It was a sad fact of life that many students of Gildhorn Highschool felt musically and theatrically inclined.

Generally, that would be considered a good thing. What could be a more wonderful use of energy? Prancing around the stage and singing with all of their darling, precious hearts... What prodigious goals these students had. How perseverant they were in attaining those goals! It would do any parent or teacher proud.

...

Except Ms. Iris Rosaline Winthrop.

You see, the fact of the matter was that although many students felt theatrically and musically inclined, a very sparse amount were what you would call theatrically and musically "gifted," and so Ms. Winthrop often found that she was a bit edgy when the Spring Musical tryouts rolled around. After all, she was the director.

It was with a heavy heart that the grey-haired, bespectacled, squat old lady entered the theater that fateful day. She carried a stack of completed audition forms in one arm, contained in a manilla envelope. In the other, she held her handy blue coffee mug. No doubt she would need that extra boost of energy.

As she made her way down the aisle towards the table that had been erected in front of the stage for her (as it was every year), she grumbled inaudibly about "too much stuff to carry around" and how no aspiring actor was jumping up to help her. Then she mumbled a little more audibly that she would probably appreciate an aspiring actor's singing voice more if he or she were to kindly offer to take her mug. Well wha'do'ya know? Suddenly fifteen boys and girls sprang to her side and snatched both the coffee mug and the manilla envelope, setting them down on the table for her. She smiled a sickly-sweet smile and, with a dramatic sigh, sunk into the hard metal chair set out for her. She appraised her little helpers and then sent them back into the line that had formed along the wall of the theater.

She took a slow sip of her coffee, ignoring the many sets of eyes watching her anxiously, and then let loose another sigh. The students shrunk back as if this particular noise of hers was caused by some blunder of their own that they would soon be reprimanded for. Ms. Winthrop stood up and addressed them all.

"Welcome, young actors and actresses, to the Spring Musical Tryouts!" she announced, her arms held out as if presenting something very exciting, however, that spark of excitement did not seem to reach her own eyes. Actually, she was thinking, Oh joy...here we go again...

"Now as you well know, this year's musical is 'City Dreams' by Vladamir Mufoline. It is about a young girl and her brother that have dreams of becoming leading stars on Broadway as a double act together. You should be able to relate to this pair quite well because...hopefully you have your own dreams to do with the theater..." Under her breath, she added, "The question is whether you'll actually take those dreams anywhere, which I seriously doubt..."

After this moment's lapse, she cleared her throat and ambled on with her little speech. "Now, you were instructed to prepare one song to sing for me...just one song, and it doesn't have to be from the play. That grew...slightly tedious...last year..." Yes, at least she had dodged that bullet. "...and I shall now give you ten minutes to practice your song, as well as mingle with each other as you so obviously enjoy doing." She scrunched up her nose, reveling in the fact that children could ever have the ability to talk quite so much. Good lord.

"So...carry on! We begin in exactly ten minutes!"

