It had been a few months since he had come to the shore, his jet black coat shimmered in the dawns rays, those charcoal eyes searching out over the waves as if he was lost, as if expecting that hint of red to become that which he waited quietly for. Nahodha'kota had always longed for the sea, he simply hadn't thought about the journey to get there. His travels had brught him through lands he did not know and indeed in tot he arms of a lady he now longed for. The large male was far from loathe to admit that he missed his 'first mate' that deep rouge coat, those perfect eyes, yet he couldn't tear himself away from the salty brine to go out and find her. It had been a struggle to return to the pridelands, to inform his family he lived, that he prospered by the sea.
Standing this day with the waves lapping at his toes as the sun turned the sea from inky black to soft blush red he gave a slow sigh. "I wonner whar ye be nah lassy? Did ye fin' what we was lookin' fer out in tha world?" His brow creased and he let out a sarcasstic laugh and a snort. "Aye lassy, ye prolly did." Shaking his dark mane the huge figure of a male turned towards the shore an dhis favourite resting place. He was charged after all with protecting this pride and those within it, the borders of the beach and the brittle sharp grasses which grew there had long become his favourite 'den', smiling he gazed out at the waves, allowing the first rays of sunlight to colour his fur from black, with the slightest hints of white to sharp golden-red. "Khepri I 'ope ye be farein well lass..."

There was a simple way to answer Kota's question that he'd thrown to the air of the sea that day and it was this: "No, no she had not and no she was not." However for him to have known that would be an annomaly even to the female that was left broken and shredded upon the sand now as she'd been along the sand back then.
Salt water lapped against the gaping gashes in her neck and it was all Khepri could do to keep herself from screaming at the pain that lashed through her muscled body so severely. She felt like she was a cub again, cursed by the sands and marred by the claws of a slave, yet this time she'd been marred by one that called himself 'terror', one that was far beyond what she could muster, though she'd admit to having terrorized him in return with the blood that boiled through her veins.
The same blood that was now pooling under her head, neck and shoulders, only to be washed away by yet another wave.
Kota... Ah may nevah see ya again... bu' Ah wish ya knew jus' 'ow foolish Ah was fer leavin' ya be'ind like that.
Golden eyes started to glaze over from exhaustion at how simply weak she was, how much she wanted to just fall limp against that huge black body of his and dissapear beneath his fluffy mane. How many times in the past few months had she thought that? How many foolish thoughts had she wished she could remember of their short time together, that she'd tried to dredge up after her attack and her betrayal.
Far too many. Was it a bane to miss him this much? Was this a sort of punishment that she'd recieved in loving and leaving him? To make it to the sea, only to bleed to death and become a part of it, never again to see his welcoming face?
No... that was too cruel and giving the gods far too much credit. This she'd done to herself. And if she would never again see him... then so be it, but she wished for maybe the last time, that her thoughts of her love for him might reach his mind or ears... so that at least he would know she'd never wanted to leave him the way she had.
That she loved him. ninja

Perhaps then it was the thought of her that made him shake his mane and stop moaping. What would she think of him sitting here and moaping imagining the sea to form her shape? With a slight growl audable only to his ears he got to those enormous paws and started to trot down the beach, his paws taking him to the waters edge where he could allow his paws to absorb the water, where the sea was saltest, the waters edge. With a last sigh the jet black male set off in an almost meaningful lope to check the outskirts of the prides lands.
His dark mane rolled over his shoulders akin tot he waves that splashed his feet as he allowed the day and the waves to wash away his sadness. Perhaps one day he would see her again.
As he rounded the slight bend in the bay, past the great staggering monolyth of rocks, he saw her. At first those coal black eyes recognised nothing except for a hurt animal, a hurt lioness laying in the sand the sea casting her blood red coat with his shimmering waves. It only took him a single step and a breath of salty air though to realise whom lay amongst the waves. "Khepri?" His voice, usually so strong, confident, rautious, became in a split second that of a scared child, a cub frightened of what he was seeing.
His mucles tightened as he watched her for a moment, afraid she was dead, afraid he would never see her breath only to see her flinch as the waves washed at her sides.
"KHEPRI!" That strong powerful voice was back with avengance, filled with fear, anger, love, that heavily mucled glossy black body pelted down the beach i merely a bling of an eye. He skidded to a halt above her his nose slowly reaching down to touch the sore upon ehr neck, his tongus automatically lapping out to clean the wound before he said another word. "C'mon nah lassy, ye can't be stayin' ere all day, up ye get." Though he tried to keep his voice calm and steady, every word shook with emotion. Khepri, what had happened to her? He wanted to yell and growl and destroy whom ever had done this to his lady love but no, he knew that was all but a fools errand, right now he must care for Khepri, he would find out whom had harmed her later, and when he did, he had never faught before but he knew how, they would pay for this agony they had put her in.
Nudging under her body his coal black head nudged her upwards, hoping to at least get her seated enoough sos he could clamber upon his back and he could take her from the salty waves that seemed to hurt her with every moment spent amongst them. "C'mon nah khepri, ye can't be leavin me hangin' ere lassy getcha up on ta mah back we gotta get ye outta tha sea." His whispered his voice quiet, meant only for her. "please Khepri, I don' wanna lose ye a secon' time"

