The world was officially open to her. She was now an official adult--no longer a child under the care of her parents, of a babysitter, or anything of the like. Breathing in the air and the sense of pure freedom (well, sort of), she placed a sure red hoof forward as she gracefully made her way across the clear meadow, enjoying the gentle atmosphere of late summer and early fall seasons. Life couldn't get any worse--or better--than this.
Although her father was a Kalona, he was "good"--she supposed--and certainly very strict. It anything, her older sister Hinode had it much easier than she did, but maybe it was because Hinode looked more Kalona than she did Wind. The firstborn got lucky and received Windflame's physical features, while Blackfire, the youngest of the two, got their mother's looks. She had nothing against her mother, but she still couldn't see how Ringlet and Windflame had, well, fallen in love.
It was just too weird. But then, she wouldn't be here without them so she was going to shut up now. In her head, anyway. Frowning at how she was slowly--ever so slowly--going insane, she slammed her Kalona blood down and allowed her better blood take over her. It wouldn't do for her to go all kinds of crazy if she decided she wanted to tear into fresh, raw, bloody meat, now would it? That, and she looked more like a Wind Soquili than a Kalona, so that behavior would be nothing short of, well... insane.
Contemplating these thoughts, she continued on her merry way across the meadow, oblivious to anything around her temporarily.

Dustin flew over the land below. He had been walking most of the time now that he had come to this place but today he felt like flying. The breeze felt good underneath his large wings as it lifted him through the sky. He had been woken up early by Taylor and her annoying talking in her sleep. He had the faintest idea as to why he had decided to live with that odd group and then he did remember why.
Skye had been so kind and gentle when she had found him the the forest with an injured wing. Through her gentle care he had decided to stay with the indian girl and try to bring order to the group of Soquili that lived with her. Three were family, then the other two were traveling companions who annoyed the crap out of each other. it was all rather interesting indeed but he found as the days went on he choose more to just stand by and watch then to try and intervine.
As he came over the meadow he looked down to see if anyone he knew was was there but alas, the only one he saw was a dark colored mare and it looked like she had wings, just like he did. But only in light blue. Finally some one like him to meet!

Soft, light blue eyes unfocused because she was thinking deeply, Blackfire never noticed she had company up in the air. She was, currently contemplating whether or not to take to the skies, ironically enough. She usually liked to walk or run in order to build her stamina, because horse lords knew she needed it if she planned to be able to stay aloft in the sky for a long time. Hinode was stronger than her physically, but didn't have the quick reflexes of their father.
Blackfire did, thank goodness, but she wasn't really all that strong either. All this thinking about her family was also slowly giving her a monstrous headache, something she didn't want or need. Finally coming out of her thoughts, she flexed her light blue wings that had a smidgen of red in them, thinking maybe a stretch of her wings would be good to wake her up into reality. From time to time her father would visit a two-legger--the one who had done her hair, in fact--but then he would return to her current home, a forest out in the middle of nowhere.
She had yet to meet other winged Soquili like her (besides, of course, her mother and... well, her whole family, really) that weren't blood-related... but the thought was a stray, lightly considered, then tossed aside. Perhaps she should stop thinking and keep moving...

Dustin circled and decided to wath her for a moment. It seemed as though she was deep in thought as she stretched her wings out. He cocked his head to the side as he flew and wondered what she was so deep in thought about. It seemed as if it should hurt. If he thought that hard it would have!
At that thought his thinking too much over the mare and cocking his head to the side made him almost flip and fall from the air. But catching himself in time he decided that maybe he should land and stay grounded for a while.

She closed her wings, having decided not to fly after all. There was no point, since she was planning to run around the meadow for a while anyway. She'd be too tired to take to the air, and her body would feel too heavy for her to lift off by the time she finished. As she readied herself to take off at a dead run, she suddenly noticed a shadow that hadn't been there before.
It was somewhat small, telling her that either it was a bird or it was something that was high up in the sky. She turned, and looked up into the sky in time to see a black stallion with semi-red wings floating about, probably watching her. Scowling, she immediately took off into the air. She'd teach this guy a lesson for interrupting her privacy (not that she actually cared that the stallion never even tried.)
"Hey, you!" she pratically barked her irritation at the stallion as she got closer and closer.

He was suprised as she immediately flew into the air to confront him. Busted! Oh well, he had planned on going down to talk to her, it was just she had come up to meet him before he had that chance. though by her tone she didn't seem happy.
"Hey, there! Wondered when you would spot me. Thought for a moment I might have to go down there to talk to you." he said and gave her a wink. Sure he was being cocky but hey, it had been a while since he could be.
Normally he was the nice and polite good guy but today there was just something in him that said be out there today. So he was and it was just a good thing that she was such a spit fire as it would seem.

It was obvious she had surprised him by the look on his face, but she neither paid attention nor did she care. However, he seemed quite... delighted... and his words that came next just inflamed her fury. Wink at her, would he!?
"How dare you!" she spat, rage coursing through her entire being. "Don't think for a moment I'm going to fall for your flirtatious idiocy!" she seethed. "What were you doing stalking me?" Okay, she might have phrased that poorly and was going a bit far, but hey, she was angry.
Apparently Hinode wasn't kidding when she commented that males would be extremely attracted to Blackfire. She hadn't believed her elder sister. Now she did. And she wished it wasn't true. Trying to calm herself would take quite a bit of effort, too.

"Woah! Hold it! I wasn't stalking you. This is the first time I ever laid eyes on you." he pleaded in his defense. She really was a handful and he wasn't sure if he really wanted to get into with her now. And what was this about flirtatious idiocy?
She was deffinately easy on the eyes but it had never occured to him to try anything with though she seemed to think he was. Now how in the world had he dug himself into this one.

