He was sticking around the shore. It had been a few days since Angathi met the two Land-ers.... they weren't too bad, he guessed. If someone didn't know any better, it could be said that the old Knight was maybe a little happy?
Angathi soared over the water, but allowed his hooves to leave trails in the water.... nevermind this created more drag and he had to flops in the water, gain speed, and then glide, more often... it was fun and curse anyone who would try to interrupt it.
"La de de daaah..." Angathi sung a lullaby as he played, remembering a song his mother - long forgotten - used to sing to him.

Pakpao lounged on her rock, lazily watching the seaweed and shells on the ground float and wave about with the current. It was a peaceful day, a quiet day. The perfect day for a Kelpi like herself.
Yawning, she turned and watched the bubbles float up towards the surface, her dark eyes looking at the sunlit sky. She didn't know what the big deal was about land and all that air. Everything she needed was right here, underwater.

Angathi wasn't paying attention to where he was going. So as he sang his lullaby to himself, the Knight's hooves caught on the rock and something.... soft.
With a squeal of distress, the distracted stallion tumbled over a resting kelpi... and splashed unceremoniously into the water on the other side.
Sputtering, with mouthfuls of water, seaweed, and shells, Angathi emerged and looked around, "For crying out loud, WATCH WHERE YOU'RE GOING!!!" He had already yelled when he caught sight of the mare kelpi.
With a scowl, Angathi looked at her accusingly... as if she had moved in his way to make him look like a fool. Most likely, just so she could cluck her tongue and tell him how unresponsible he was being... and then try to make him feel better by saying it was just his youth and he'd grow out of it. Mares were so confusing!

Her eyes, distracted with gazing upward, seemingly missed the horrible stallion who rudely decided to use her as a stepping stone, and the kelpi mare shrieked in surprise as she felt the heavy weight of the stranger step upon her, launch himself over her, and tumble onto the ground beside her.
Her head was spinning, mostly out of confusion, and her ears barely made out the yelling and fussing this white and blue stallion was saying.
"ME watch out?!" she screeched back at him, struggling up to her hooves. "YOU were the one who stepped on me to begin with! I was there FIRST!"
The colorful kelpi growled, angry at not only this invasion of her territory, but the thoughtless ignorance of her existance! I mean, who in the world could have missed spotting such a creature as herself?!

"First... first..." Angathi shook his head, "Who came first, the fish or the egg? For if the fish came first, then where did it come from? If the egg came first, who made it? What does it matter first or second?" He drolled on about some random thing as he rolled his eyes and looked to the horizon for answers.
"It all comes down too..." The stallion turned his gaze onto the mare, "you were in my way!" His voice had a distinctive whine to it. "You know, that isn't NICE! Didn't your parents or your Merlocks teach you anything about manners? Maybe not, since you seem to not even be able to take the responsibility for your own actions."

Having finally managed to gain her balance once again, the kelpi found herself angrier than ever before. What right did this stallion have to talk to her like this? After all, this was her territory!
"Well maybe you were going the WRONG way!" she fussed back, taking a few steps forward as she stepped over the rock and stopped when his face was merely inches from her own. "Nice doesn't matter. Nice doesn't protect you from getting the kelp beaten out of you!"
Her eyes narrowed, as her glaring continued. "AND, for your information, the only things those horrid Merlocks taught me was to be anything BUT nice!"

Angathi waited, and when the mare put her face in front of his, he had memories of the past. It was commong for Knights in training to duel, but they were always in fun and for training. But how did you commonly confront them? Why... by getting in their face and taunting them.
Three things this mare did wrong: one, she yelled at him and then got in face - not to mention the threat of a beating; two, she got right into his face; and three, she taunted him.
By saying 'mean' things about the Merlocks, the very ones that Angathi had sworn to protect... why, that was the greatest insult and best way to goad him to a duel.
"Very well," the stallion mumbled, his eyes glazed over in memory. "I ACCEPT!"
Without another warning, Angathi lunged forward and grabbed onto the mare. He was careful to avoid her with his horn - for she was not graced with one for herself... and that would have been an unfair advantage to him. But, the Knight used everything else. He used his neck to keep her in a direction he could control. His hooves were used to tangle her own up. Angathi used his tail to try and confused her; and his fins to keep them both under water where there wasn't the discontent of water and air.
The whole time, he wore a smile, enjoying the exercise... one he hadn't enjoyed since he was still a Knight-in-training.

Her eyes widened as he boldy shouted and then lunged at her. Not having expected that sort of reaction out of the stallion, Pakpao was taken aback, and found herself once again flailing underneath the heavy weight of the stallion above her. He was confusing her with all of his movements, his method of attack, and all she could do was continue to screech and flail about.
"GET OFF OF MEEEEEEEE!" she screamed, attempting to lash out and snap at him with her flat teeth. She didn't know what had possessed this sort of reaction out of the stallion, but whatever it was, there was certainly SOMETHING wrong with him!