Her name ripping through the air was what made her stop before she totally slipped away, before she totally gave in. Khepri's glazed golden eyes blinked up at her love in confusion for a moment, not seeing him yet at the same time seeing him with every fiber of her being.
Of course she couldn't see through those eyes. She wasn't blind, but with how much blood she'd lost she couldn't use many things on her body anymore, her eyes had gone first of course, her vision growing streaky over time and poor Khepri had been forced to use her nose to find the ocean. Now even that was slowly stopping it's functions as her body shut down, but she forced it to work at that moment, forced it to recognize that it was him, that it was really Kota.
"Kota... oh Kota..." Khepri didn't acknowledge his nudges, she knew that she was far too weak to try and even sit up. She could probably try and drag herself across the sand to get away from the water, but odds were good that would just agravate her wounds and might even cause her to die. She'd been so close not that long ago. "'Kota... Ah'm s-sorry. Ah didn' make it back ta yo' in time.. Ah guess."
One of her large white paws reached out blindly for him, desperate just to reach out and touch him once more, desperate to know that even though her nose told her and her ears heard that lovely voice of his, that it was truly him. Tears slowly rolled down her cheeks as she thought of him.
"This is all mah fault... Ah nevah shoulda left ya cap'n." Her voice wavered in pain as she let out a sheepish laugh, paw finally falling. "Oh Kota.... please.... please." What a fool Ah must appeah to ya love... what a dyin' fool Ah was when Ah left ya... did ya miss meh all this time? Did ya thin' o' meh at all?
Her words trailed off as her eyes closed once more. ninja

His brow furrowed deeply as he looked at the lapping waves and did the only thing that this situation, and the inability to move the dark red female, possible. He lay down in the line of the waves. Pressing his body tightly against Khepri's he nzzled beneath her chin, rolling his nose to her ear line "Don' you be dyin on me na, what am I sposed ta do without me first mate hmm?" He smiled weakly, trying to make a joke of the dire consequences which his lady love had returned to him. "Please don' die, I need ye.." His ears flattened and he turned to the slowly seeping wound at her side. His raspy tongue lapped along the wound, the sea water had already started his work for him, the salt having scorched the edges but it needed to be cleaned.
With the waves lapping against his spine, his dark fur becoming drenched, though he barely noticed so focused was he upon this mark which caused the blood red lioness to lie in this ruined mess, to lie weak as he had never seen her. "I won' let ye leave me agin lassy, jus' stay wit me!" He smiled softly admireing her beauty as he never had before, he refused to let her slip through his paws again.
Glancing towards the sea he smiled, the tide was going out. They could stay where they were at east until the evening when the water would find it's way back up the bay. Someone was watching them. He smiled lightly, he had always beleived in the gods but on occassions like this he thanked them.
"I'm here lassy you jus' stay wit me, I aint goin no place witout you."

