A sailor is anyone who works on a sailing vassal. It is when they turn to stealing, sinking and killing for their own gain that a sailor turns into a pirate.

A man stood on the bow of the ship. besides his clothing and hair, he was still as a statue. Most of his men called him Stone, not just because of the image he conjures at this moment, but because of how he always was. Tracey had lost his humor, he couldn't stand music, it reminded him of Tai and he didn't smile. If people thought he was taciturn before, he had gotten worse and was extremely hard on anyone responsible for rigging and boson work.

Boson's feared him, but the rest of the crew did not suffer for his behavior. He did not stop music form being played nor did he stop them from having fun when they had time off. No, he left them for the solitude of his quarters, hearing the water like a never ending nightmare. Its waves mocked him, laughing and smashing against his ship reminding him always of what it had taken, handed to them on a silver platter by the Captain Aiden.

That caused the first change in the stoic expression of a once young man, but now aged by the harsh spices of lost and bitterness. His lips raised in a snarl like grimace, Aiden was his reason to live and the reason behind the name of his ship. He would kill that worthless yellow livered dragon beast.

The wind played compassionately with his hair, feeding his sails as it caressed him. To his right, it morbidly played with his sleeve, tugging it like a exuberant child would if they were tugging. Half the somber gold sleeve was empty, no arm nor life besides the wind to give it any shape. With Tortuga in view, he finally moved, turning on his heal and walking forward, almost unseeing for the attention he paid his men, towards the lower decks with heavy steps. This was just one more lead and more glimmer of hope. That hope was a grim, grimy one for it rested at the end with a man's bloody, painful end.

The night in the tavern, Juli had trouble sleeping, which was understandable concidering that her future started within only a few hours. She was up before the sun and killed time at the beach, watching the sun rise and then eating breakfast in the marketplace on her way to the docks.

It was just past sunrise when Juliart appeared on the docks, heading for the ship moored that her new Captain had told her about. She saw the name, Dragon Slayer, and sucked in a deep breath, steeling herself for whatever may come. A strong breeze blew over the water as she walked heavily towards the ship, moving her hair and red bandana like flags. She paused at the gangplank, unsure if she could just board...

The first one to notice her was the first mate, the man was large in muscle and taller then the average man. Everything about him was big, including his smile as he saw a young woman staring at his ship. The Captain mentioned, a rarity, that there was a woman coming to join the ship. Sure it was her, he made his way down the gangplank, heavy of foot and long in strides.

He stopped halfway and called, his baritone voice deep and unmistakable. "Ahoy little lady, what might you be doin' on this end o' the dock?" His sky blue eyes smiled, he was meaning no harm just wanted to hear her answer to be sure. His dark hair, short to his head, flew around a bit but other wise, he was still.

Tracey heard, but did nothing, if she impressed Jarred, his first mate, then she'd find one more protector and a shortage of people who might cause her problems. Instead, he looked over the work of the crew in the rigging, his eyes sharp as an eagle. The slightest mistake, and he thumped the boson on the shoulder so he'd bellow for them to fix it. Roping was his think, knotting his first love, since he could not do it, he put the fear into those that did.

Juliart saw the large man walking down the gangplank and returned his smile with one of her own, "I talked to yer Cap'n las night. I was told tah come aboard this mornin' tah learn abou' the ship an join the crew. Name's Juliart Rosenberg. Juli, fer short." She walked the rest of the way up and held out her hand for him to shake. Though she was confident in her movements, her blue eyes shone with a bit of uncertainty.

The man nodded and gave her a strong handshake with heavily callused hands, "Aye, Lass, I herd. Ferts thing you need ta lern is the hail. When wanting to bored in peace, yer ta say 'ahoy'" Still he grined wide and friendly, more yanking her chain to see what she was made of then anything.

Turning up the plank, he waved to her follow adding, "I am Jarred, first mate and when were at sea, I am the one to talk to first. The Capt'n don't talk very much when were underway." He didn't know anything about the story, no one did, but it was what it was. If she was going to stay abord, he wanted to be sure she didn't mistake the behavior for being snubbed. "So, what skills do you bring?" That was the big question, and he hoped for her sake it has nothing to do with rigging or knotts, another mistory.

