Dorian sat on the picnic bench, eyes wide as he watched an inchworm crawl its way along the wooden plank. He was exploring, while Christian was sitting a little distance away on a blanket, laying on his back and snoozing. He'd already set up lunch on the blanket beside him, for Dorian to eat when he felt ready.

He was exhausted, Dorian'd been up late sniffing and exploring every little thing. He'd gotten a good whiff of the world, and a lot of new things to compare them to. So he was doing so. And this inchworm... smelled like dirt. He reached a finger down, ready to squish it and see if it smelt different, when the wind shifted.

He looked up, blinking, and tried to make out the sudden change with his glasses. Stupid useless things, really, since he couldn't exactly see in color unless they were bright, like his walls (painted a bright blue) and his bed (white). But someone was coming, he could smell a difference.

It smelled like... like... something spicy. He frowned, and turned, waiting to see what was coming. He wasn't going to move until he knew it was safe, because Christian had already been over the stranger-danger thing. At least twelve times.

It wasn't like he meant to follow that old lady. Sheesh!

Gil barreled as the grassy lawn as fast as his legs would carry him. He had escaped, gotten away from those who would keep him captive and now he was free to explore. Well in his mind anyways, in reality Malen was walking slowly after him refusing to let him get out of sight.

For the moment though Gil didn't care, he was outside seeing the world. Malen had kept him inside the past few days making certain Gil knew enough of how things were supposed to go before he was allowed outside. Of course the inside of his house had been pretty interesting too but there was only so much space in an apartment to explore.

Spotting someone else his age he adjusted his course to head towards them. " Hey" yep that was it, just hey that was all Gil could manage while running.

Dorian's eyes went wide when a sudden blur came out of nowhere, and his grip on the table grew a bit harder, until Gil was in somewhat clearer vision, nearing him. He heard the greeting, and blinked, then looked down sheepishly. "Hi." was all he could manage, looking down shyly.

He glanced up, after a minute, and tried to take in the details of the boy. He seemed to be around Dorian's age, maybe he was another Sylph? He tilted his head at him, and sniffed. That's what the spicy scent was, it stung his nose a little, but not in a particularly bad way. "I'm Dorian." He said after a minute of observing the newcomer curiously.

He smelled another presence, but it was somewhat more subdued than this one, probably due to distance. So Dorian paid no mind to the guardian coming up on him.

Unable to get a proper feel for the bottom of his feet on the ground through his shoes Gil failed to make a proper stop and tumbled to the ground right in front of Dorian. In the process he got a mouthful of grass, which in Gil's opinion tasted pretty good sort of sweet.

He would have furthered his exploration on the taste of grass if he hadn't been a bit more interested on the other boy. Rolling onto his back he stared up with bright green eyes at the boy who reminded him somewhat of himself. They even boy had eye wear though His were read and called goggles, they'd been given to him by Del.

"Hi Dorian, I'm Gil."

Malen hung back watching the boy's interact. For the moment has going wrong so he'd let them be.

Dorian tried not to laugh when the boy stumbled to a stop in front of him, and fell face first into the grass. He covered his mouth with one hand and bit down, hard enough to bring tears to his eyes, and then sniffed, wiping his eyes. "It's nice to meet you, Gil." He was exercising the manners he'd picked up on his day out with Christian.

He tilted his head to the side, and smiled meekly. "Are you a..." The question died on his lips, because it didn't sound like it was coming out right. He blushed, and looked down. "Sorry." came a mumbled apology. Then he looked up again, and smiled, trying again.

"Ever see an inchy bug?" He turned back to the table, and scouted out for his preyed inchworm. Finding it, he pointed with one finger, grinning. "Smells like dirt." He said, looking over at Gil and smiling. The boy seemed nice, and he looked sort of like him. The goggles were different, though, since Dorian just had a simple pair of glasses.

Rolling over and crawling to his feet Gil let his gaze followed Dorian's finger. He'd seen the creature before and nodded " Yes on the thing I can't watch." The show his name had come from, the one with the smart person people liked. Gil wanted to be smart like that, to be liked.

Remembering Dorian's half question he looked at the other boy " Am I?' Was he what?

"What thing?" He blinked at him owlishly, then looked back at the worm inching along. When Gil had brought up what he'd begun to ask, he cringed. "Nothin'." He said, looking over and grinning. "Nevermind that."

He got up, and looked around. He spotted the blur that he was sure was Christian, since it smelled like oranges and creme like Christian did, and pointed at him. "That's my guardian, Christian." He looked over and grinned. "He's sleepin'." So stated the little Prince of the Obvious.

"D'you have one?" He meant a guardian, but assumed Gil would understand the question. And it'd sort of answer what he urged to ask, if he was what Dorian had been called, a Sylph. Or whatever it was.

Gil shrugged off Dorian's refusal to answer and gave his own. " The thing on the t.v the show I can't watch. With the bugs and stuff." He supposed Malen had been right about that, his first night after watching his name show he'd had horrible dreams about bugs all over him that had made him wake up screaming.

Gil looked at the sleeping guardian and smiled, Malen did that just laid down and slept sometimes . Sometimes it was eve on the net thing on the porch.

At the question Gil nodded dark green bangs falling into his eyes . He gestured wildly in the direction Malen should have been. " Yeah an he's nice an I have a sister and a dragon and little dragons." He boasted,a bit proud of his large family.

Malen waved at the boys despite the fact that Gil wasn't really looking at them. The bounty hunter was content to lean against a wall and watch while th Guardian slept.

Dorian blinked, and nodded a little, looking down at the inch worm again. "Are you terribly attached to this inchy thing?" It wouldn't matter either way, because Dorian didn't wait for his answer. He reached out with his thumb...

