Tyrent's Weekly Rant Every Saturday I go into my little bubble and just write about all the new features that Gaia has just come out with and I talk a little about my life. Some may be longers than others but I hope that my ranting will give people different opinions or stronger ones. So I'll post them here but if you would like to comment on them or answer the questions that I have in them then go to my journal and place a comment on them. I really encourage you to, because I'll reply to your comment and we can talk about things. I really hope that my weekly rant becomes a big thing on Gaia. Thanks everyone.

Week 1 (7/15/07 - 7/21/07) Welcome to Tyrent's Weekly Rant. I Tyrent will just rant on about all the things going on in my life and most importantly all the new features and cool things that recently came out or have been here for a while. So tune in each Saturday (Pacific Time) and read up on what I say about things. I hope you enjoy what I have to say.

Life
Well life in general is pretty awesome, recently I've been thinking of new things to do on Gaia and what not and I've thought up some cool projects that I'm going to put into affect here soon. But outside of Gaia things I've just been talking with friends and hanging out with my girlfriend a lot. Seeing as I'm in the middle of summer things are getting a lot hotter outside and friends are going to camps and doing family things. While I'm stuck home working on my guild and doing my best to help the other Gaian's on Gaia. So right now I'm wishing school was back in session so I can see all my friends again, and I'm kinda craving homework so it can take my time up. But don't get me wrong, summer is just awesome, yet it can get boring sometimes. Recently I've just been riding my bike around and enjoying the fresh air that the earth provides us. Living in Grants Pass Oregon the air is very clean and pure, there is green everywhere and the people are so nice. Trust me, here there is not much crime at all. We may get a robbery every month or a shooting but that’s it, nothing to serious like other areas around the world. But seeing as it's summer there really isn't anything interesting to tell you about my life, guess this area of the rant is only good for the school time because that is when all the drama kicks in. Haha in school I'm known as the advice provider for my friends so I get all the drama coming to me, that is always interesting. Most of the time the stories are sad but I'm happy that I get a chance to help them out every once in a while. So you guys will probably here some of the drama I get, but I can't tell you who because that would be mean. But the drama in my school is probably the same in every other school around the world, just in a different situation. But I guess that really all I can say about my life. Well there is a little drama going on right now between a couple of my friends with promises and what not. It isn't all that good though, thankfully they aren't fighting. But here is a question you guys can answer for me, "If you made a promise with a big situation, would you keep the promise in time?" And in big situation I mean like life changing. Like making a promise to someone that you would do something, but one or two years later your life is different. Would you still keep the promise? It's a very hard question because some people would think, "Well yes I would keep it because that would be what a good friend would do." but you know others would say, "Well no because it's been one year and things are different so it would be stupid to keep the promise." But in my friends case I told them that they shouldn't keep the promise that they had made, because things are way different. But answer my question, I would like to see the different opinions on it. Other questions that I have been asked about my personal life is like. With me, I like answering questions because it gives me a chance to use my brain in a helping the matter, like right now I'm just ranting and ranting on and my brain is working faster than my fingers so I probably missed a word or two here. XD I'm just stupid sometimes like that. But I mean if you have questions for me just ask and I'll do my best to use my brain and answer them.
My Guild - Royal Casino
Well about a month ago I was pondering about making a guild, I wanted something that no other people had. So I came up with Royal Casino, where everyone is treated like Royalty. So I started working with the idea of, "How to turn this guild into a big hit?" Well I looked around to see what users like the most in the guild, there were many things that I saw that people liked in a guild. But there was a couple things, the design, contests, and a great Moderator Team. So I spent a lot of time on the design in my guild to make it look awesome and have a friendly feel to it (Yet I feel bad for Dial-up users xP). Then I talked with my friend WindowOpener and making graphic signs for the guild, and he went and took his own free time to make the signs and let me say, I think they look awesome. Right now he is in the works of writing a review for my guild, telling me what I need and what I shouldn't have. So I'm covering every aspect of guild design I need to. Then I started to work with the contests aspect, and I knew that I needed two people that I knew could run some really good contests. That is when I chose Blood`Sentinel and LemonWarlord. Both are awesome people who can think of some awesome ideas. Then I had to ponder a lot on the "great Moderator Team" one, I didn't want to start out with a whole moderator team so I came up with the idea that what I have now is good. And to be a moderator on the guild you have to have 1000 posts in the guild, this way I know you love to be active and have fun with the other members. And in my head I think this is going to work. So with all those combined Royal Casino was born. It has not opened yet but it will be opening on 7/22/07 which is tomorrow and I can't wait to start sending all those invites that I have out. So I hope everyone enjoys the guild and has a great time with it.
