Dustin yawned and stretched his wings as he walked through the forest. Normally he would have flown over it but today he had decided to walk through it and see what there was to see.

Lately he had been choosing to walk more than fly now that he had found a place with such a diverse group of others similar to him. He still had yet to meet another winged Soquili but he had seen others brightly colored and in all sizes. Some had butterfly wings, others had bat-like or dragon wings or no wings at all. It was all very interesting to him and the only way he could meet them was if he was on the ground.

Well, the only way he could meet the majority of soquili was to be land born, that was perfectly logical and none would have argued with it but during the summer the depths of the forest weren't the most wise of choices to make. With the majority of the soquili opting to explore the clearings and lakes, they only used the forest edges for shade and thus the forest was empty save for a few individuals who had a reason to hide.

In this particular case, Sparkles did have something to hide. Her hooves falling heavily, muffled by the undergrowth she slowly and tentatively navigated her way through the lower regions of the forest. With help and encouragement from a few rare individuals she had met on her way down, she had only just managed to succeed in getting here. Her orders were simple, she needed to take things easy and to relax - any rapid movements would rip open the wounds.

...An understatement.

Her entire four was mauled and it was not her beauty that held interest now so much as the wounds that invaded her delicate form. With scratches, puncture wounds and unusual bites upon the majority of her body it was a wonder she had survived and even now she was skittish at the mere sound of another.

She was easily unsettled as of late and wanted nothing more to run home and cuddle up in the protective embrace of her father.

Nevertheless, it was with a small sigh that she lifted her head in a stiff manner and took a few moments to look about - so far she had seen nothing but she could hear something faint distance away...

Unaware that the forest wasn't the best place to meet others, Dustin continued on. He was fascinated by what the trees looked like from underneath, as he had only seen them from above. He was almost completely off gaurd and didn't notice that someone else was walking through behind him. Though he could not hear her footsteps anyway since the undergrowth muffled it.

Again, the wind soquili shifted his wings and stretched them out again. His back was getting hot from the weight of his wings. He had not flown all day and so was not used to them being on his back for that length of time.

Was he lost? Her eyes traced along the stallion's form as he seemed to examine the forest canopy. There were no openings large enough for him to take flight so perhaps he was stuck. A caged bird, he wandered aimlessly until he found the edge of the forest or...maybe it was something else? Alas, the mare wasn't entirely certain but it went against her nature (even in this state) to let the stranger walk alone.

Coiling her tail around her rear leg in what appeared to be an act of self-reassurance, she canted her head to the side in yet another stiff moment and cleared her throat. Still sore and dry through a lack of water and her screaming, it would take a while for it to revert to its more soft and enjoyable quality.

"...Praytell, are you lost?"

Startled the red-winged Soquili turned around rather suprised that he hadn't noticed anyone else was around. Looking about he spotted her. It wasn't too hard as she was rather lightly colored and stuck out in the dim light. But there was something not right about her. He wasn't sure what but he sensed something a bit off.

Putting a broad goofy grin on his face he called back. "Naw! Just lookin at the tree's. They look alot different from underneath." he said and gave a chuckle, shifting his wings again to vent his back.

"Really?" Given she had never taken flight before in her life she could neither confirm or deny this observation. In truth, she could only take his word for it and afforded herself a small smile in response. While flying seemed nice, the thought of having the extra weight upon her back was not something she would care to entertain - she preferred how she was or rather, how she had been,

"I suppose, they do...I've never really noticed to be honest," She confessed, maintaining her distance given her somewhat wary nature. While she had been excitable in previous weeks, the events that had transgressed in the last few days had resulted in her being rather less sociable. For a start she was more interested in preventing anyone from seeing her - she didn't look pretty any more...no one should see her.

"Most are usually out enjoying the sun at this time of day, though I suppose with your dark coat it may be a little warm."

"Well, when you fly more than walk you notice things like that. Hence why I am in the forest. I normally would fly over it but today I decided to walk through it." he replied cherrfully.

He noticed that she hadn't made a move closer and seemed more content to stay back. It made him wonder more about her. She sounded polite and gentle enough but her body language was skiddish. "And what about you? Wouldn't you like to be in the sun as well? It is true that also my dark coat keeps me in the shade but with wings it isn't that bad. I can fan myself if I get too warm."

"I..." He had got her there, she positively loved the feel of the sun on her coat as her off white pelt rarely burnt her alive. Instead, it maintained a pleasant temperature and she could basked in the sun all day. People watching was such fun in warm weather, especially if the majority of the soquili were families with excitable children who were driving their parents positively mental!

