This is a private RP for my Venati and Hana's Blackjack... Just went ahead and made this thread as RPing in the thread did not work out... x.x; Enjoy the read!

Venati paced through the lands, a light weight of tension riding the white angel's back like a cloak. She flicked her tail in irritation, a soft growl crawling up her throat, flowing out of her mouth. Her steps were angry, irritated... She worried for her children, despaired at their father... Wished she could do anything to stem the loneliness that crept through her body and suffused every limb. It weighted down her heart, made a tear of sadness sparkle in her wine-rich eyes. Where was a male when she needed one?

In the meanwhile, Blackjack had been doing what any rogue male was prone to do; wandering through the lands. He already had a relatively good grasp on what was what and where was where. His times in the area had served him well in that respect. But there was always something new, or someone just waiting to be found. It was the latter the decorative male sought more highly. He'd been alone more often as of late, a turn of events he didn't approve of in the slightest. Even if he was a wanderer, tried and true, he was about as far from a 'loner' as it came.

Now though, he was resting. Lounging in amongst a tree's branches, casual as could be, his lucky paw dangling loosely in the air.

It was the growl that drew his attention first, however soft it was, and he couldn't quite stifle his surprise as he looked down to spot the lioness pacing so near. His ears perked forward, a small grin tugging at his lips. Perhaps his dear Lady Luck hadn't forsaken him after all. (Little did he know just how right he was.)

A soft breeze blew by, heralding the male's presence with the soft ring of bells before he'd even had the chance to speak. "You seem troubled, my dear lady." His voice was soothing, comforting. Though as always, his expression was neigh unreadable with that mask of his. "Though lovely as always."

The wind stirring brought her attention to her surroundings, and Venati closed her eyes to scent the singing breeze, starting when a rumbling voice that brushed over her in all the right ways spoke. She knew those tones... That brand of flattery... Blackjack.
How long since they had last run into each other? She cast her head back, smiling up at him, hair falling out of her face. Despite her irritation at everything, the sight of the womanizing wanderer amused her. She reared back, placing her forepaws on the trunk of the tree, face near enough to nose his lucky paw, which she did with a playful smile.
"I kiss the paw of the King of all Games, the Games of all Hearts, the Hearts of all Lionesses." She said softly, eyes dancing. "I wander the Lands, Far from Lady Luck's Golden Bounty and the sound of the Games... And yet I find you... Perhaps our Luck is our own after all... It is wonderful again to see you again, Blackjack..."
She purred his name as she always had, unable to help it... He wore that mask.. Hiding his eyes.. But his scent was enough to make her purr, his presence enough to draw out the seductress she had kept hidden as she raised her children...
Children full grown and on their own...
The seductress came roaring back with a silken purr.

That same golden paw lifted just enough to brush against the lioness' cheek, a tantalizing feel of fur against fur. A soft purr echoed from the decorative male, a playful smile decking his muzzle as she spoke. Yes, he certainly owed his dear Lady Lucky a thousand thanks and more for this turn of events. There was no question that his eyes lay solely on her, though they remained unseen. "I am no more a king than I was the last time you graced my presence, m'dear."

He pulled himself upwards, only to bow his head low enough that his muzzle dangled but mere inches from her own. The dice swayed idly from side to side from his ear, glimmering dully in the light. "But I do not doubt it is true, my dearest lady. Queen of Hearts. Lady Lucky has smiled upon us both this day." His voice dropped a level or two, softer than before. "The feeling is most mutual, Lady Venati. Even the most glorious oasis in the harshest of deserts can not compare to the glory that is your smile."

It had been far too long since he'd last played his most favored of games. Especially with someone who knew the rules quite so well as she.

"The King of Games." She said with the faintest of nods, purring at his carress... Her words were breathy, a sigh of wanting... "The King of Pretty Words... You flatter me as always, Blackjack... Words this wicked Angel longs to hear, and you say them for her... Do you read our minds and hearts like cards on the table of your grand life? Do you consider me a particularly good hand?"
She arched a brow and winked, smiled widening. With a whisper of paws and a flutter of her hair she dropped back to the ground, backing up, coaxing him after her with a purr.

"I only wish it could be so easy, my dear lady... for then I would gladly make it my mission to make hearts land-wide swell. It's Lady Luck that deals the hand... I only hope I may play them to their satisfaction. For it breaks my heart not to make the most of their potential."

He dropped deliberately slowly to the ground, his own low purr rumbling clear in his air as he paced nearer. "You, dear Lady Venati... it goes without saying. So far as hands go, you rank amongst the best of them. Neither Queen nor Ace dare try hold a candle to your glory, for they know in a meager glance they can't compare. Not to the true Lady's beauty, strength, poise..."

She smiles, keen, knowing eyes glinting with lights of amusement and interest. Ahh the way Blackjack wound his words, right into her ears and wrapped tight about her heart. She did enjoy speaking to such a kingly male, enjoyed his company far more than any male she had met as of late.
She stepped back again as he paced close to her, smirking tauntingly. "Another game, Blackjack?"
A blush stained her cheeks at his flattery, and she ducked her head as though shy, mane flowing across her face. "Far greater than any King, more charming than any Prince, more entertaining then a Joker... Ahhh what hand would Lady Luck dub thee, Blackjack? We are two of a kind, I sometimes think..."

Blackjack could have laughed outright, though all he allowed was the slight perk of his grin. "Perhaps, " he teased, circling slowly around to approach from a side. "Game, gamble, both, neither... either way, my dear lady, I intend to see it through to the Finish."