July Monthly Collectibles
Well this months "Monthly Collectibles" is another 3 items. They were very interesting, I thought they were better than some of the older ones Gaia has come out with. I like the fire flower a lot, just the colors of it make things so bright and filled with life. The one item out of that that I would have to like the most would have to be the Flower Cape inside. It kinda looks like the Royal Capes in a way but flowery. As for the mecha form item, I don't think it is all the entriging really. I mean some people on Gaia like robots and we don't have an item that deals with robots but the mecha form is an "eh" to me. But I do think it is a good item don't get me wrong. As for the music collectible (Violin, Harp) I thought that was great, there are many music fans out there that would love to have that item. To me that item will get the mass appeal for connecting with music so well. Also the background that comes with it is very good, gives people something to look at other than the white plain background. But as for past July items, july 2004 and 2006 have my vote for the best. July 2004 is the item set of the Steel-Plated Ninja Band and Kitsune Mask. The July 2006 set is the Ancient Katana and Elagent Veil. But I have to give the July 2007 item set a 7/10 for my rating. But I've noticed that with time passing on Gaia there has been more items with more abilities, meaning more ways you can equipt them.
Edmund & Von Helson Sisters Quest/storyline
Well recently the Edmind & Von Helson Sisters Quest has just come out, as for me I'm staying away from it. I'm not to big on the quests here on Gaia, they get you event items but you know I'm just never in the mood to do them. As for the storyline of this I don't know either, I'm not a big reader so I didn't read it. Sorry I couldn't rant more about this, but as for the quest. I think it was not so good that they made people actually have to use money to do the quest. They should of made it free, but I'm not sure. Maybe there is going to be something bigger and better in the near future with them.
New Gaia Store
The new Gaia store has just come out and well I don't shop and buy things online but I have to say that there shop is pretty awesome. It is easy to get around and very orginized. It's a great thing that puts a good name to Gaia. I mean if a kidergardener wanted to shop they probably could figure out where things are and that is a good thing, a very good thing.
New Staff Colors
Well the new staff colors just came out and let me say, they look so much better. In the announcement they told us this:Admin (In each forum's "View Forum Moderators page," this area will contain a clickable list of that forum's moderators which will allow you to see a moderator's title and whether they're currently online.) Administrators – Leaders of the Community and Moderator teams. They are responsible primarily for high-level administrative tasks, billing issues, and overseeing Gaia moderation staff. Moderators: There are 3 types of moderators and a group of assistants to help you on Gaia; they represent the Site Assistance Group, the Global Group, and the Account Specialists Group. They are explained below. NOTE: All moderators on Gaia are all the green color you see above and below. All officials at Gaia will also have a specific title under their username specifying their role on Gaia. Anyone without a title underneath their username is NOT an official of Gaia in any way! Omni Moderators – Responsible primarily for account issues, hacking and scamming cases, as well as special projects related to account security, site safety and moderator training. Global Moderators - Responsible for Abuse and Harassment cases, as well as help oversee Terms of Service violations across the entire site. Global Moderators may have other special functions that are specific to a particular role. Site Moderators - Responsible for specific forums on the site, as listed above, handle Terms of Service Violations and thread move requests. These moderators also cover Gaia games, chat rooms, towns, and other features of Gaia. Moderator Assistants (formerly “Helpers”) - Responsible for thread moves only in specific forums they are assigned to. Moderator Assistants DO NOT assist users with Terms of Service violations. Non-Player Characters – A Non-Player Character (example: [NPC] Rina) is an account that is used on Gaia to speak to the public about important and fun topics (like quests and newsletters). Any persons posting with these accounts are Gaia staff but will not be helping you with Terms of Service violations – please contact Gaia Moderators and Administrators for assistance. Artists, Developers and other staff – There are many other people who work hard to make Gaia awesome by creating new features and new art, items and much more for you every day! These people have brown names and may post around the site but will not be able to help with Terms of Service violations – please contact Gaia Moderators and Administrators for assistance.
