The Spring Wind Arrives... The winds blow free at Shinsen-kan, the land of trials and old. The people here are happy, abundant, and satisfied with life. Year-round the sun shines overhead and the moon will glide about, but never has there once been a single drop of snow. This is the beauty of Shinsen-kan, the place where spring winds always roam free.
But don't be fooled, Shinsen-kan is not a place where one should take their freedoms for granted. Hard work and toiling efforts wring this land into a flourishing community where everyone is expected to do their part. While it is very seldom that you hear of one being punished for acts of laziness or disregard for efforts, when it happens the tides come swift in harsh in the relentless peril it so provides. Because of this there are few still alive that disregard their efforts by any means and almost everyone in the community has a job that is required of them. Some are guards that station themselves around the streets and towers to keep the work in line while others are field workers who toil from dawn till dusk.
But there are others who have no meaning, no job to provide, and those are the ones who are truly free. No work, no restriction, no money. These are the people of the slums, the ones which must steal from all, sleep with strangers, and even kill to survive. It is very seldom that they are able to slip through the fingers of the guards, but every so often a few will pass through and find their way into the beauty that is the spring wind.
To be a slave of the community or the filth of the world, it is for you to decide. A small explanation Ah, such a beautiful day here in Gaia! The Von Helsons are aloft with their meager plots and the Gambino mansion seems to be in a bit of trouble, but lets not forget about the rest of the world! After all, we are a roleplaying community, and being thus we're a bit more off-helter than the rest of the people in reality. We see things in a different way, believe that stuffed kittens can talk and that green rabbits will turn us into zombies. WHAT FOOLISHNESS I SAY!!! But hey... who am I to judge? After all, this is where you come in.
Feudal Japan, we're all experts about it aren't we? We name ourselves after characters that sound Japanese-ish, such names as Hiroboshi ((which likely doesn't mean anything)), Harimitsu, and all that other kinda hibidi da. Well... let's face facts, I don't know anymore about feudal Japan than I do about laundry detergent, it is a simple fact of life! And while there may be an expert or two around that could prove me wrong ((which would be rather nice actually)) I doubt that any of you know about the flourishing history of how Japan evolved into the form that it is today. Now... with that said let's continue to the true plot, eh?
You are the people of Gaia who are cut off from the rest of the world far, far south from where Barton Town stands. In fact, you are so far south that were you to look at the Gaia map you wouldn't be able to see yourself plotted on the map. This "undiscovered" area is where our story begins, and like all other stories that develop and grow, the purpose is vague and seemingly unclear until the story takes form into cognitive reality.
It is up to you, the rpers, to give this story meaning, the crazy people from down south far beyond our map's boarders. Where it goes from here? Only you should know.

Our daily lives Our characters are all expected to do something for work in this rp. Your job can vary widely, anywhere from a thief to an adviser for the emperor/shogun/whatever I feel like calling it. And keep in mind, I pity no foo' for disregarding their own reality! You are more than welcome to shirk on your responsibility, to quit your job or to even run away from Shinsen-kan! But to keep true to the first post, the leader of this place will punish those who do not fufill their duties, though they'd likely punish something like a thief or a hooker anyways. The point is... If you need somewhere to start, do so at your job!
Think of it as a rather large city with a rather great potential for expansion. There will be people who need to run inns, taverns, general stores and even those who weigh intakes of food. Of course there won't be anything like a gun shop or a gadget store, we're too dumb for such things! But alas, there is one thing that can differ...
Every so often a wanderer or salesman of some sort may wander in. He could bring in, say, a watch or a cell phone, some sort of mystical power device that the people have never seen! Well this is allowed, after all us Gaians aren't completely out there! Such things as lighters and hot water heaters may not be where we're from, but sure enough they could be "discovered" by foreigners. Of course any guns or beam sabers etc. etc. are going to be out of reach for the townsfolk, the guards seem very wary about such things entering their township and wouldn't want to provoke our people to "revolt".
Though I heard a spot for revolutionist has just opened up... *glances around nervously*

