im currently in progress of getting the island i wanted to know how some people got it or are trying to get it, and how long it toke them.

You need 900,000,000 gold and he'll show up
at the beginning of every season if you have that amount.
You need to either have that much or more.

Okay, you can cheat or you can work your way towards it. I cheated just because it's easier and I like easy. 3nodding
To cheat or not to cheat...
To Cheat: Hire the fishing team to fish on the beach. There is a chance that you can get 1 billion gold in one day. It won't happen everyday and you can't get more than one billion gold. If you hold onto at least 900 million by the first of the next season (which I myself found hard), Thomas will come and offer you the island.
Not to Cheat: Lots and lots of Yams. Grow them wherever and whenever you can. Try to get the sword to break the rocks and plant them behind the waterfall. Put them in all of your basements. Fill your land with them during Fall. Seriously. Those things are God's (or rather The Goddess') gift to man.

I was way too cheap to get the island. Hell, I was too cheap to build a pond so I could marry Leia. o_o
I am now contemplating going back and trying that fishing trick, though.
