What is smoking and why are people smoking tobacco anyways? Since around the 19th century, the tribes invented it (What I think so far,) so it's the way to treat other tribes or outsiders that they will agree to their alliance, they can't do it unless they smoke to show proof, only the chief of the tribe may smoke.

As time passed, the English people invented tobacco like the one Indians made but only to smoke because it's healthy.

Perhaps it is to show other people that it can also protect them from certain colds or other sickness. It shows that smoking is starting to show popularaty so other people buy them, and as time passes on, more and more people started smoking too!

But what they didn't know is that smoking can cause caner and spending their cash on those just to smoke for more. However, when a research was made, they discovered that it can do more harm then that, but can cause other people to be infected too! Even non smokers are more likely to get these.

Today though, people are starting to realized that smoking can take their lives away. They tried, but they can't quit. They tried the products, but sometimes those doesn't work. It get's worst, I saw my mathew smokes and he's sixteen! Belive it or not, some teens forced other teens who don't smoke are more likely to get addicted. My dad quit smoking ever since we were born! But about a month ago, he grabed the pack of cigs and he said to us,

I don't smoke, I'm using them to ward of bugs, and I'll blow it, not suck it.

But he didn't know and now he starts to smoke again! This is getting out of hand and in order to prevent it. People should not smoke! What do you think about that?

Hmm, its a very tricky subject smoking. Inherently people assume it to be bad because there are poisons like Formaldehyde, Arsenic, and a whole bunch of other things. Yes very bad for you. Now then what most don't know is that it is bad for you because of the additives put into cigarettes and Cigars made by corporations. Not because of the tobacco that you Kala Qualas seem to decry. Even before the Europeans came to the New World and started the big tobacco business they had a lower life expectancy than the Natives and the Native Americans were smoking like crazy to ward of spirits and sickness. The case of tobacco is the same case as Coca and Opium. Coca being the prime ingredient for Cocaine and Crack Cocaine, and Opium being the main product for Heroin and Morphine. The relation between all of them? The way they become poisonous to our health is when they have products like Arsenic added to them. Other than that Opium, Coca, and Tobacco are harmless.

Just like Coca and Opium, Tobacco gets a bad rap. Quite literally pure tobacco without the poisons that big companies put in is nearly harmless and can actually contribute to living longer. In Cuba the capital of cigars, the people have a higher life expectancy than Americans and Europeans and most Cubans smoke one or two cigars a day from the tobacco picked from their own fields. Not from a major company which puts addictive additives in their products. In fact my great great grandmother in Colombia would smoke only from tobacco from her fields and ended up dying at the age of 106, with absolutely no lung cancer and no ocular defects from smoke exposure.

Also unlike what most people believe, coffee is also poisonous to your health. Next to alcohol it is the second largest contributer to liver cancer in America, and is more acute in women over men. This is caused also by the things added into coffee made by big companies bent on getting you hooked and buying again and again until you die. Now go to Colombia or Venezuela and those people are living past 80 drinking coffee and smoking tobacco. The only difference is this; one comes from the land, the other comes from a factory with a whole bunch of good stuff added into it to make you addicted. That's my spill on Tobacco.

Random fact: Cigs today are far more toxic and addictive then they were 60 years ago.

Yoko is right.

Also, I'd like to point out that teens who smoke are nothing more than stupid and they aren't forced to, they choose to.

However, smoking cigarettes can help with some things (even the poisoness ones)

Smoking is like a drug, like some people might think. It gets to you like an addiction you cannot let go. They don't care if it ruins their lungs, they want that fullfilment of a cigar in their mouth. But like my dad says, it isn't easy to quit, so you try to find some help to get rid of that addiction and stop hurting the people around you. My father has been off of smoking for 3 years now, and now he himself finds it disgusting. Funny...

Personally I don't smoke and I don't care if you smoke, your life your decisions... just don't smoke near me because second hand smoke is worse than mainstream smoke...

