Alright. In October I am turning 18. I have a little over a year before I go on a mission. I have decided to go on one. Yesterday I recieved an email from a friend in the netherlands, who I went to every appointment with the missionaries, and was there when she got baptized and her first ever Baptisms for the Dead I went with her. We are really close. Well, SHE GOT ENGAGED!! eek heart I am so happy for her! Her wedding is next year in Curacao (an island I think in the caribbean) and I have decided to go. It will delay my mission by a few months. I wont be going until early 2007, probably Feb or March if I go to the wedding. My family, all but my sister has a problem with it. She is close to Thany (my friend) as well. Which is why she is excited for me going to it. My family however doesnt like the idea of me choosing to delay my mission to do this. I dont know how I should go about this with them. I tell them "Look, its my choice to go on a mission. I dont see what the big deal is about me delaying it for something that is important to me to be too." "Well we just dont agree with that." Makes me wonder if I am in 4th grade again. neutral They make it sound like I have no choice to go.

Well, I'm assuming you don't get to see your friend very often. A wedding is a once in a lifetime thing. I say go for it. Plus, after you're 18, your parents can't tell you what to do anymore.

Yeah, your mission is important, but you are still going on it. It's not like it's one or the other. Go to the wedding, have a good time, just make sure your short delay of a mission doesn't turn out to be a permanent one.

All that im going to say is this:
It might not be good for you, but the Lord knows when to call you!! I say send in your mission papers, and see if the time is right for you to go on a mission or if you can delay it. Remember you never know if you do chose to delay it, if you can go at all. Some people chose to delay or not to go, and by the time they do want to go, they can't. I'm going to end with a quote from a YM leader of mine,"It doesn't matter what you want to do until you've gone on a mission because after your mission everythng falls into place!!!!"
You will just have to pray and fast about it!! Hope you chose the right path!! ~Fejj

Well, my youngest brother -- who is older than me -- is sort of delaying his mission. He is sending his papers in but putting his date of avalability later than without one so he can see our second oldest brother when he comes home off his mission. I don't know if this is the same type of thing or not but my oldest brother came home a few days early so he could see the middle brother before he left on his mission.
If you're confused i have three brothers who all are leaving or have left in the same month, same week, basically and the oldest came home a few days early to see the middle one and the youngest is leaving -- if that's when they call him to go -- a week later then he would.