Now things are going to be easier for old and new members. With the sub-heading under things it tells us what these people do, now we don't have to go by colors. And that helps a lot of the colorblind people, because sometimes they may not have been able to see the colors that well. With this new site update came a lot of new glitches though that nearly attacked Gaia. People were able to post in in announcement threads and now we can't even do little things like change setting for our guilds. So just one little change made a big mess for the Admins. Personaly this will help stop hackings more and people will know who are moderators and who aren't. Also I believe that it was a nice choice of green that they picked, looks very nice around the site. But the new color looks good and I think it will better the site much more.
Gaian Film Festival
Oh wow these films were awesome, some made me laugh hard and some made me cry. I thought that people did a great job with them, some I thought were going but they didn't. Like Peasants video and such, that one was a very good one. The one that I have to give all my props to though would have to be "Lanzer's Basement" that one made me laugh so hard. It was honered with the "Accurate Reporting" award. And I think it totally deserved it. The Film Festival is one of Gaia's best works I think, and a lot of the video's gave people something to do in there free time. But all I can say is great job guys, great job.
Announcing Before Doing
A lot of people are getting annoyed by how Gaia is doing things without an announcement of warning are any such word. Like with the moderator color change, they were warning us it was coming but on the day it came they didn't even warn us that there may be problems. So when they did make the change Gaia was left with many glitches including:
Names went all weird
Guilds un-able to change settings
Allowing people to post in announcement threads
Layering of the site (Things overlaping others
A 30 min shut-down of the site
And many more
Those are just some of the glitches that came with a small change, and a warning would have been cool. The admins need to make sure that everyone is ready, I mean yes people may come in during the process and not read the announcment but it is better than nothing. There were many complaints in the "Site Feedback" forum about how they don't do that, and people are still complaining. But than something changed that I thought was interesting, Gaia warned us about Shops and Gift Credits going down on July 23rd. Here is the message:Admin Early on Monday morning (July 23), we will be doing some site maintenance. Starting at about 7AM Pacific, we'll be closing down Gaia's virtual shops and disabling Gift Credits. Everything else on the site will remain normal-- you will still be able to earn gold, make trades, buy Monthly Collectibles, etc. We hope to have these features back up and running by 1PM Pacific. We apologize for the annoyance and fist-shaking this may cause, but we'll be using the downtime to make some important tweaks. Thanks in advance for your patience!
This was a shock to me because I think they started to take people's advice and that is awesome. The Admins are becoming even more interacted with us. I think if they do this they will become more closer to us, I know that Dri, and Ling are trying their best to interact with us and I have to give them my compliments for that. But I hope Gaia keeps this up, because it will make people really happy if they do.
New Look? New Feel?
Is there going to be a new look coming to Gaia? A new feel? In Lanzer's recent Journal he says this:Lanzer We've been hard at work in building the next site re-design. After Gaia's 4th anniversary, we began working on a new initiative to really improve the look and feel of Gaia. We want to make it more fun, more alive, and more user-friendly. We're getting a lot done, and we'll be sharing some screen shots with everyone soon. The whole project then took a life of its own as we realized that, after four years, we've never really looked at improving many aspects of the site, such as our color scheme. In particular, we've been thinking a lot about Gaia's logo. When our logo was first created, there was no Gaia community. The Gaia logo reflected our vision of what Gaia was at the time, but the community has grown and matured so much since then that it no longer seems appropriate. Gaia was once a website that created a community, but throughout the years it's become a website that is defined by its community. With that in mind, we decided to create a logo that does a better job of reflecting the style and spirit of our members. We wanted something that looked cooler, more unique and more fun. We put in a lot of thought about who we are as a site and as a community, and we came up with something that, in our opinion, really looks the way Gaia feels.   * color is not final, we used red because it's easy to read The UI team will be posting about the new header design later. We'll be collecting feedback at that time. Please let us know what you think!