Listen to my story.

Smoking is like WoW. You play it, you like it, you stop. You find out later that you have a VERY BIG URGE to play again. You level up(get used to it in terms of smoking). Then you like it soooo much you just want to play even more and keep leveling up. You make friends. Those friends play with you because you look cool. They only like you for that.

You age. Your eyes blister. Your education diminished. Your relationships destroyed.

What do you have to relieve yourself?

The fact that you just reached lvl 70 and now you have nothing to do. You cry. You cry out on the fact that you're soooo bored. Your friends have left you. What happened? Got no one to hang out with? That WoW made them go away. You played it too much.

You wither as your age slips away. You are only 56 and already dying. You look back at what could have been. Your tearducts are sore and dried out from overusage. You take one last breath.....

And start dreaming.

Are those dreams happy?

You decide.

Smoking is bad, I don't care if it is pure tobaco or the american made stuff, it doesn't help you in anyway except mentally for a short amount of time. I don't smoke but I can understand why some people do. For older people when they started it was cool and most of the problems hadn't been discovered. They smoke for a while and then find out it kills them. They try to stop but can't, they are addicted and it is unbelievably hard to break something like that. For kids its mainly the kids who are stupid in the first place. They could be having good grades and even know it is bad but peer pressure gets to them. Peer pressure is an unbelievable force. It effects everyone from school children to whole nations (cold war). They get drawn in and eventually can't stop even if they want to. Kids are also drawn in by their parents who are ignorant and don't care if their kids do it. Those are the kids who tend to start the peer pressure. Oh, and don't bring WoW into this, it is nowhere close to the level of addiction that cigs have.

You're argument Manderson is that smoking is bad based on what? It has been already well known what the difference between the people that get their cigs from their plantations as opposed to those who get them from a store is quite large. In Cuba alone their average age of death is near 86, ours is only in the 70s, I don't remember what the exact number is. However the Cuban people all smoke the tobacco and they are still outliving those of us who don't smoke. Its a plant, and just like Vapo rub is inhaled to help you so is tobacco. Where anywhere other than from studies made on company made tobacco products does it show that it is deadly? Tobacco in its pure form is about as addictive as marijuana which, if you didn't know, is not addictive at all. Just like marijuana, opium, and coca, tobacco can be used medically and has been used by native tribes for hundreds of years and have always had longer life expectancies than Europeans and Americans. Look up the facts and get it right. And an addiction is an addiction no matter if its WoW or an additive pumped cigarette.

I find the relationship between cuba and america's life expectancy to be flawed in the relation of smoking. Yes, cuba may have a higher life expectancy than america but is that a direct cause of smoking "pure" tobacco. Also does everyone in cuba smoke tobbaco and in that percentage that do how many of them have this "pure stuff". Also the life expectancy in america isn't only drawn from smoking it is from obesity and other things that the fattest country on this green earth has. As for the fact that native tribes have been using it has been used for years for medicinal purpouses, like mj. Well isn't MJ used less for healing and more for taking away the terrible pain, which by the way many people oppose to doing. The native tribes also believed many things that have been proven false, it could be that they were just wrong. By the way I can believe that "pure" tobbaco isn't as bad for you as the corperate stuff but I find it hard to believe that it would extend your lifespan. Oh and the reason I put that comment about wow in is because boy was being completely irrational. The situation he presented had a very small percentage of truth. Most people that are like that didn't have many friends to begin with. While smoking no matter how you were ends up the same with you "crying in your room because you lost your friends."

I don't smoke currently, but I can't say that I won't smoke in the future. While everyone's on the smoking-kills thing, I sit here wondering, "Well hmmm, marijuana's illegal, so is cocaine, so is heroin. Yet everyone's talking about the dangers of cigarettes and alcohol....and yet these are totally legal in the US."

That makes me think, shouldn't those substances be illegal or should we legalize the illegal substances and show public service announcements about how dangerous they are? rolleyes