He was pleading... somehow his words connected with her mind and finally became something she understand. Rage slowly washing away from her blue eyes, she floated a bit, eyeing this new male with a slight air of arrogance. Perhaps she was just jumping to conclusions--again--and she had better just learn to start things off more friendly-like... but she didn't exactly grow up learning how to approach others with a simple 'hello'.
"...Sorry," she said, somewhat mumbled, but loud enough the other male could hear her. "I'm somewhat paranoid when I'm by myself," she explained. And a bit of a control freak like my Dad, but I know for a fact I'm more open, she thought to herself. This male was purely black but for the reddish-colored tints in his wings and his mane and tail, and the symbol on his leg, though she didn't understand what it meant. Taking a breath, she looked at him in the eyes meekly and said, "Uh... sorry, again, and my name is Blackfire. And you are...?"

He eyed her curously. One minute it seemed she was going to rip him a new butt hole and now she was appologizing. At least she was interesting and a wind like he was, which was what had made him want to talk to her in the first place.
He too looked her over and noticed that her wings also had some red him them. Her mane and tail were braided and were the same color of wings except for a curled piece that was white. She has blue and red stars on her rump as well and he wondered if she was born with it, like Midori was born with her symbol, or if it was a tattoo like his. He looked back at her face and noticed that beneath her light blue eyes there were red marks as well.
"Appology accepted though you had every right to be defensive. I guess I was kinda spying which wasn't too polite of me. If I were a good lookin female such as yourself, I would be paranoid too." he said and gave her a friendly wink and hoped it wouldn't start her off again. "My name is Dustin and it is a pleasure to finally meet another wind like myself. I have to say, your name deffinately suits you!" he said with a chuckle and floated a bit himself.

She quirked an eyebrow at this guy, also realizing he was the first male Wind Soquili she had met. She had met plenty of female Wind Soquili, certainly, but never a male. Most of the males she'd met so far didn't even have wings, let alone being found spying on her.
She waited as he looked her over--that made her feel undoubtedly like the prey being watched by the predator--but she hid her shivering. When he finally looked back at her face, she had to scowl. Those words pouring out of his mouth weren't exactly the kind she was expecting.
"A pleasure to meet you as well, I suppose," she said, raising an eyebrow at the way he was acting. "Thank you, but it's to be expected..." She didn't take compliments too well either, but she allowed the words to wash over her and then vanish. She was going to ignore them. "What brings out here, anyway? And..."
With a sudden turn, she practically dived back to the ground, going at an alarming speed, but just before she looked like she was going to crash, she spread out her wings, landing with a graceful thump-thump-thump of her hooves. "Why don't we speak on the ground?" she called up to Dustin.

He was startled by her sudden movement but quickly recovered and followed her back to the ground. He could tell she wasn't too impressed with him and his talk and decided to just cut it out. With a great spread of his wings he landed near her with also a soft thump of his own hooves.
"Well, I guess the wind brought me out here, obviously. Basically I was just out for a morning fly. What about you? You seemed awfully deep in thought, I thought your head might explode!" he said trying to lighten her mood and get rid of the scowl on her face. He wasn't sure if it was what she was thinking about that was the reason she was defensive or if it was just her nature and attitude towards him.
Truth be told he had not met another soquili quite like her and so didn't know how to really react or to respond. But he tried to keep his cool and move on with the conversation. After all she was the first wind he had met and he wasn't about to screw it up. Who knew, maybe she knew others and would tell them how much of a jerk or retard he was and then he would never meet any other winds.

In truth, Blackfire was just slightly bothered by the fact she had been spied on. She didn't take this too well, and also was blaming herself for not being more aware. After his explanation, she managed to calm herself down even more.
"Ha, ha," she replied sourly, but nodded. "I usually walk around doing nothing but thinking, so I guess it would seem like my head would explode," she commented. "I was trying to find some alone time to think, really." She looked at Dustin with an accusatory look, but then sighed.
"So am I the first you've met? That's not bad, since for all you know you could have run into my sister, and she's not so nice." She refrained from saying she was part Kalona and could probably tear him apart and feast on his flesh. Darn those stupid Kalona instincts!

"Yes, you are the first that I have met. I don't know if it's just that I can't find the others or if they aren't where I have been looking." he said almost sadly, but caught himself. The last thing he needed was her to think of him a wimp. She already had a bad impression no need to make it worse.
"So you have a sister? I don't have any family. Other than those that I live with. What is it about your sister that makes her not so nice or do you just not like her? Like sibling rivalry." he asked.
He never understood family realationships. Sometimes families were tight-knit and very close and then there were those who just hated each other. That was the case with most Kalona families. He had never had a caring family or one at all and that was most likely the reason he didn't understand them.

Her mouth twitched, though she kept it hidden. The poor guy had been looking for others of his kind? She kept a snicker hidden, also not mentioning she was half-Kalona, since she definitely didn't have any features of the demonic Soquili on her anywhere. "Where are you searching to start with, Dustin?" she finally asked, her mouth still threatening to break into a smile of amusement.
"Oh, it's not that we hate each other; that's a shock if we did! Our parents would throttle us," she commented, eyes narrowing. "No, if I told you, you probably wouldn't believe a word until you met her, my friend." Well, Dustin wasn't exactly 'her friend' just yet, since they had just met and were beginning to know each other, so it was just a well-meaning phrase. "You still have a family though, and that should be more than enough."
She finally allowed a smirk to appear on her face. "Even if you aren't blood-related, what makes the difference? So long as you feel you have a family, then that's all that matters, isn't it?" Blackfire couldn't believe she was giving away advice, but then, she had grown up with such wisdom anyway. It wasn't hard, but at the same time it was a bit surprising, since she wasn't usually too friendly (like Dustin had found out earlier.)