The laws of physics Once an object is put into motion, it stays in motion until acted upon by an outside force. Yes, that dreaded gravity just pulls our spirits down ever so expertly! For you see, the things you see in anime, in movies, well they do not apply here. We cannot dodge bullets, we cannot jump over barn yards, and we cannot do amazing acrobatic stunts without lots of practice and a pretty good chance of being laughed at by the end! For you see, this is reality, and nothing in reality is like it is in the movies. In reality we get tired, we get hungry, we do stupid things. While I hope that you don't create the perfect character, I also hope that your character isn't imperfect. I want to see a good balance in what is portrayed, such as a weak, but agile performer or a strong, but slow construction worker. Your quirks can be in your personality and such things as OCD, ADD, and all those other things can be a part of who you are.
Hell, you can even be deathly afraid of needles!
The point is, while I know none of you will create a superman, I hope that each of you will hold your own kryptonite.

The Town Crier Ah, an area for announcements, activities, areas, and other spots of interest. If you have something that you'd like me to add to the list, simply send me a shout on the pms and we'll work something out. If we actually get a story out of all of this, we'll wrap up a pretty little bow for you and place your events in the Town Crier!
Criminals and shirkers beware! For any who are found in the Town Crier are subject to be turned in for rewards! It can range anywhere from a small plot of land to actual Gaia gold! ((Yes, I will actually trade you gold if you go along with it.)) So lets make this interesting and keep a few people on the list!

Ah, the Spring Wind... As beautiful as Shensen-kan is, it is not the only place that you are restricted to. While at the beginning one will only see the city walls, there will also be places to explore later on. Throw in suggestions as to where you'd like to go, what you'd like to experience, there's actually a really, really cool place I'm going to open up later on that will give the rp that my own character will strive to go to. You may create your own ideas of where you want to go, where you want to travel, where you want to be. The sky is truly the limit on how your character will be formed, but if you need some motivation keep this in mind.
This city is huge, there will be a vast difference in people and opinion. The only thing that keeps us all unified is the thought of being prosperous. However, this definition of "prosperous" may vary greatly. One could say the word is a widespread thing, where everything is for the greater good while others think of it in a more selfish way, thinking that providing oneself with entertainment and satisfaction is the best way to go.
Fights will happen.
It might be a sword fight, it might be a fist fight, but no matter what there will be disputes that can't be solved with words alone. You may want to take part in this even if you aren't involved, depending on how your character might feel. But be warned, getting involved will mean that you have a chance to be put on the wanted list and then people will hunt you down for rewards. So be very wary of the path you may so choose to follow.

Some of the townsfolk Its a bum! It's a plebian! NO, ITS AN RPER!!! Alas, the long awaited "profile" section is finally on way! Here, you get to stare mindlessly at a lot of stats that really mean nothing to you since we're all only going to look at this part once before moving on. Being thus, I don't want anyone to spend an insane amount of time into showing off just how great their characters are. After all... this is an rp, these character's daily lives! How would you feel if somebody summerized your life in about a paragraph or two?
"Hot, sweaty, lazy nerd that makes people read exceedingly long profiles that reveals any interesting aspects that one might reveal later on!"
Yeah... how's that feel? Like garlic shrimp and chicken coming up after a chocolate shake I'd imagine! But that's all for fun n' games! Let's get to the point, shall we? Profile Screen Name: Character Name: Age: Gender: Place in Society: Appearance: Special Skills: Weaknesses: ((will take off after accepting)) Now most of this is self explanatory! Names, Age, Gender, how hot your bod is, but the major thing that I imagine needs to be explained is the topic of Special Skills. This doesn't mean that you can shoot energy from your crotch or use toothpicks to slice open large holes in walls, but rather what specifically your character specializes in. This will typically determine what sort of job you have and what role you play in the city.
Say that you are a thief. Well thieves typically wear light garments and have swift hands. This is not to say that you are big or small, but it means that you are rather well at stealing things without being noticed. They may also be good liars, excellent hiders, and so on and so forth. The main reason why I put this "Special Skills" section up is to remind people of what lifestyle their characters. I believe it will help you form your creation into a more realistic being and that you will rather enjoy playing off these special patterns while communing with others.
Now weaknesses, these can be ever fun! I played a man once you see, and he was considered the most powerful player in the rp. But get this, he was shot eight on eight separate occasions, beaten to a pulp, had his arm blasted off ((by his own gun)), almost bled to death twice, and even had a fear of needles that extended so great that when he was pricked with one he went insane and started to get hard flashbacks that made him believe strangers were members of his dead family!
What made him so powerful you may ask? The fact that he could overcome his weakness is what made him strong. He worked around it, made it his own, and so shall you these passing days. Create interesting weaknesses and characters that make mistakes so that when you overcome the burden of a seemingly hopeless situation you will be all the more "bad a**" for it.
And that, as they say, is that.

