I have a theory that everyone has somethign that inspires them when it comes to writing. List yours here!

I personally usually listen to music when I'm striving to write at my best. But it can't be any music, I have what I call mojo music comprised of mojo songs. I have mojo songs from Evanescence, Within Temptation, Breaking Benjamin, Nickleback, Linkin park & more. Different songs work for different scenes I'm trying to compose in a literal sense. 'So Cold' by Breaking Benjamin, for instance, is my favorite to listen to whenever I'm writing a battle scene. It never fails me. 3nodding I cowrite a lot with a friend of mine and she can always tell when I'm listening to to my mojo music biggrin . Yes I am a dork.

I draw alot of inspiration from this song http://youtube.com/watch?v=e7y4YeZnkxo if you pay attention to the video you can see Edgar Allen Poe refrences. I also like to write upbeat poems and cadances becuase im pretty bored of all the gothic/emo writing out there.

You write poetry? I bow to you. Lol, I love poetry but I can't compose a good one to save my life.

I get inspiration from different music as well.

One story (that died with my Mac, sadly), was set in modern times, but the characters were in a castle that seemed to be stuck in older eras... I listened to a lot of Malice Mizer and Moi Dix Mois for inspiration.

I can't listen to music AS I write though. My brain can't function correctly if there's too much noise.

Like right now, my boyfriend is playing a video game with the volume up fairly loud, so it's hard for me to form a proper sentence or keep what I'm wanting to type in my head... So, what I just typed may be very incorrect and may not make much sense. ^^;

Sadly, but honestly, my usual muse is my own depression. I have some amazing thoughts whilst depressed. This does of course, put a bit of a damper on my writing style as it's hard to write good stuff about love if you're feeling down. I stopped taking my meds to keep my creativity alive, but I haven't been depressed much lately, so it's harder to write. I also do really when I'm utterly exhausted. I like those, too.

Even though it sounds really really odd. I get my inspiration from video games. No, I do not see something that I like. And steal it, trying to pass it off as my own work.

Its weird, because usually gamers are stereotyped as mindless people who sit in front of a TV or computer monitor for hours on end. But when I'm playing a game, my mind wanders a lot. And I find myself pausing it to come to my computer to type something.

Like the other night, I was playing Gradius III for the SNES. And I got an inspiration for the 'Lost Loves' thread thing I made.

My muse is mainly music. I have a playlist for every character i've created and one just for the city i made up. I also get it from movies, like how people look or talk, and from books, the wording for scenes and how to describe people. I always play music when I write. I write best to classical music. I know it's a good night when I've been writing for a playlist length, minimum 45 mins, and I suddenly realize it and read it over. I'm usually blown away.

Classical Music.

It helps me put themes to story ideas I come up with.

I have several muses, one being music composed by JRock bands (these days either Moi dix Mois or Dir en grey seem to influence me most depending on what I am writing). However, I believe that my greatest muse happens to be the thoughts that have infiltrated my mind late during the evening recently caused by my current literary addiction: Oscar Wilde. I also like to think that art has, in some way, influenced my writing... I sometimes tend to find it easier to write something when I sketch out the appearences of the characters or settings.

I like to write at night, when everything is nice and quiet and no one can bother me. Unfortunately, this often leads to a lack of material, considering I am diurnal.

I'm actually only semi-surprised by all the people who express that music is their muse. Not only is it great for listening to, but it's also a great medium for when trying to just, as my favorite English professor put it, "throw up on paper."

I definitely would have to agree that music is my muse. I keep all of my information for the book(s) I'm writing on my little USB port (which I fondly refer to as my "stick"), and that includes a little Notepad collaboration of each song that inspires each of my characters or some of the scenes that I'm writing. I think the one that is inspiring me the most currently is "It's Not Over" by Chris Daughtry.

My other muse is perhaps my most favorite muse, and that is my friends. They help inspire the quirks and personalities of each of my characters, as I develop their personas from 3-D to 2-D. It helps change the scenes of my book from dramatic to cheerful, or from happy-go-lucky to dreary. Most certainly my friends will be going into the dedication.

I've done that before blaugh . My friends and I are such spazes I've twisted a few things either they've done or I've done to work in whatever I would be writing at the time.
