In North America, the average manga sells for about $8-10 in the States and about $12-13 in Canada. In Japan, however, it goes for about 400 yen - the equivilant to 1-2 US dollars. Keeping in mind the costs of translation teams, mass production and distribution, among other things, perhaps $8 could be considered reasonable. Still, knowing this, I'm sure fans will be unhappy to know that their $320 collection of 40 manga is worth about 16000 yen in Japan - roughly $48. I find this to be completely unfair, especially to those who spend hundreds on manga alone (such as myself, my collection being comprised of over $650), and think the price should be dropped, at least somewhat.
I started this thread as a sort of test to see what kind of results I got. If this thread proves to be successful, then perhaps I'll post it in more populated areas (such as the A/M/C or possibly other sites). If the thread proves to be even more successful in areas such as that, I might be able to get an official petition going. So, any thoughts?

wow.....reading this made me think about it and I came up with this. Keep in mind I'm canadain. Also all the values are off the top of my head so to keep things simple I estamated everything at a much lower price then I actuly paid (ie I said all manga are $10 while I paid 10 to 16 for alot of them)
Manga

Rounding down the price of each to 10$ including margin for error form free ones $710
Shonen jump
3 years of SJ at about 9 dollars each $324
Anime
Naruto cut dvds 1-3 around $25 each (I was buying these and then found out about the un-cut ones……) Naruto Un-cut box sets 1-2 around $60 each Full metal vol 3 around $25 Rave master 1 around $20 Jo-jo’s bizarre adventure around $15 1/2 off sale G-Gundam 1/2 of the series around $15 another sale Total $250

Sasuke14405 They could atleast drop the price to $5. I was considering a slight price drop such as that myself, perhaps to about $5-6.

korikitsune0 I've always thought that manga seemed expensive... And that's why we have to do something about the prices. I don't know how much a 14-year-old can do... but knowing I can do anything at all is enough to motivate me to take a stand.

takara_treasure umm yep low prices always haha walmart always low prices sweatdrop While it is agreeable Walmart has reasonably low prices, their manga selection is poor (as to be expected from a store other than one who's sole purpose is to sell books, aka a book store) and the books are always ruined because: 1. People don't have enough sense to fold the books back at a sensible distance, and 2. Walmart faces the books forward as opposed to sideways, meaning the books are not being compressed and the bends cannot repair themselves over time.

As a matter of fact, I do this time. Walmart has a horrible selection of manga, and all the manga they do sell are ruined.

I think the prices are really high even for me and I make over $1,000 a week and I still live with my parents (keep in mind I'm 15) and I still can't aford it. I think a reasonable price would be $5 because I'm not rich and I like to own them.
And this is just my opinion but wal mart sucks and I wouldn't buy anime from there unless it was absolutly my only option.