(Yay! First post!)
Sorako slipped through the bustling crowd of the marketplace. People were going about their business as usual, boring and safe. But her life wasn’t like that. It was full of exciting prospects, running, hiding, and being caught. Okay, maybe it wasn’t that great, but it was decent enough for her abilities. At least she wasn’t some mindless freak. Speaking of mindless freaks… Sorako, more widely know as Sora the Sneak (Okay, maybe not, but she liked to call herself that), slipped her hand into the pocket of one mindless freak, pulling her prize of three copper coins. Not much, but it would get her breakfast. She went along, slipping her hand in open pockets, pockets that deserved to be stolen from because they didn’t keep their money safe. She got two more copper coins after that and got lucky; she pulled a silver one from the pocket of an unsuspecting guard. When were they going to learn? Sora made her way into the slums, having hidden her wares for the day in a safe spot that wasn’t accessible to anyone but her self.
(Enter someone else.) ((Is that an okay first post? Is there anything I can change so you have more to work off of?))

The city walls towered high overhead, a common reminder that the outside world was a very vague and likely disturbing place. Koki knew this better than anyone, for he lived his entire life behind these protective barriers, standing tall for all it represented. Safety, solitude, peace... All of this was an important aspect of living here in Shinsen-kan, where the wonderful breeze of the spring winds always flowed. The buildings were magnificent in their own sense, paying tribute to the wooden fibers and oaken barriers of the nearby forest. The buildings themselves actually rose a bit higher than the city walls in fact... but to Koki everything was large and magnificent. There were even some children who could stand over him, but regardless not a lot of people struck out at him or insulted him, for it wasn't a society to degrade others less they were part of the lower society.
Much like the lass who just passed him. Did he feel a slight tickle in his pouch? The slumlords must not be taking as much of a reign on these saps as he thought, they typically kept them pretty neat and tidy within their own little area. No matter... even those who knew no better than the filth they bathed in deserved some fresh air every now and again.
"If they would only contribute more..." He muttered to himself silently as he plunged his fingertips into the pouch at his side, suddenly realizing that the few wages he earned were suddenly gone. For a moment he thought he may have dropped it or perhaps he tore a hole in his container, but then he remembered the young lass that passed by not too long ago. Oh what a fool he was! At that moment he took a deep breath or two to calm himself before trying to recall her face or how she looked, but couldn't seem to remember anything off the top of his head. Shaking his head, he decided to abandon his post for a moment or two to head in the direction he assumed she went in. The marketplace was a rather busy place and a hard one to navigate around, it wasn't very likely that he'd find her, but the logical thing was to think she was either going to a shop for some chow or back to the slums.
He'd rock up to the food areas for a bit to see if he could find any sign of her, thinking he could catch a glimpse of her there, but would soon consider asking around for any further help on finding her.

Sora was chatting it up with a street vendor owner, who just handed her a pocket stufffed with meaty goodness. It was the cheapest food in this area, and it was good. Couldn't get much better than that.
"Any news underground?" The woman was an insider, she gave news of new laws to the people in the slums, in exchange for things.
"Ah, my good woman, the only thing around here that talks is money." The woman grumbled a bit and handed Sora back her copper coin. The theif smiled and leaned in closer to not be overheard.
"News is that there will be a small break in over at the castle. Best theives only. I'm not included, but their missing out." The woman curled her lip disdainfully and held her hand out for the copper coin.
"That wasn't news, you good-for-nothing. Everyone knows that had been planned for weeks." Sora drew herself up.
"Yes, but no one knows what they were going to steal! Now that will cost you another coin." The woman swiped at her and the small theif ducked off, weaving through the crowd, shoving the last of the pocket into her mouth.