Angathi was enjoying himself. He parried with his body and attacked with his foot. A twist here, a lunge there; and staying as close as possible to give her the least amount of moving room possible. That was the training they taught.
As the mare screeched and screamed, the stallion could only smile and redouble his efforts. The end of the game was either when one announced they were defeated, or you pinned your opponent in a way that they could not move to defend or attack.
The other kelpi snapped out with her teeth. Angathi frowned and spoke through his controlled breathing to save energy, "No. Fair! No. Biting!" The stallion tried to curl around her, to pin the mare to the nearby rock.

Grunting, Pakpao continued to flail and squirm, unable to free herself from his strong hold. For once in her life, she was envious that she didn't have fins on her side to help aid her in her attempt to escape.
After hearing him demand that she stop her biting attempts, the beta-colored mare put more effort into using her teeth to fight back against this opponent. She'd show HIM who was boss around these waters!
Her eyes darting back and forth, Pakpao noticed the large boulder they were headed towards. Was he planning on trying to squish her?!

The other Kelpi got a well-placed bite in. Angathi squeeked and with a snarl, literally jumped out of the water. It wasn't his intention, but they were closer to the rock. With his jump, the stallion was able to land lightly onto the boulder. Her growled a little under his breath, as he braced himself and pointed his horn directly at the mare defensively.
"Fine, enough! But I will not tolerate such harsh words directed at the Merlocks!" Angathi said slowly. He had accepted the duel, and after he had explicitly said that biting wasn't allowed, she continued to anyways... and completely disregarded the rules of engagement. So, his own temper flaring.... the stallion had broke it off.
Angathi was huffing, but it was emotion and not from exersion that was the cause.

Gaining her own balance once again, Pakpao's eyes widened and she took a step back, eyeing the large horn pointed directly towards her. She hadn't been able to figure out if his tackle attack had been a true fight or something spurred by a silly nature, similar to the most recent kelpi stallion she'd run across. It was obvious, now, that even had this stallion been in a jolly sort of mood to begin with, all fun and games were over with.
"Harsh words?" she hissed back, her eyes narrowing as her mind finally set in with what he said. "HARSH words? I'll tell you what's harsh... nearly losing an eye, and even possibly MORE to those... those... monsters!"
The step that had pushed her backwards now pushed her forward, uncaring where the sharp dagger jutting from his forehead was aimed. "The day I'll be nice to those Merlocks will be the day I regain all the respect I lost to myself, thanks to their doings!"

Angathi stood, and his body shook with anger.... but he didn't want the mare to stop. He wanted to hear her story, no matter how blasphemis it may sound to him. The Knight would owe her, another Kelpi, at least that much. He had never thought of Merlocks as monsters, so to hear that being bantered around was.... stunning.
"What happened?" the stallion asked through clenched teeth. He didn't want to lead her to any particular way, just wanted to get her story. The Knight did not lower his horn, for at that moment he did not trust her. Kelpi though she may be, she did not act as such.... and may not have the same opinion he had on not intending harm onto another Kelpi. Angathi, for one, was not going to allow her to just.... try and kill him. He was simply being cautious, and his training was brought to the surface of his mind. Observe. Ask. Remember.

"I'm not a threat, if that's what you're concerned about." she commented dryly, her eyes never leaving his gleaming red horn. "I was never good enough to be a Knight's steed, unlike you, who obviously was. No training, no fighting skills. You've got the upperhand in this situation, so you may as well quit pointing that thing around before I do lose my eye."
Her gruff attitude had wasted no time in returning, as the memories resurfaced into her mind with his questioning. He had no right to know of her past... stupid Knight and Steed. Where was his Knight anyways? Weren't they supposed to be inseperable or whatever?
"I, as you can well see, was not born to be fit enough to join the ranks of the Knights. I was born a freak, and that's how I'll die. A freak in the eyes of you and every other Merlock and Knight who's gazed upon me."

"I will decide if you are a threat or not, miss!" Angathi grumbled. He had been through too much... simply too much... to let his guard down. She may not be equipped with a similar horn but she still had hard hooves, a thick tail, and teeth that he was already well-acquainted with.
"You direct appearance should not have harmed your chances that much. A Knight is more than just one who can fight and protect themselves and others.... it is a mindset, a training of the ethics and morals...." Angathi truly didn't see anything wrong with her. She was a Kelpi, and a very good looking one by standards. Not like he had had much work with females. He and his Knight were always too busy to court.
"Maybe it was not your looks that a Knight looked at you funny about, but your manner." The stallion sighed, horn still poised. "Not everyone is out to drive you away or poke out your eye." He did move his horn a little... so it was aimed at her chest and not her head. Of course, it made looking at her slightly awkward.... but well worth it to be safe.
