Okay, so the night Harry Potter and The Deathly Hallows came out, I was the Walmart midnight party. I was there from sevenish to sfter midnight that night. And from the moment I got there I was totally amazed at all the people who had come for the exact same reason I had. Honeslty, Penguins, it was ridiculous!

Anyway. They way the were doing things, is they were giving out bracelets. [Like, the rubber band kind with saying on them.] in all four house colors and they had the house name on them. And they gave them out house by house. Gryffindor, Slytherin, Ravenclaw, Hufflepuff. In that order. Having a bracelet garunteed that you'd get a spot in line. Not a book. Also, the line went in order in which the bracelets were given out. [ex. Gryffindors would be first in line, then Slytherin...]

Well, Penguins, more poeple showed up, and they still had gotten rid of the Gryffindor bracelets. They hadn't announced where they were going to be giving the books out to the people, so a friend of mine and I followed two Walmart employees around the store until they revealed the secret to us. We were about fourth in line. [yay us!] Anyway, the store never did get rid of the those bracelets, so they started to just them away for free to anyone who wanted the colors, but the order still stayed the same.

The line stretched form the fronts of the store, the whole around the resgistered, out past the McDonalds on the clear other end of the store. And when we looked, people were still lining up, and there was a mad dash of people coming from the outside. And from the moment they brought the books out, I knew that they weren't going to have enough for everyone. And believe me, I was happy once I got my book in my hand, but then there a mad dash to the register so everyone could get home and read. There were even people reading at the registers! It was like a zoo in there.

But by this morning I completely finished my copy and so did mum.
There's my rant for the day.
Such Potter-mania! Yipes!

Its not just a book.

Belittling it like that doesn't make fans feel good. sad

{ i'm not gonna go into a 'OMGZ ITS MORE THAN A BOOK ITS MY LIFEEEE' rant, as I'm not that kind of fan, but. xD }

edit:
it always feels like i'm starting fights in here or being mean. I need to work on how I talk to people. XD

    I wouldn't say it's "just a book"
It's one of the only, actully good pieces of literature today.
A good piece of literature is hard to come by these days, and when you find some, you should treasure it.

What I think is "Insane" is the fact, people don't take the time to READ, or try to understand what literature is.

I understand how fans might feel, but..
There are so many amazing books.. And no one has or will ever make such a commotion about them.

I really like the whole idea of the Harry Potter world, but I find J.K Rowling's style of writing.. terrible, really.

At least those books got kids reading again. xP;

-Agrees-

I liked the HP books well enough..but not enough to make such a fuss.

I started the books really young, and at the time I wasn't in a 'OMG HER WRITING IS TERRIBLE' kind of judging age, which I suppose has made me really bias towards the books. XD

I don't think her last books have been her best, but I was really really happy with Deathly Hallows. :U

I work at a department store, and we didn't have a midnight party or anything like that.
We only got one case of DH, and we still have most of our copies left.

I guess small-town Canadians don't care about Harry Potter?

Stop! Stop! Stop!
Enough. Really, people. I agree, there are a lot of books out there that deserve to be recognized...and yet they aren't. I get it, okay. And I agree.

I also agree that GOOD writing and literature is hard to come by today. I've always believed it. And no one listens to me. Kudos to you for saying it, Fellow Penguin. And thank you. Amen.

But okay....here's the point I wanna make. Go ahead and comment my board. Whatever. But DO NOT belittle the books, or say anything bad about them. I'm not the only fan here in the PPS, and when I EVER brought down something that someone else liked?

if you don't like Harry Potter, then you shouldn't feel the need to post here, honestly. Normally, I'd just let it go...but lovelies, I'm NOT in the mood, and I won't tolerate this. It's wrong, and it's just another prime example of how screwed up the world is.

[Sorry for ranting. Please don't think me a bad person based on this....but you must understand that I feel very strongly about this, and I don't want anyone ruining it for me, or for anyone else.]

You know... I'm going to stick with my 1968 copy of the Sherlock holmes chronicles. And my Lord of the Rings. And King Arthur. >.<

It's amazing how people get all fannish over these things. But I'm with everyone else. It's just a book. Even if I was a big fan of the series, I'd wait until next month to buy a copy when there'll be plenty and no one cares. If you love the books great, but goddamn, that's just craziness.

Glinda, understand I'm not putting down the books. I don't think anyone here meant too, either. We're just stating our opinion that it seems like a bit much fuss over a book. It's not like a movie that will be in theatres three weeks then straight to DVD. It's a book. It will still be on the shelves in three weeks. Three months. Three years. FOREVER. And furthermore, in three months I bet it'd be discounted. *is a really cheap person* gonk

If it's worth it to you to be up past midnight at Wal-mart of all places to be one of the first people to get your hands on it, that's fine. Its your time and your money. But not everyone chooses to do so. That's fine as well.

Hah, try *working* in a bookshop on Harry Potter night. razz It's madness!

We sold more than 150 copies in like 30 minutes. We had to have someone manning the door to stop a mad rush. Despite the rain the queue was down the street and around the corner and some people had even been there since 2pm. >O<

I was on the Unpaid pre orders stand with another girl. We had paid preorders, unpaid preorders and unpaid unordered stands which all went to the till. The bookshop was full all the time from midnight to 1ish by which time everyone had rushed in and gone. We gave out free pens and little books by various authors as well as the occasional voucher and poster, it was very nice. ^^

Unfortunately for us, there's a bar down the street from our shop so we had the occasion drunk coming in and acting like us bookshop staff all PERSONALLY know Harry Potter himself and it's like a complete mystery as to why he isn't there to celebrate the book with us himself in full hogwarts garb.

We also had another drunken man come up to the unpaid preorder stand, he was very obviously drunk and possibly high. I was like "Unpaid preoder?" He rolled his head on his neck and slurred out a yes, I could tell he was drunk but went along with it, so I asked his name and he rolls his head again and says Sharp, pointing to the name on the list. Myself and the other girl are unsure of what to do, so we cross his name off and hand him a book. He begins to amble his way to the till, but then sets off for the door. Luckily we managed to get the attention of the doormen before he happily walked off with a free copy. xD