And after that...the disaster would start to occur. Like it occurred every year.
~~~
Okay guys! Sounds fun, right? This should turn into something like the auditions in High School Musical. Basically, most of your characters should be not very talented at all...
Here's what I want.
-A couple of talented people. Only a couple.
-Some really shy people that will regret coming and will probably choke on stage.
-Just...strange people. Be creative.
-Only dancers. Can't sing. Either only dance, or attempt to sing and find that you are horrible at it.
-People who think they are amazing and really aren't.
-Just people who suck...period.
Before the start of the RP in your first post, please put this form about your character, completed:
Name:
Year in HS:
Personality:
Appearance:
Do you have experience with acting and are you "good" at it?:
Dancing?:
Singing?:
More about you?:
Does your character like Ms. Winthrop?:
For now, RP arriving, standing in line, reacting to Ms. Winthrop, and interact with your peers! Just RP with the other people trying out, really. Fun, fun, fun! Get posting. ^_^
edit: OK, guys. Maybe you didn't understand me. Your forms should be posted WITH your first post. As in, put the form IN your post. From this point on...please adhere to that. Mmmkay? Let's get this party started! Ms. Winthrop is ready to critique. XD
Here, I'll post my "form" as an example to all of you. XP
Name: Iris Rosaline Winthrop
Year in HS: She's middle aged, silly goose!
Personality: Iris is pompous, dramatic, and a bit of a control freak. She likes to have her way, and is quite used to getting it. Her students are a bit frightened of her, to be honest. And those that aren't think she is rather strange and unpredictable. When she was younger she had a short burst of fame, and this has left her thinking, even in her old age, that she is quite the cat's meow. She is very critical of young performers, and certainly does not hold back during the Spring Musical Auditions.
Appearance: She is grey-haired, bespectacled and squat. Her eyes are a kind of glassy green color, and she always wears leopard print glasses with beaded strings to put them around her neck. The glasses make her look rather like an owl at times.
Iris used to be quite beautiful as a girl...but her good looks have left her as her age increased. She might not appreciate someone telling her that, though...or mentioning her age. And her puppeteer is not even going to tell you that. razz
Do you have experience with acting and are you "good" at it?: In that short burst of fame when she was younger, she was considered very good at it. She was such the drama queen that it seemed you had to call her a "good actress."
Dancing?: Ballet mostly in her earlier years. It never was a big part of her career.
Singing?: Very operatic. She likes everything to be rather...big.
More about you?: She loves coffee, order, and having loads of little actor and actress minions. She also loves people that prepare for auditions and don't crack her eardrums with their unbearable voices.
Ahem.
Does your character like Ms. Winthrop?: Are you quite alright? My character IS Ms. Winthrop, thank you very much! *adjusts glasses indignantly*
There we go! And also, I had forgotten to add "appearance" to the form! For those of you who have already posted, please add APPEARANCE to your form as I have. Thank you. <3
Name: Savine Denwell
Year in HS: Sophomore
Personality: Dedicated to studies. Shy around new people and crowds, but friendly. Gets flustered easily when insulted or criticized.
Do you have experience with acting and are you "good" at it?: Only experience from childhood plays. Not incredible, but still good.
Dancing?: Not great, but passable.
Singing? : Exceptionally well
More about you? : Has spent most of her time devoted to studies. She rarely sings in front of others outside her family, afraid of possible criticism. She has had periodic dreams of stardom, but they are quickly dismissed. She doesn't think very highly of herself and just tries to get by in school to make her family proud of her.
Does your character like Ms. Winthrop? : Has not known her enough to have that opinion.
Appearance:Like my current avatar
----------
Savine raced through the halls toward the auditorium. She had been caught up studying in the library and lost track of time. She was already 5 minutes later than she wanted to be. She only prayed she was not too late for the auditions at all.
By the time she reached the auditorium and entered, Ms. Winthrope was already there. She noticed the students were mingling with eachother at the time and wondered if she was on time after all, since noone seemed to be doing anything else. She took a seat in the back quietly, deciding to stay silent for the moment and watch to see just what was going on.
Name: Gina Sayasaki
Year in HS: Junior
Personality: Shy, but a really great friend once she gets to know you, suffers from a lack of confidence due to her three older brothers.
Do you have experience with acting and are you "good" at it?: Pretty good though she's convinced she isn't.
Dancing?: very good
Singing?: very good, but thinks she sucks at everything.
More about you?: Her brothers tease her and torment her, though she is really loyal to her friends. Even though her brothers like to basically torture her, she has problems when it comes to a social life because her last boyfriend dumped her for her best friend(Who she forgave immediatly) and turned up in the hospital a week later, basically he was beaten to a pulp by her brothers.
Does your character like Ms. Winthrop?: People like to tease her by calling her teacher's pet, she shrugs it off, I mean why not, she just likes to help. So I guess yes.
Name: Ella Vampira
Year in HS: Freshman
Personality: It depends on her mood.
Do you have experience with acting and are you "good" at it?: She has actually had a lot of experience, thanks to her getting the lead character for two years straight in middle school. And according to her past drama and music teachers she is really good.