He chuckled pleasantly at her words, allowing his head to dip with a flourish and another soft little jingle. "Your words are more piercing than the spade's edge, more sweet than any hearts that linger in hand... Perhaps you are right, my dear lady." She played the game every bit as well as he, knowing every trick, every turn like the back of her delicate paw. "Perhaps this humble old rogue's finally met his match."

And he loved every moment of it.

Humble? Yes.. She suppossed he was that... He never claimed to be a ladies man.. To be charming... To know his words could entice one's mind and heart and turn her deaf to every other voice but his...
Old?
"Never old." She chided. "Games and Gambles are ageless my friend. I could never discount the promise in a diamond, the passion in hearts... Such things do not fade in time.. Not with us..."
She purred as she watched him pace around. "But I am pleased you would consider me a match in such games... A lady tries to keep the best hand she can.."
She winked. "Around you, I suppose I am luckier than most."

"Aaah, right you are, m'dear, " Blackjack readily agreed. For who was he to argue? Lady Luck herself was a timeless entity, reaching out and touching those lives she deemed befitting her time, her favor. "Your words are wise as well as beautiful, Lady Venati... "

"It's enough to make one wonder... " He chuckled, tossing back his mane as he made an almost playful little dash towards the angel as he teased, "... if maybe you aren't my dear Lady Luck given flesh and fur."

She gave a burst of silken laughter like music, leaping away from him with a playful smile. Her? Lady Luck?
"I doubt that, Dear Sir.. But perhaps, if I am your Lady Luck.. You would know before I do?" She stopped still, pacing close to him and ducking under his chin, purring and rubbing the length of her body against him. She turned and faced him, eyes deep and tumultuous with emotion.
"Am I your Lady Luck, Blackjack?"

"An interesting proposition if there ever was one, my dear lady, " Blackjack murmured. As always, his expression was neigh unreadable with that mask of his. But there was that purr, warm and husky, that rose to greet Venati at the contact. So fast, so brief, yet so...

That scent so sweet lingering beneath his nose even after she'd slipped back away, the barest hint of a sigh escaping his throat. As per the rules, he was left wanting for more. (And -how- he wanted it.) This game was so unlike any he'd played as of late. If ever.

And as was his way, he decided to take a gamble. Where was the fun without a bit of risk involved? "Hm... if it were for me to say, Lady Venati... " A smile quirked at his lips. He reached upwards, slowly tilting his mask to a side with his paw. Just enough to reveal one piercing golden eye, unguarded, for the angel alone to see.

"You're everything I'd imagined her to be, and more."

Venati arched a brow as he considered her proposition, and she smiled. Wishing she could see behind that mask of his... What would she see if she could read his eyes? His voice was enough for the moment, purring and dancing down her form.
She tilted her head, eyes dancing with questions, interest and amusement as he spoke again. If it were for him to say? Did she want to hear what he thought? She did... Despite the fact it might be a farewell -and oh how she wished it wasn't- she had to hear whatever he wished to say to her.
She felt something tug in her chest at the sight of one gleaming golden eye, her breath freezing in her lungs. Oh with one look, what he did to her heart!
"More?" She whispered, voice soft and husky with emotion. "Am I more you could ever wish for Blackjack? The best hand you could ever have? Do you want to win this game against me? Or would you be content to lose?"
She smiled, pacing up to him and whispering in his ear as she rested her cheek against his. "Either way, I suppose we would win, if your interests are the same as mine."

((This only took me forever and a half to respond to. x_x; Well, in any case, if it's too late... er, yeah, I'm sorry for sucking. ^^;; *hides in a corner*))

"To win is to lose, to lose is to win. It's not that matters, not like this. It's how we play. The only true loss now, my dear... would be if you were to turn away, " he rumbled softly, rubbing his cheek lightly against her own. "If you were to toss in your hand and call it a day." It wasn't what he wanted. Of course it wasn't. But...

Blackjack smiled, his bells twinkling away as a soft chuckle shook his form. "But I suspect the die are tipped in my favor." He edged away, but only so he could face her, the tip of his nose just nearly touching her own. Almost, not quite. "Will you continue the game with me, my lady luck?"

((Too late for what? Vena is never pursued, poor lass... She collects dust..
Venati arched a brow at him. She had lost once... So deeply... The memory of her death still haunted her, made easier by her trip back to life, and the friends she encountered in the realm between... But most males didn't want a female like her... Whistle was lucky, her intended would have walked through hell to have her back... And Tierany had managed to ensnare the lord of Life and Death himself... But Vena?
After being gifted with cubs by a dear friend, she had had no other male... She had lost too much to like losing... Lost too much to 'confuse' it with winning... And she had lost too much to make ridiculous bets...
But Blackjack seemed like so sure a thing, he made her want to lay her cards on the table... And say.. Say she had fallen...
His Lady Luck?
She arched a brow, her momentary vulnerability swallowed by her usual easy confidence and grace. "Your Lady Luck, Sir? I was not aware I had been claimed..."
A leading statement if ever there was one...

((Aww. I'm shocked! Such a pretty lady. D: *loves all over her*))

Blackjack had suffered his own losses at the table. Not the ultimate loss Venati had known. But he knew the pain a gamble of the heart could bring.

But he also knew there was no thrill to the game if one wasn't willing to take the risk. If the prize was worth it, he'd sooner take the pain than never known it at all. And Venati... she wasn't like the other lionesses. He'd gone through the paces with many a female, more than he could ever recall, learned every trick and twist they'd toss on the board. Venati was different. A female like her was exactly what his wandering heart had been longing for. A female like that was worth the price.

He smiled that charming smile of his back at her. "The claim has long since been laid, my lady. Since the day I first took upon these die and swore myself to you. I've always followed the path you so carefully crafted, never knowing where it would lead." A light touch of noses, feather-soft. "Now I know. And now I finally see you."
