like them at the worst of times but that doesn't mean that I hate them. I'd fight for them, I'd missed them if one of them passed away, I'd be there for them if they needed me. After all, we only have one life to live. I shouldn't spend it hating my family.

Second: Friends. I love that quote "Love the sinner, Hate the sin." When I look at the people around me, I don't see them for what they do (as the world does), I see them for who they are (as Heavenly Father does). These are my brothers and sisters. We are all sons and daughters of God. It's not in me to judge people for what they do. I just try and help them become who they are meant to be. How can I judge someone when I myself am imperfect? I love everyone, no matter who they are, no matter what they've done.

Three: Trials. I once gave a lesson on this. We fought in the war in Heaven. Saying that, we chose this life. So if those two statements are true, wouldn't it also be true that we chose to face the trials that we'd be given? I must have known the difficulties that I'd face in this life, and yet I still chose to live it. And seeing me now as opposed to what I could have become, I'd have it no other way. We are given trials so that we become stronger. We are given trials that we can handle. I accept my trials because I know that it will help me in the long run. Although I may wonder why I had to go through it, later on in life as I have climbed furthur up the hill towards my Heavenly Father, I'll be able to look back and see how far I've come and why I had to walk that path.

As for the war in Heaven, I'm not sure what we did. I'm not even entirely sure that the war is one that we imagine it to be. We are taught that we fought for our agency. At first when I heard this I thought that we had used swords and shields. But what if that wasn't it at all? What if we just had debates? I can't really see myself using physical violence in Heaven. I'm a firm believer that we should always try and solve our problems with our words rather than our fists. I can see a war of words better than a war of swords. But then again that's just my opinion.

How we spent our time? I'd like to think that I spent my time watching over all my friends while they were on Earth. Cheering for all the righteous decisions and sobbing over their sins. That's all I can really say about that.

Those are great ideas! I can tell that you like to think and have spent some time thinking on these things!

I agree that the war in heaven was not physical. That makes no sense that we were bashing each other with clubs, shields, swords or whiffle bats. I'm sure it was something else. I believe the term war is used figuratively to describe a basic difference in opinion. Satan believed one thing and the Savior believed something else and everyone took sides. We chose to be with our Savior, who was also with our Father in Heaven.

As far as family goes, I don't necessarily feel the way that most do on this subject. I certainly don't believe the families we have here existed in Heaven. Based partly on that, I also believe we have no more obligation to love our families here than we do to love our neighbor. I believe True Family is based more on mutual love and respect than it is by flesh and blood. There is a book called Illusions which states what I just said and then goes on to say that rarely are two members of the same family born under the same roof! I certainly agree with that.

I agree with you completely that we are given trials to help make us stronger. I don't believe we chose all our trials before we came here. Perhaps we chose some. However, I think a large portion of our trials come from our own mistakes. I don't think we were shown what mistakes we are going to make before we came here. I love what you said about growing and then looking back. You said

Quote:
Although I may wonder why I had to go through it, later on in life as I have climbed furthur up the hill towards my Heavenly Father, I'll be able to look back and see how far I've come and why I had to walk that path.

That was really well put. I certainly hope to grow and learn. I have so much to learn. I want to be able to look back and see growth. I hope to continue to grow, mature and learn my entire life.

You have alot of great ideas! wink

It is fun to imagine what our pre-earth life was like. I imagine it is pretty tough for us to get a real clear idea on how it was. But I believe it was nice, fun, pleasant and certainly we were being taught alot.