And squished the inchworm under his finger. He sniffed his finger then, and made a face. "It still smells like dirt. And... yucky stuff." He made a face, and wiped his finger on the grass, sitting up and looking around. "Let's find some other... bug." He got up, grinning, and wiped his pants off. "Maybe there's one that doesn't smell like dirt." It wasn't a pleasant smell. Yeesh.

Malen wouldn't be alone in the world of Guardianship for long, because Christian was starting to wake up. He stirred, and yawned loudly, before sitting up and rubbing his eyes. He immediately sought out Dorian, and seeing him fairly safe and with some other kid, looked around.

And he saw him some eye candy. Yum. He eyed Malen, then got up, rubbing his eyes, and headed over. Someone to talk to to save his sanity. "Hey." He greeted, grinning at him.

Gil stared at Dorian, why had he done that" Couldn't he smell the inchy thing without breaking it. Still the prospect of adventure soon sweapt away any doubts about the boy he had. " Ok, a bright one maybe bright smells better becuase it's light and dark smells bad becuase it's dark."

Gil was also curious about bright ones might taste, he wouldn't squish them to find out though he wouldn't want to taste the inside just the bright part.

Malen smiled at the other guardian " Hey, having a good nap?" he teased good naturedly. He himself was prone to napping when he had spare time, not that there was much of it these days with Gil around

Christian snorted at Malen, and leaned on the wall. "Best one since I got Dorian. ... First one since I got Dorian, actually, but..." He snorted, and grinned at him, holding out a hand. "I'm Christian Parker." He introduced himself, beaming and taking the split second to eye him.

Dorian nodded, curious about his theory. "That might work." He mused, grinning and heading off with Gil in the grass to hunt out a bright bug. He got down on his hands and knees, nearly nose-in-dirt close to the grass, and started looking. From this small distance between him and the grass, he could see better. All the better to hunt bugs with, my dear.

"If you see one, lemme smell it!" He said over his shoulder, taking a minute to look up and grin at Gil.

"... Dorian! Are you smellin' bugs?"

"Yes!"

"..." Christian rubbed his nose. "I don't know if I should let him do it or tell him not to. Honestly." He mumbled, ruefully. The child baffled him, most kids didn't go about sniffing bugs. ... Or other people, for that matter. Lucky him!

" Malen, just Malen" The bounty hunter said taking the offered hand. He had missed the other's mans swift evaluating look but it didn't bother him any. He enjoyed being looked at, especially after the disaster with Ianna. " Kids certainly don't leave much time for sleeping, is he your first?" Malen inquired. He knew that with Del he;d been up all the time panicking as a first time parent. reloading a gun on the run and learning to shoot from a moving vehicle or tackling a tentacled alien was nothing like trying to figure out how to say no to a keep or keep them in your sights.

He laughed softly at his lament about bug smelling " I doubt they let anything on the grounds that can hurt him. Besides it's a kid thing, they explore the world with one sense or another. My now oldest daughter licked the easter eggs she found at an easter egg hunt last year. It was weird but not really a problem."

Gil nodded " Sure" oh for sure he'd share but he was going to taste it first becuase he wanted to do that before it got squished. Pulling down his goggles colouring the world red he began to hunt around for a bright bug.

Christian nodded a little, sheepishly. "Yeah, he's my first." He snorted, and rubbed his neck. "I didn't think I'd even have one but... I dunno. It's pretty cool." He grinned sheepishly. "It's weird having him around, though. He keeps sniffing people out." He admitted, amused.

The face of Nicodemus when Dorian had first smelled him and covered his nose... It was just priceless, to be honest.

"What about him?" He nodded to Gil, grinning. "He your first, or no?" It would come to a shock to Christian if it was, he seemed pretty relaxed about the kid running around and doing his thing. Christian was still getting used to the idea of being responsible for a kid.

A pet? Was one thing. A kid, however...

Dorian tried to sniff out the bugs, but since they smelled of dirt... It was a bit harder to find them. But he was successful! He picked up a bug, and looked over at Gil. "I found one! And it's bright, too!" It was a bright yellow caterpillar. "It's fuzzy, though." He frowned. "I dunno if we can play with this one."

" It's Gaia this planet will trap you into kids if you're not careful Having been raised on Earth it was somewhat of a shock when I came to live here. When I finally started getting children it was awkward at first.."he laughed softly " I have three children that were given to me, Kishi who's on her own now, Del who's out with her dragon and Gil. I also have an adoptive daughter sort of named Coailiann from a previous relationship " he sighed at the last bit. hey supposed Kay was the only good thnh to come out of that relationship. " Be careful once you have one the powers that be seem to know and give you more." As he spoke Malen finger his violet and navy braid. It was getting a bit long. Perhaps he should cut his hair again soon.

Gil went over to Dorian and stared at the caterpillar. Through his goggles it looked orange, But it was still bright. He held out his hands for the caterpillar " Let me try." It was a bright bug, who cared if it was fuzzy, whatever fuzzy was.

Christian gulped, and fumed a little, knocking on the first bit of wood he found. "Don't jinx me." He grumbled. "One kid's enough, at least until he's older, y'know?" He sighed. He barely knew what to do with Dorian, let alone three or four or TEN!

He looked over, and grinned a little. "Your hair's pretty." He couldn't help himself sometimes. He tilted his head. "S'long." He mused. Now we know where Dorian gets his obvious nature from. And was Christian flirting? Prooobably. But it was in good nature, honest. He didn't want another relationship, they were costly.

Dorian blinked, and dropped the caterpillar in his hand, watching curiously to see what he'd do to it. "Still smells like dirt to me." He pointed out, pouting a little. Maybe the brightness didn't change the smell of bugs. Stupid bugs, yeesh. At least people smelled differently.
