So, I was wondering what productions/musicals are good for high school. Any suggestions?

It really depends on who you have. How many girls, how many boys, how many good singers, how many poor singers, are they skilled in comedy, are they skilled in drama, you get the idea.

I agree with minimarker. It also really depends on what your school can afford. My high school pulled off an amazing version of Les Mis with the help of fundraising, sponsors, sold out shows, extraordinary actors, singers, and in most cases actor/singers. A team attitude within cast and tech is vital for the production's survival as well.

Yes, use what you have. West Side Story is always fun. But if you have a small drama department, try something like Your A Good Man Charlie Brown of maybe Senior Year Survivor

You're A Good Man Charlie Brown worked pretty well at my school too. For larger groups I would suggest Beauty and the Beast. It's actually pretty easy to choreograph and eveyone has fun doing it.

Wow, I haven't been here for awhile. Dx Thanks for the suggestions. As to the question about the students, we have an abundance of girls and many sing very well. I don't know much about the drama department, but from the monologues from the showcase last year, they are very, very good. We just lack guys. D; Loyal, fierce, strong-willed, and big-headed totally awesome.

Zombie prom is great for high schools because it's an easy, minimal set. And it's also a lot of fun!

The key is 'novelty'. Try to look for a production that has not been done by a high school (or anywhere) in years. Reviving a play will get a lot of peoples attention, and it will be a great challenge to your high school.

You're A Good Man Charlie Brown is always a good choice...Cinderella is also great if you have a lot of strong females and not many males. Children of Eden is popular, but you have to have killer singers. Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat is fun as well, especially if you have a lot of interested people but only a few really great people. What ever you do, don't do Guys and Dolls. It's an amazing show, but only when its done really really well, and its done too often terribly.
Hope that helps! smile

DO NOT do another play or musical that some other school is doing, my high school AND a catholic academy both did grease, in the same year.

If you were to go play-wise, you should do Help! I'm Trapped In A High School!
It was loads of fun, very wacky, plenty of roles.
We just did our production last night and we did amazing. Standing ovation. It was awesome.
There's even a musical to it, called Last Chance High.

Grease is good. Les Miserables is pretty good too for drama. West Side Story is not very good.