Tracey watched closely, listening well to hear what she had to say. It was what he saw and heard that would sway if she stayed when they went underway. Not that he doubted that she would, but everyone had to know it. This was a small ship, only 25 crew members, everyone knew everyone.

Juli smiled. She liked this man. He reminded her of the bartender back home who was like a second father to her. "Ahoy. Got it. I'll be sure tah remember tha' next time so I don't get takin' fer not bein' friendleh." She said, laughing lightly. She followed Jerred up, listening to him and looking around the ship, obviously impressed with it. "Well, as far as work goes, I'm a hard worker. Grew up on eh farm so I cn do heavy liftin and follow orders well. I bin on a boat onleh a coupla times, an don't know a lot a the terms. I learn quick, had ta ta keep up on the farm and in the tavern where I worked." As she spoke, she was observing the ship and the crew working on it. "Well, can't really say more'n tha. The only way I cn prove mehself is ta show yeh." She said, finally dragging her very distracted gaze back to Jerred and grinning at him, "I'll give everythin' I cn, and if it ain't enough, kick meh overboard." She laughed, "Least I cn swim."

The man nodded in approval, the smile never fading. He did look away from her to look to the Captain. With a nod of the head in a direction, the order was taken. Walking over, he picked up a mop and turned to the woman, "Good to know, we'll be sure to kick you of at least in sight distance" He laughed, a big full belly laugh as he tossed her the mop without so much as a warning. Her reflexes were important. "We'll train you as far as you'll learn." He didn't see anything wrong with her, already starting to plan what to teach. Heavily, he walked over the Captain waiting for orders.

Tracey thought about the task he had at hand watched Juli closely. Turning his gaze to Jarred, he told him, "Fighter and gunner if the talent is there." With that command, he went back to watching. He needed loyal and strong fighters. Giving the woman a shot might win the loyalty, he was sure of it. The rest of the crew as loyal but he needed better fighters for what might come down to a land assault. Already the rocking of the ship was upsetting him, though he didn't show it. Just the same unsmiling strong stance.

((I'm assuming he wants her to mop up the deck...))

Juli's hand snapped up and caught the mop with ease, apparently not even noticing it, having got out of reflex. She smiled and snapped her heels together, smiling broadly as she saluted, more for fun than anything, "Aye aye." She said, and held back a giggle. She then set to work, locating the bucket next to where the mop had been. She looked around the deck and picked a spot that seemed less traversed, not wanting to get in the way. She then preceded to mop up the deck, humming to herself.

((hmn, I got an idea for a plot....how do you feel about a rescue mission for the waitress from the tavern? *raises eyebrows*))

A small figure was running across the docks, his tattered shoes, desperately in need of repair or replacement, thudding against the wooden planking. The small boy had auburn hair flying wildly about his head, and half of his face was swollen, a sickly combination of reds and purples, the eye a narrow slit. His other unscathed eye was brown in color, and filled with terror. The small boy of nearly ten years of age gasped and tripped over a rope that way laying in his way. The tears ran fresh as he picked himself up, "Miss Rosenberg! Miss Rosenberg!" He shouted desperately, apparently unsure of which ship she was on.

"Scottie?" Juli raised her eyebrows, pausing in the familiar motions of mopping to look out across the dock, "What on- yeh shouldn' be outta bed, boy! Yer mother must beh worried sick!" She said, walking over to the edge of the deck, "Get back inta bed! Yer not well enough-"

"She's gone!" The boy cried desperately, crumpling into a sobbing heap, "My Mom...they took her!"

Juliart frowned, a knot of concern growing in her stomach. "Wait righ' there." She ordered, putting the mop in the bucket and moving it off to the side to prevent anyone from stepping in it and falling. She quickly moved over to the first mate, "Er, Jerred...I gotta go see what's goin' on with the boy. Looks like he's pretty banged up an' his mother is sorta a friend o' mine..." She looked like she was going to sprint down to the boy with or without permission, but she waited for a moment, not wanting to damage her still shaky position just yet.

((hope you don't mind if I start up the beggining of the side plot))