This is very interesting, the last site re-design was back in June I believe. Hmm I wonder when this one will come, it sounds interesting and looks cool. I really like that new logo, kinda says Gaia doesn't it? One thing that scares me though is the two people in the picture, they look like they came out of Holloween XD. But if a new site-redesign come we are going to have to deal with all the people saying bad comments and other things with it, no one likes change. I mean I didn't like it when Gaia changed to this one but now I love it. I guess it takes time to get used to things, and I'm pretty sure we all will get used to this new site design. As for me I can't wait for it, I always like the new things Gaia does and that's awesome. But these are questions I would like to ask them about the new site-redesign:
Will the background still be white or have a color to it?
Is it going to take away anything?
Is it going to come with new things like the new marketplace?
How do you guys feel about it?
Is it going to be more kid like?
Is it going to be user friendly?
Those are some of the questions I'm asking about it but probably wont get answered seeing as not many people read this I bet. But I'm real excited for it.
Admin increase?
I noticed that the admin team has increased, they just added Noraboo and WhiteJoker. Both of which were last Omni-mods. Well that’s cool, looks like they are increasing a lot, I hope with this new increase there will be less rule breaking and such. I've heard a lot about both of these people, Noraboo was one of the people to go with your account be banned and such. I don't know much about WhiteJoker just that she made a bet with Jokabo back in 04 and Jakabo lost. But I'm glad both these people made it, I bet they deserved the position and I hope they can do wonders with it.
GGN
Well I would like to say that the GGN has a new feature to it but I can't. The GGN has been here for so long and is one of the best places in my mind on Gaia. This is one of Gaia's greatest creation, it allows members to become leaders in there own thing. I don't know of any other site that can do that. I don't think the Admins give it enough credit and attention to it. They can go so far with the GGN, it's one of Gaia's best qualities. Yet they haven't made enhancements in it in a while. Lanzer made this comment on January 1st:Lanzer Thank you everyone for your concerns. We're definitely working on an enhancement to the guild system for the first quarter of 2007, which will include a lot of good UI changes plus useful features. Things are in the planning stages right now but stay tuned for more info! -Lanzer
Hmm that’s weird, there is no enhancements or improvements in the GGN. Did they lie to us? Or are they just neglecting it and focusing more on other things like the battle system and marketplace re-write? Lanzer keeps promising these changes but nothing ever happens. There are many enhancements that Gaian's want in the GGN. In my head, the GGN can make Gaia one of the best places on the net. But I'm going to leave more ranting for next week.
