I posted something in another topic on here, but my question was never answered. So, I decided that It might be best to make a topic for it. Here is a quote of what I posted: Quote: Anyway, I was curious about my size compared to a Japanese person. There the average for a female is 49.7kg or 50kg. Here I am considered skinny. I'm 5'1'' (or 154.2cm tall) and weigh 112 pounds (roughly 50.8kg). My cup size is barely able to fill an American size A and my waist measures 78cm if I've done it correctly. My shoulders are about 46cm wide. Also, I think my Japanese shoe size would be a 23.5. What I want to know is if anything about me would be considered 'big', or fat in Japan. The reason behind this is because I am planning on visiting Japan in a year or two and I want to know how difficult it would be to find clothes in my size. If anyone here has any information, please help.

I'm not really familiar with Japanese Shoe sizes, it might be large compared to most Japanese women (they generally have small feet). I think your stature would be pretty average or maybe even kind of short there.
I'm 5"3 and last time I went there, lots of women were still taller than me (I was around 5"1 or 5"2 then).
EDIT: I looked around in other forums and my sources tell me that 23cm is average shoe size for woman the biggest size you can get for women in most shoe store is 24.5cm. I guess there's not much of an increase on the average then.

I'm about 25 pounds heavier, and taller and my shoe size is 24.5 (size 8 in the states), and I was generally able to find clothes and shoes that fit (well, may have had a bit of trouble with jeans, but I'll admit I didn't try very hard for those). The sleeves were a bit short on things, but that was about it. I wouldn't worry about being considered fat. You're not that far off the average after all, and you sound pretty skinny to me. Have fun shopping!

I live in Japan and finding clothes can be tough. If you wear a US size M, and are not very curvy, you should be fine. I have have curves, hips, and a booty so I can never fit into pants or button up blouses. knit shirts, sweaters, (aka, things with stretch!) as well as skirts are fine. Shoes are also tricky. They measure in cm. Most women shoes go up to a US size 8, but forget about finding wide width! I wear a 25.5 ( the highest I ever see women's shoes in normal stores) and can fit into tennis shoes fine.
Luckily, there has been an increase in larger sizes as well as foreign stores. Most department stores have a "大サイズ" floor which goes from US size L and up. Also, stores like UniQlo and Zara have foreign sizes. Gap, however, goes up to jeans size 8 only. scream

Yeah, you're right. They go up to 10. But they don't higher (as far as I know) and they are unable to bring in other sizes (unless they have changed their policies recently). Uniqlo, on the other hand, has larger sizes on their site than they have in stores.

I think that you will have no problem finding clothes for yourself!
I wear S size in europe and in Japan I also fit in some S clothes, but I mostly buy M size because I am taller that the average Japanese women. Since you are smaller than me, everything should be ok.

Hmmm... sounds like you should have no problem.
I had though, I'm a size 10, and I only took 1 pair of jeans with me to Japan. I SO regretted that, because everyone was wearing jeans there, and I don't look too great in a skirt. But I couldn't find any jeans that would fit O_O I did buy some shirts there though.
My shopping tip is UniQlo; They have inexpensive, fun t-shirts in a lot of sizes. Also, they have pretty and inexpensive Yukata's there!

I really wanted to get one of their yukata, but they didn't come out until around the end of my stay and I had to budget quite a bit at that point. They were really pretty though.

I was wondering about that if I ever get to Japan, as I am a US size 17/XL or XXL and shoe size 11. I doubt I'd ever fit into most anything sold there that doesn't come from a specialty shop. stressed xd xd xd

I'm pretty much the same size (curse the genes that gave me these feet). Guess I'll have to make sure I pack a wide range of clothes any time I visit. sweatdrop

Atlanfer is there particular shop for goth loli, punk stuffs in tokyo? I might go for a vcation there but I dont know when though. xd of course ou will find many shops of that kind 3nodding but.. they are quite expensive. About 150/200$ (and probably more) for a good dress. i haven't been looking very well, since i don't particulary like that style, but there are many shops in the harajuku area whee sometimes you can also find them in some "normal" malls.
