Internet dating is pointless and hopeless... Why? Because the person you're talking to can just as easily lie about themself, it leads only to great pain in the end when you long for someone you can't have if it's a long-distance relationship (Oftentimes it is on the Internet. You know what they say: Long-distance relationships never work!), you might find out that the special someone in question is not what you thought they were really like, you don't know if they're seriously commited and loyal, and you don't know what they do behind your back. stressed Internet dating is an absolutely hopeless/pointless way of meeting someone for reasons of romance, and we all need to stop lying to ourselves by pretending it actually works. neutral Discuss Internet dating and what you think about it.

Actually, internet dating can work. Can work. One of my old friends knew someone who married a guy she met on the internet. Last I heard, they were expecting a second child. Secondly, I doubt all of us are lying to ourselves. I'm not. I've been in an internet relationship before and it lasted eight months. The guy lived in Florida. We fell apart in the end because he didn't like the fact that it was long distance, and I was getting worried because he disappeared for a month and didn't bother to explain why. I know what you're talking about. But seriously, if you're gonna be such a downer about it, why are you even in this guild? Why on earth did you sign up? neutral

I agree with Rheebus. There is a possibility of it working out.

I only even TRY to attempt it if the person lives in the same city/state as me. There HAS to be some physical interaction with the person, at least for me.

The Disposable Soul I only even TRY to attempt it if the person lives in the same city/state as me. There HAS to be some physical interaction with the person, at least for me. That's my whole point... I never find anyone in my area, and I never find anyone I can relate to in person. Being shy doesn't help either. sad

Internet dating can definitely work if both parties want it to. I was in a LDR for 5 months, and before that we were best friends for a year. She had some problems in real life and decided to go behind my back and get a boyfriend in real life. It crushed me, but I realize she just was not who I thought she was. So, yeah, it can do what you said, but it can also be magnificent as it allows shy individuals to get to know one another a great amount. After they allow themselves to become close, it makes it easier for them to mesh.

Marine Commandant I can't help being shy! It's how I am! gonk It's how I am too! But the best way to go about it is a simple, "Hi, how are you?" 3nodding Post in threads to chat with some of the other members. You'll either find someone or you'll make great friends. 3nodding

Ok for the record it's really insulting that you would just come on and say that it doesn't work period...No matter how little luck you have or havent had on here, They do work because i see that most of the people who find someone on here, yes they may come back in 1-3 months sometimes some come back and say that they have found someone who they enjoy being with, maybe it's not you're thing, but don't just say it's pointless, because i know 3 people I am friends with in real life that have LDR going(the reason i don't have one in real life lol) but don't claim it as the majority. It does work.....you may have just not found someone who has found you yet.. Hikari

where theres a will theres a way. Mine lasted for 5 years and it ended because ithink she died and kinda predicted it. most likely cancer. Never felt so broken until now when the world turned its back on me. Even my parents but whao off topic. Basically if you want it to work make it work. Don't rush s**t take things slow dont ask someone out so soon

i think that if you are commited to somthing... or someone... anything can happen. i personally am not a fan of online relationships, but i have seen them make my friends happy and i have seen them make my friends sad... just like real life relationships.