'Khepri...'
The name seemed to be called from nowhere a she floated weightlessly through the black nothingness of wherever she'd suddenly awoken. As far a Khepri could tell there was nothing around her, so where was that voice coming from?
A glint to her left caught her attention seconds before the glint appeared again and her throat was ripped into, shredded under the force of 'Terror's' claws. Under the strength of War's servant.
Flung to the ground, Khepri's eyes narrowed and started to flare with boiling anger, her blood ebbing within her, when another glint to her right appeared and the right side of her neck was given the same treatment. A cry came from her a she fell this time, body limp on the ground, useless.
'Guess you didn't make it did you?' Came Terror's voice in the blackness. 'Firekin my furry a**. Go find someplace to die you useless hunk of fur.' Spit connected with the side of her head as Khepri closed her eyes and began to cry.
Kota... kota.... kota....
"KOTA!"
Both of her golden eyes flew open a she suddenly came out of her short stupor of faint, her eyes wide and her muscled body perched in a half sitting/half sprawled position. The film seemed to have gone from over her eyes, but they were wild, confused and hurt. For a long few moments nothing made sense to her at all, no smell no sight no nothing.
Then as she slowly came back to herself she felt him, the steady blanket to her back, so warm and inviting, so calming and protective.
Turning to gaze into his eyes, she felt pain flash through her neck and almst knock her off her front paws. So it hadn't jut been a dream eh? Terror had actually done just that, had scored her and defiled her, and here she was back with Kota again, back with the male she loved more than air.
No... she didn't deserve him after being defiled and destroyed like this. But... did she have the strength to leave him again? It had hurt so much last time and now with him in front of her... she didn't think she could, even her strong willed thoughts didn't leave any room for her to leave him at all.. wouldn't let it be so.
Tears started to flow harder down her white muzzle and Khepri all but threw herself againt him, shivering in happiness and sadness and anger at herelf all at the same time.
"Kota, kota... oh Kota i's yo' and yo're alive. Yo're 'ere. Oh Kota Ah've missed ye... can yo' forgiv' meh fer leavin' ya?" Khepri babbled as her nose buried into that thick mane of his, blood oozing down her neck harder, though going unoticed for now. "Ah though' Ah'd nevah make it back to ya aftah wha' 'appened ou' there."
She was babbling, but it didn't matter, it was Kota, oh it would never matter again as long as she was with him would it? ninja

"aye lassy I'm ere, whar ya bin? who done this to ye lass?" He smiled weakly, glad to see her gain some sort of semblance. He groomed her ears gently, his smokey black eyes watchingover the beautiful red creeature quietly. "ye know I missed ye lassy, I din't think ye was gunna come back ta me." He smiled weakly, his ears flattening and vanishing beneath that wild sea swept black mane.
Looking to her neck the large black male frowned slightly "lay still now Khepri, I won't be goin' no place any time soon..well..s'lon as you wan me to stay wit ye." he smiled sheepishly at the beautiful female curled so close to him now, he had always loved her, his khepri, and no, she had returned to him and he would be damned if he was going to let her go again at least without taking himw ith her. "jus' relax darlin' you need ta rest fer a spell afore ye try an' move. I won't be goin no place, I promise." he smiled weakly and lowered his nose to her ear. "thar aint nout to fergive lassy, you wuz follerin ya eart tha way I follered mine ta tha sea, I'm jus' glad your art braught ye back ta me. I dun think I could be livin' witout ye lassy."

Nuzzling up against him with tears streaming from her tarnished golden eyes and blood from her neck, Khepri sobbed and did her level best to cling to her love. She'd missed him so over the past few months, she'd gone almost crazy without him and now here he was and she'd finally managed to find him, but she was in such a state.. She must have appeared an utter wreck to him.
"Ah'm sorreh Kota... Ah got caught an... the blood jus' flows a little thicka when Ah'm angry an..." Khepri trailed off and looked down at her white tipped paws in embarrassment for a long time. Here she'd let herself get so hurt that it was hard to even see, it was hard to see him when she wanted to. Right now she was just going off of scent and feel alone, was that even enough?
No... that answer was no, it'd never be enough just to smell or feel him next to her. She wanted to actually be able to see him, with his ebony fur and that snow white that traipsed across his handsom body.
Looking up through blurry, watery eyes, Khepri smiled weakly and leaned all her body's weight heavily against him as if he were the last thing on earth.
"Ah'll nevah leave yo'r side again 'Kota... Ah'd die if Ah did. Ah learn'd somethin' ou' ther' on th' savannah. Tha' no mattah 'ow close Ah got ta findin' anythin'... Ah lost a biggah part o meh when Ah lef' yo. Ah los' mahself." Khepri explained slowly, pressing her nose against his broad cheek sadly. "Ah love yo' Nahdoha'Kota, captin... Ah nevah wanna leave yo again."
Hope shimmered in her sharp eyes for a moment and she reclined to him lazily, happily for the first time in all the time she'd been away from him. She was truly happy. ninja

