Large, unnaturally sized paws steppped, strangely lightly, onto the ground. Y'know, just because your huge, doesn't mean you gotta step like you had bricks on your paws. But mostly, he was being carefull because he was contemplating something; a snack.
A young gazelle was trotting contently with her foal. Both weren't quite a nice meal; they were to small, puny for the lion. They would be a mere snack.. No, not worth the energy. Maybe when he was really hungry, he could go knock down a bufallo. So he stood full height, enough to, even from feet away, to startle the gazelle into a mad dash. His striped tail flickered lazly over the ground, orange eyes following the herbivore with a lack of interest, even when the youngest fell onto the ground, usually a good thing for a predator.
He yawned, unamused, and continued to move through the grass, allowing his paws to land more heavly onto the ground, like he usually walked. Muscles rippled under his red, black and white fur, and sharp claws hid in his pads, waiting for a moment in which they might come to use again. A small sneer at a butterfly that had almost landed on his nose revealed sharp, pearly white teeth. This was a killing machine; though lately it hadn't killed so much.
Ahali'Bagawa mused quietly to himself. A former firekin, like himself, he'd thrown off a cliff. He hadn't wanted it to happen; he liked to finish things himself.

Much smaller paws lay stretched out in the sun, pink pads up. Asherah had killed a gazelle not far from where she lay the day before and left the remains to the scavengers - she'd eaten her fill. Hunger content and well rested, now she was just dozily enjoying the sun. Her black fur warmed through, she was hidden, she had directions to follow. She wasn't lost!
Everything was perfect. She'd even shook of the hopeful males who'd followed her hoping for a 'pretty little lady' of their own - jerks. All she had to do was knead her claws in and out and purr softly to herself.
Until she heard something big moving nearby and the wind brought her the scent of another sodding male. She rolled over so she was on her belly. Stealth time. Asherah'd try to creep away before she ran. She was fantastic when it came to speed and agility but stamina was her downfall.

Trained ears twitched at the sound of a slight swishing noise, barely audible to him. But he had learned not to understimate slight sounds, not pattering like those of mice-paws or flaps of birds wings.
So the large lion moved in a circule, ears perked to listen to whatever it was, constantly on the move to focus anywhere else. There were no more sounds, however. He started to close the circule a bit, scenting the air. A faint scent, aswell. Hidden, perhaps?
He snorted loudly.

Backing away, she kept her eyes on the massive lion. The long grass wasn't making her job easy, and it gave a soft rustle despite her best efforts. The wind was still and it was as silent as you'll ever get on a savannah - perfect for relaxing but hell if you're trying to make an escape. Asherah didn't know Ahali was trouble but she'd learned not to be too trusting in the 'Lostlands'. It could get you killed.
The problem was the small gazelle wasn't the only thing that lived nearby. A buck of some other kind suddenly shot off from near Asherah. Damn! She'd been focusing too much of the lion to watch out for random prey that'd get scared and flushed out.
Either the big lion'd think that the buck had been what had been moving or it'd just given away Asherah's position.

Ears flicked in the direction of the stag, and claws pierced the ground. He growled to himself. It was a buck. just a buck? Maybe. Ahali had been ambushed before, and usually, runaway prey was what gave things away. Maybe this was the case. So he lowered his body into a prowl, close to the ground, wich was rather annoying when you were large, and moved. The scent became more obvious, and it wasn't preybeast. They never smelled a bit like blood. Asherah's give-away was her latest meal.
"I know you're there. " He growled, orange eyes scanning the grass. Slowly landing upon a slightly darker spot, and he snarled.

From her sensible, normal self, Asherah changed abrubtly. Her fear made her freeze when he spoke - then as usual she snapped - and it turned to anger. Why was she being hunted like just another prey animal? She had a right to be here. This was rogueland, there had been no musk markers - so he didn't own it. It wasn't her time anymore, so it wasn't just another lustful moron. And there were plenty of gazelle and that stupid buck if he was hungry.
She stood up fully, rising out of the grass, with a low growl in her throat and no sense behind the cold fury she felt. Her tail lashed from side to side and she took another step back. Let him try something! She had claws and fangs too.

A female. This wasn't an ambush, but now the female looked ready to fight aswell, and Ahali.. Quite frankly, wasn't one to apologize. So he stood his height too, towering over the female, a loud growl rumbling in his throat. A mouse, who had been hidden in the grass, froze in panic for a moment, then shot off.
He moved to the side quietly, hunding his borad shoulders over his head, claws unseathed. If the female really wanted to go on; so be it. He had strenght and skill on his side, while, on the other hand, this one looked rather slim.

Another step back...and a few to the side, into the traditional circle that was walked before a fight. Her bright eyes searched for openings and tried to figure out his weaknesses. This stranger was huge and obviously strong, and not stupid. Typical brutes had never heard her before. Else she'd have been ripped apart long ago by hyenas.
She was smaller and so, harder to hit. And Asherah would bet her life on being faster and more agile - was betting it in fact. she was just so angery! That rage would lend her some strength atleast.

No one looked like they'd make the first move. He knew better than to make it himself, first moves where always too easy to dodge. So instead, he stopped, giving obvious signs of attack, and lunged, claws extended, but when he landed, it hadn't been a real move, but he was much closer to the lioness, claws in the ground and the fur on his mane that went along his spine prickled, lips pulled back in a snarl.
Now all he had to do was wait.

Ash had changed her stance, to get better balance, when she saw the big lion pounce forward. One paw raised and jaws open with a snarl. Ready to receive and rebuff or the attack that next fell. When she realised, she mearly moved to the side and back.
"Come then. I'm not attacking first. You're the agressor here, after all."

"You've got your mind boggled up, then. " Ahali smirked, quirking a brown. "I wasn't the one sneaking around, looking like I wanted to make an ambush. "
But, if she insisted; now he was much closer. He waited till a hind paw of hers was lifted in the process of moving back, and launched his body at her, so that he impulse would be a bit messed up without a supporting hind paw. He didn't, however, use his claws yet, this was rather a slam; attempting to slam against her with his shoulder.

Instinct made her slam the paw back down and dig her claws into the ground as he flew towards her. To go down against such a big opponent was death - it was likely she wouldn't be able to stand again. But that wasn't to say she wasn't dazed for a second when he slammed into her.
The front paw she'd raised came down as he did, attempting to make sure he paid for stunning her for a second. It also helped her regain her balance, knocked up on two legs instead of four.

The lion did feel shar claws pierce the skin on his other shoulder, but he could use that, yes. The lion used her own grip on him to roll, pulling her under. If she didn't let go quickly, he'd soon have her pinned on the ground, and even then..
Well, lets just say her shoulder might get a little sore; it was, after all, a strong yank.

As they rolled, she brought up her back legs to scrabble down his front. She'd claw his guts out! But it became apparent she needed to get out of this 'embrace', as he was stronger by far. Her shoulder pained her in protest as she lithely twisting away. She need to regroup and regain her feet.
"Why did you hunt me?!"

"I didn't. " He chuckled. But he had his hold on her now, and though her claws were going into his front, that was covered by thick mane. It hurt more the way she pulled out furs right there. It was good to be a male!
He shifted, placing a large paw on her shoulderblade and sinking his claws in as deep as he could for a moment, shifting to use his hind paws and try step on her own, to make a pin harder to get away from, before she got to her feet. But he still mused himself with the hold on her should, keeping his claws there and slowly dragging it down. Either way, it'd hurt if she pulled away aswell.
"You were just dumb enough to sneak around. This is roguelands, lady. Sneak around? then you're a threat. "