Hackers Getting Smarter
Well the Hackers on Gaia are getting much smarter. Since 03 hackers have been using messages like these:Hacker We are sorry to inform you but your account has been brought to our attention. Your account has been REPORTED and needs to be investigated for further information. Like any other Gaia Moderator, we don’t normally ask for this information but to clear your report we need to. If you fail to cooperate then you agree to these charges and we will take steps in closing your account. You will be asked a few questions to verify that this is your account. Please fill out the information requested. Password: Username: Once your account has been verified that its free of faults, your e-mail provider will be notified when your account investigation is over. We thank you for your patience. If you do not reply in the next 24 hours there will be a 6 month ban. Please do not submit PM reports for swearing, attitude, or issues not covered in the Gaia Online TOS. Additionally, please do not submit this form multiple times for the same PM, abuse this reporting tool, or spam this form with meaningless information. PM: 5247260.09381487
Well this is the old things, now hackers are starting to use links as a way to hack. People lie to you by saying like, "Come vote for me in the arena" or "Please bump my thread" and they have a link leading somewhere. Well the link may or may not be leading to were this person is saying. So can people be trusted anymore? I don't think so, they are disrupting Gaia by there shinangans. So I warn all of you to always check your links. But recently there was one user named "Blackragon" who managed to plant a cookie grabber or something in his marketplace shop and is able to steal your pw by doing that. So whenever you would click his shop he would be able to obtain your password and you would be logged out. This are not safe so that is why full precaution must be taken. Gaia is a fun and amazing place but there is people our there who are trying to make it bad and look bad when it is not. So here are some things you can do to protect yourself:
Make a hard password that only you would know, for example: ti49d2g
Remember your password
Change your password every week or every other week
Always look at where a link is taking you, always
If you think your getting hacked or about to, clear your browser and pm an Omni-mod immediately
Never tell anyone your password, remember mods are colored in green, gold, red, and olive. NOT BLUE or BLACK
Remember to do those things and you should be fine. But don't be scared, still have a great time on Gaia.

My Life
Well in my life things are kinda boring. It's been about a month and a half since I got out of school and I'm ready to go back, I've gotten the break I needed from school and now I'm ready to get hard at work again. But my life will be boring till Aug. 20, that is when marching band starts up. Can't wait for those 9 in the morning to 9 at night practices. That is 2 weeks long so I wont be on Gaia as much anymore from then on because when I get home I'll be so tired. They really kick in the butt and get you working. We lose so much weight it isn't funny (Unless someone doesn't lose weight, than it is kinda funny XD). But that is in 3 week and 2 days (Yes I went a looked it up), but as of right now I'm sitting at home doing nothing. This last week I read both the 6th and 7th Harry Potter Books, and let me say both were good but the last one was awesome. I'll talk about it in my rant here in a little bit. But other than that I've had limited chat with my friends, so I guess I'm kinda friends-sick. I miss them so much, this summer has taken us away from my friends. But this last Tuesday I got to spend the day with my girlfriend which was very fun, we went to Concert In The Parks here in Grants Pass and it was awesome. Each Tuesday a different band plays and it was so fun. But right now I feel like I should hit my head on my desk because I'm tired and bored, I still need to pull out my big projects that I'm doing that are coming up. Which will probably take a lot of my time up. Hmm it just hit my mind, I should start playing my flute, get back and get ready for band. I'm one of the top people in my section so I need to show leadership this year. Oh the joy I'll get when I finally get to play my instrument again. Well nothing much in my life but that's just a little update.
Royal Casino - My Guild
Well this was opening week for my guild and the first day was awesome. Lots of people posted a lot and it was great, then over the travely days it died down and not much chatter but the faithful poeple that were there from the start will still being active, so there active-ness brouhgt others in. Right now I'm worried of lossing members in the Royal Community and family. So I recently just posted this for the members to answer me:[Tyrent] Alright, so I've noticed the guild is semi-active but not where I want it. So I am coming to you members and I want you to tell me what you want in the guild, what you think will make people active. I can tell you guys right now that we are going to start bringing out some fun contest, so you don't have to mention that. But I mean, what else do you guys want, or think will bring people into the guild? Here are some questions from me, that you can answer:
Would you like to see more crew members?
Do you want the mods to be in here more?
Is the guild to your needs? Does it impress you? What should we fix?
Is there something you don't like?
What is one thing you guys want?
As Captain, am I doing good? Bad? Alright?
Would you like me to send more invites to get more people in?
Are to many n00bs in the guild?
Are you please with how things are run?