The dark male smiled as he saw those golden eyes his lips split in a smile and he touched ehr nose with his own. "Ah'm sure the otha guy came off worse then." He whispers a little chuckle in his voice which hid the worry which carried a shiver down his broad spine. He was woprried sick about Khepri, the open wound on her neck looked infected even at a glance, the salty sea water had washed it clean at least, which was one less thing for him to worry about, still he wished it would stop bleeding. It was frightening to see his Khepri in such a state, strong and beatiful, graceful in his eyes, her dark red coat in perfect comparison with his own black, or so he always felt. He smiled lovingly wrapping his neck around hers, his black mane absorbing some of the blood which trickled down her throat.
"Ye jus' stay still lassy I ain't goin any where." He gave a soft little loving growl as he held on to her lapping gently at her small tufty ears. "Life jus' aint tha same witout you Khepri, tha seas mah mistress but even she aint as beautiful witout you ere to share it lassy. I won't be lettin ye walk oot 'o' my life agin I swear it." He lifted his head then and groomed her face his tongue lapping over every inch of her face remembering the soft feel of her fur, remembering their journey accross the savannah, remembering their times together and hating that they had gone their seperate ways.
"I Love ye more'n anythin lassy an Ah'll go whar ever ye lead me, s'long as ye dun be leavin me side again, not na, not nevah ah'll foller ye ta tha en' o the earth an back ta be atcha side, I swears it." He calmly lays his head over her shoulders, his thick black fur envelopeing her deep bloody red coat. "Ah promise ye lassy. Ah'll be keepin' ye wit me fereva"

"Nothin' in th' worl's as great as bein' wit' yo' 'Kota." Khepri said softly, nuzzling into his side and purring gently. She was dizzy from bloodloss, and tired from how far she'd walked for so many many months. All she wanted to do was sleep. All she wanted to do was collapse and sleep.
"Please Kota... Please don' eva' leave meh. Ah promise Ah won' leave yo' again. Jus... please don' leave eitha." Her voice was slurred more than usual as she leaned against him and curled desperately into his fur, she was so tired, she'd slept so little for so long, had kept pushing herself endlessly for as long as she could. It was completely exhausting.
Now all she wanted to do was sleep. Sleep knowing that she was finally home, finally where she belonged after so long of being alone in the world.
Burying her face into his huge mane, Khepri curled against him and and let her eyes drift closed. It would be the first time since she was a cub that she'd slept so well, slept so long. And it was all thanks to him that she was able to at all. Images of the sea and of dark shadows crept behind her eyes as they were slowly washed away by the black eyes of the only male she'd ever cared for or would ever love.

'Kota watched her deep in to the night, watching over heras she slept, the moon was at it's senith long before the dark male finally dropped his head tot he sand to sleep, comforted by the slow breathing of the female beside him. His lover had returned to him and all he could do was smile. "Sleep well, I'll never leave ye lassy, I promise." A large wide yawn stretched the white markings on his face and he closed those coal black eyes to the world, the sea and khepri's breathing easing him in to a deep slumbre.

Through out the night the dark male woke to watch over his fitfully sleeping love but he did not move from her side. His charcoal orbs admired her despite the state she was in, the bright moon reflecting from those onyx like eyes. He did not nudge to wake her simply watching her in the moons cool light, his body wrapped closely around her to keep her warm.
His smile never faltered from his lips. Despite the fact that she was injured, sore, and in a state he had never sen her in,s he was here, he couldn't truthfully beleive his eyes. She was here before him and he could have stayed awake all night watching her sleep.
Letting a soft sigh roll over his lips the dark male once again placed his head around her shoulders, hugging her to his thick set chest. She had returned to him and that was all that mattered.