Dancing?: Exceptionally well.
Singing?: Near perfect.
More about you?: No one else exept for Ella could actually sing in her family. So she didn't get that much support for that, but acting was a whole 'nother story. Many people in her family could act, but none of them were brave enough to try to become a star. So Ella pretty much gets a lot of support from her parents and brother for acting.
Does your character like Ms. Winthrop?: She doesn't exactly now her too well, but Ella does think she is one of the best drama and music teachers she had ever had. So yes.
Name: Cassandra Austen
Year in HS: Junior
Personality: She thinks very highly of herself. She's rich so she thinks she can get anything she wants and that she is a very talented person.
Do you have experience with acting and are you "good" at it?: She thinks she's good at it but really isn't really good at all.
Dancing?: She thinks she's a great dancer and whoever objects, she'd put down their name on the list of people she doesn't like.
Singing?: Again, she thinks she's really good at this but she's not.
More about you?: Whenever she doesn't get what she wants with money, she'd whine and then tell that person he or she would regret his or her choice. Cassandra is spoiled and she knows it but she isn't about to change that for anyone.
Does your character like Ms. Winthrop?: If she gets the leading role, she wouldn't hate her. At the moment, she doesn't hate her nor does she like her.
[[OOC: Oops, sorry about that! I guess it's too late to go back now so...I'll start off here.]]
Cassandra frowned when she heard Winthrop tell them auditions would start in ten minutes. So...I have ten minutes to waste...what can I do? Waiting in line certainly was boring and she was no where near the beginning of the line so she would have to wait even longer until she could be able to perform.
Looking at the time on her watch and then back at the long line of people in front of her, she decided to ask one of them to give up their position in line so she could go first. She had an important club meeting after this so she really needed to get out as soon as possible.
She scratched a little and then proceeded to walk to the tenth person in line. "Hey...mind if I go ahead of you? I have this really important meeting to attend after this so I really hope you won't mind!" Cassandra said as she dug her hand into her purse. "I hope twenty dollars is enough for thanks," she took the girl's hand and placed the bill in her palm.
Without hearing what she had to say, Cassandra stepped in front of her and smirked. It's not even like you have a chance against me.
Name: Ashton
Year in HS: Junior
Personality: He's a very outgoing and loud person, the type you'd expect to be a jock-of-all-trades, but he can get embarrassed easily. A very nervous person on stage, he aspires to overcome that and be more comfortable with his 'talents.'
Appearance: 5'10", medium build, face in signature pic ^_^ it's me!. He usually sticks to wearing jeans and a t-shirt, but for the audition he decided to dress up a bit by wearing jeans and a dark blue dress shirt.
Do you have experience with acting and are you "good" at it?: He did a play last year and played Malvolio in Shakespeare's Twelfth Night.
Dancing?: No
Singing?: Yes
More about you?: Besides singing he also plays the alto saxophone
Does your character like Ms. Winthrop?: He's never really met her. The play he did was for a small company outside of the school.
Ashton opened the auditorium door as quietly as possible, which meant a loud click and squeek from the unoiled hinges that echoed around the auditorium. He sighed and stepped into the dark room, walking towards the stage, thanking God it was dark so no one could see him blushing profusely. He mumbled his apologies as he passed Ms. Winthrop and tried his best to mingle into the rest of the auditioners.
Gina panicked, she was very close to the front of the line. Oh no! Auditions start in ten minutes what am I going to do?! When the girl pressed the bill into her haand, she pushed it back saying, "Here, I don't want your money. You can just have my spot in this line."
She moved back into the line to where the girl had come from and she relaxed, she was now closer to the back of the line than the front.
When Cassandra was handed back the money she gave out, she blinked as if what just happened was unbelievable. Did that girl just hand her back the money she gave? Noo, that was not going to happen.
She turned to the person she now stood in front of and told her to hold her spot. Digging into her purse again, she handed her a ten, "If you do a good job, I'll give you another ten." With that, she headed back to where the first girl was.
"Excuse me, I don't want my money back. It just doesn't work that way. I got the position, you get the money, okay? Now take it back," Cassandra said as she shoved the money back at her.
Gina handed back the money, again, "No, you don't understand. You wanted the spot and I gave it to you. I do not require payment for knowing that I acted honorably. So please, keep your money. You never know if you might need it." She extended her hand to Cassandra, "I'm Gina." She said.
Cassandra cocked an eye brow, "Me? In need of money? Oh, you've got to be kidding. I've got tons of those. Just take it, I don't like taking back my own money. When I give it to you, it's yours to keep. You can do whatever you want with it except handing it back to me."
When Gina introduced herself and extended a hand, Cassandra used that opportunity to give the money back to her. "Okay, nice meeting you, Gina. I'm Cassandra and now, good bye." With that, she hurried back to her spot before Gina could say or do anything in response to what she said.
Gina gave the money to a random person nearby, not wanting it. That girl has some serious issues, she does. Gina thought to herself. She sat down in line waiting for somebody to talk to her and pulled a book out of her pocket. She began to read.
