I've been playing on an old used Danelectro for over three years and it doesn't really work well with the music I like to play on electric so I've been considering getting a new one.
My limit is about $900 tops and I play somewhat violently so I'd prefer something that can take a beating.

Suggestions would be wonderfully appreciated.

well gibsons and schecters are always good for heavy rock sounds and really reliable. and since your price range goes all the way up to 900 you can definitely afford them

Thanks. I would ask the people at our local guitar store but they're overly focused on acoustic. Luckily enough, the limited range of electric they sell includes Schecter. I guess it's time to start reading up.

I'd go with Ibanez smile

Jackson or Schecters
OR
Deans (wouldn't recommend them though)

They have some really badass pickups to them.
Seymour Duncans are really good for heavy stuff.

Great Tone would be Gibsons, Ephiphones, Ibanez.

Just find a Guitar Body that you find comfortable holding.

All I have to say though, you couldn't go wrong with a Schecter. Seems that they are coming very popular.

Well, my questions are:

#1: what kind of music do you play?

#2: Are you willing to check online?

Ibanez, Jackson, or Gibson is the way to go. I play Ibanez, but I wouldn't mind getting my hand on a SLSMG with a N-T-B design. I played it at a local shop, and I loved it. The N-T-B gives it an amazing deeper tone. But they're about Fourteen-hundred. The one I played was only like, 700 but It might have been used, I'm not sure.

But don't buy online unless you've played the guitar. . . I can't stress that enough.

First off, I don't recommend the Flying V, simply because you can't easily play it while sitting down, because of the shape. But the guitar that everyone seems to be getting lately is the Squire with the Cello design. I believe they call it a semi-acoustic. But Warlocks are also badass..... looking. I have no idea about most guitars with preformance, but I do know that Fender and Gibson are two of the oldest electric brands out there and I'm sure they're some of the best.

But as others here have said: Find one that you feel comfortable with. But I'd also like to add that fashion has a bit to do with it. Don't get some wierd ugly thing like a pink or bright yellow fender strat. But take my advice: don't get a telecaster! They sound crappy, and look crappy. But otherwise, just go with your gut

Just because they're old doesn't mean they're the best. I'd easily pick a Dean over a Fender. For looks and performance purposes. Plus, a decent Gibson is out of their price range, unless you get like an SG or something, and I believe Epiphones are garbage.

Seeing your statement that you "play violently" I'm assuming you are into the heavier side of guitar playing. For that, I'd go with either Jackson or Schecter. They're very reliable guitars, and great for that style.

Specifically, I'd go with Schecter, because their prices never go very high.
There's a Jackson Soloist in my music shop that's going for $2,000 USD, and I don't think any of the Schecters break the $1,000 mark.

you can't go wrong with Gibsons

Go to the carvin website and custom design your own kick a** guitar for a little under a thousand. From what I hear these guitars kick more a** than Paul Reed Smith guitars.