"I decided that a change of scenery was best for now, I've been feeling a little peeky and the sun gives me headaches," Well it wasn't that big a lie, she had been mauled to bits and the sun would only serve to emphasize the healing wounds. She preferred the cool breeze that drifted through the forest and the shadows that masked her for now...when she was better she would become more sociable again.

Or so she hoped.

"You can bend your wings that far round your head?" SHe enquired, suddenly intrigued.

He chuckled at the thought of his wings actually bending to be able to fan his face. "No, they can't bend that far but I can fan the rest of my body with them. Kinda like this." he said and fluttered his wings a bit. He mainly fan his back out since that was the biggest part of his body that got the most sun.

He had noticed her hesitation at his question even though he didn't act like it. She looked like one that should be in the sun and not in the dark forest all by her lonesome. "The sun gives me headaches sometimes too. Mostly when I fly up too high and it is a particularly sunny day out." he said with a warm smile.

"Even though a change of scenry is nice, I don't really think it is such a good idea for one such as yourself to be out here in the dark forest by yourself. You never know what may happen."

"Oh, I assure you I know what lurks in dark forests," While her tone was soft it gave nothing away in relation to what had happened to her previously. Preferring to keep such secrets to herself, she simply maintained her loose smile and shook her head. The braids whapped delicately against the sides of her neck but all the while it was clear she wasn't prepared to leave the safety of the tress.

"I can take care of myself, this horn isn't just a pretty trinket," She pointed out, deliberately opting to go cross-eyed as she shifted her gaze up towards it briefly and then back down to him. At his demonstration of fanning his own form, she at last saw another benefit to having wings than just to fly - on really warm days that would be a fantastic little feature to have indeed!

"Ah, I always thought those extra limbs would be very heavy on the form...They look nice though. However, I fail to see how flying high would give you a headache...?"

"I can see that it is very sharp and pointy. And I don't doubt that you can take care of yourself. A beauty such as yourself should be able to protect herself." he said and eyed her horn curiously. He had not seen many unicorns but he was suprised by how different thier horns all were, just like like personalities.

He took a slow step forward trying to get a better look at her since she seemed to be in the shadows. He didn't take more than a step, he didn't want to alarm her and send her away. Even though she still was talking calm, she still seemed skiddish.

"My wings are a bit heavy sometimes but they aren't that bad. though having them all my life I wouldn't know what it was like without them. To me a horn would seem heavy on one's head yet you seem to carry it well." he said with a gentle smile, trying to show he would not hurt her.

It had been a black stallion who had hurt her before but the more this one talked the more she was aware that she was safe. As he took a step forward, she stood her ground and gave a slight bow of her head in the process. It wasn't a defensive position, more a move to take the creak from her neck and to emphasise the horn atop her head. In all honesty, her horn was exceptionally light despite its length but he was right in the sense they would never get to experience what one another had.

"It's really not that heavy," She replied gently, maintaining her composure as she continued to watch him, "Unicorn horns are usually much lighter than they look, it's the jewellery humans sometimes place on them that make them heavy." She explained in good humour, well aware of the odd 'things' that soquili sometimes wore and carried.

"...Why do you have string around your hooves?" She asked somewhat flatly after a few moments of thought. It was only now as he came closer that she could see some of what he was 'wearing' and she couldn't fathom why he did so.

He nodded coming to a stop and watched her horn intently as she moved her head. He didn't think it was a defensive move and didn't take it as such. He was glad though that she had not waivered in she stance as he came closer. he was gaining her trust which was goodand so stopped when he did as not to over do it.

"That would be understandable, the jewlery making it heavy I mean. I would be like if someone were to put stuff on my wings. They would be come heavy and I doubt I would be able to fly." he said in understanding and stretched his wings once again before looking at his feet.

He had never really paid much attention to the decorative string around his feet. It had pretty much been there almost all his life considering he had gotten them as a foal from a very unfortunate accident. He admired them for a moment, remembering, before he answered her back. "Well you see they are kind of a reminder of something that happened to me when I was young. It's a rather silly story but I would love to tell you if you want to hear it." he said looking up at her with a smile. It was a stupid accident really and he couldn't help but to give a chuckle at the images that came to mind when he thought about it.

Aha! So he had a story behind them. Canting her head to the side in an inquisitive fashion, the mare allowed her braided mane to trickle across her neck. For the briefest of moments the gouge wounds could be seen as her mane uncovered them before another lock fell forward to mask them. It seemed that even with her form in the shade for the most part there were still tell tale sides of injury.

"I should very much like to hear it," She agreed after a few moments of thought. She had heard of accidents but had rarely found them funny, perhaps this one would be different. After all, she was in a strange land and this wind was in a forest...not flying. Evidently he was very different from those she had previously met for that reason alone.

Besides, she needed a reason to laugh.