I'm hoping that with this I will figure out what the members are looking for so I can fix the problem and have more activity in the guild. If this works the guild will rise and be succsesful like I want it too. But until then me and the other mods have the guild are going to have to work hard just to keep things up and going. Harry Potter And The Deathly Hallows
Well the new Harry Potter Book just came out recently and let me tell you it was awesome. I love the book so much, so many cool things happen. But after reading it I'm down that it is going to be the last one, because everyone loves Harry Potter and it was a great book series that will be missed for many years. JK. Rowling did a great job on the book, but in the Epilouge at the end she kinda left things as a mystery. But from what I heard there is going to be something that tells the details of everything that has happend, right now you may be a little confused about what I'm saying but if you just read the book you will catch on. It is so weird because everything in this book was able to connect with the whole series, so while I'm reading it I'm thinking about how in the world she connnected it so well. I mean pieces in the last book made you go "ah" to something that happend in the first book. I mean there is one thing in the 7th book that happend at the begining of the 1st book and you start thinking, "Did she brainstorm all the books before she started writing them?" because that is how it seems. Everything was fit together so well, it was amazing and I loved it. JK. Rowing is a genius for what she has down, I with she would never had stopped writing because her books will be lengend. Kudos to you JK. Rowing and Good-Bye to the Series Harry Potter.
Gaia Cash
Well Gaia Cash has just recently came out and it is an interesting system I must say. The Admins made a system that allows them to gain much more gold so that must mean that want to do more but need more money to do that. Oh that sounds good to me, can't wait to see what it is. But this is the message we had recieved:Admin Hey! Take a look at the upper right corner of your screen, next to where your Gold is displayed. See that new number? It's your Gaia Cash, the new replacement for the old Gift Credit system. As a little "thank you" to our loyal members, we've given every active Gaian a small introductory balance of Gaia Cash. (If you already had Gift Credits in your account, you may have noticed that the number up there is much smaller. Don't worry! You're rich! Read on for more info.) After a lot of debate and economic tweaking, we decided to phase out Gift Credits and create a new currency that would be much more valuable and versatile. Here are a few of the benefits: You can use it to buy shop items AND Monthly Collectibles, whereas Gift Credits could only be used in the shops. The value of Gaia Cash is much higher than Gift Credits. We didn't feel that Gift Credits were a good enough deal, so Gaia Cash will get you about three times as much value for every dollar. We introduced a promotional code system along with Gaia Cash that will allow us to do some massively cool stuff. These codes can be given out during special promotions (conventions, contests or whatever) and redeemed for Gold, items, Gaia Cash or just about anything else. Neat! For now, Gaia Cash is just a cool new way to get a good value for your money. But in the future, we'll be able to do boundlessly cool stuff with it. What are you waiting for? This is going to give Gaia a lot of money to produce more things, as for me I'm not going to particapate in this because I don't send money to Gaia just yet. I don't have a credit card and such so I can't. But we are going to start having a lot of rich people her on Gaia here soon.
Glitch Centeral
Well this last week Gaia has been glitching up majorly. Today pms, posts and guilds were down for over 6 hours and that made a lot of people mad. I wonder what caused this whole glitch, maybe the battle system or the new marketplace is coming out. I'm not sure but either of those would be awesome. I'm not sure but I think we were glitching sometime in the last week like monday or tuesday, one of those days. There was no announcement or warning about this whole glitch so it must have been un-expected, but it was for all the gaian's I can say that.
GGN
Well another rant about the GGN. In these last couple of glitches the GGN has been affected by them, for the past week we weren't able to change out "Guild Settings" at all that had many conflicts in it. Many people were worried that they couldn't change things but just a couple of days ago they were able to get it fixed. Good job Admins for your hard work on that. Then today the GGN was hit again, we couldn't post anything in our guilds or any guild of that matter for over 6 hours. The GGN has been getting affected a lot lately, maybe they are finally going to do the improvment in them that they had promised at the beggining of the year. Well I person can only wish for that and I hope our wish comes true. The GGN is one of the best features on Gaia and should be enhanced for better proformance. Here are some things I wish they would enhance in the GGN:
Be able to access the "Guild Account"
Be able to send one pm to every member of the guild
Some of the buttons are old buttons, so have them updated
Those are the three most important things, but they can do so much with the GGN. There are some stuff I would like to take to your attention but maybe a later time.----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Well this weeks rant wasen't as big as the last one but there was less news this week.
