The love for a horse is just as complicated as the love for another human being, if you never love a horse, you'll never understand.

What kind of music do you guys dance too in your contemporary and/or lyrical classes?

We dance for laughter, we dance for tears, we dance for madness, we dance for fears, we dance for hopes, we dance for screams, we are the dancers, we create the dreams!

I've taken lyrical for three years, and every year we warm up with Tori Amos' Pretty Good Year. A lot of her other songs are used for across the floors too. She just has the perfect type of music for that stuff.
But for recitals we started with La Isla Bonita by Madonna, last year we did Incomplete by the Backstreet Boys, and this year we did You'll Be In My Heart from Tarzan.

This year for our lyrical dance, we did "When I Look to the Sky" by someone-or-other, and our Modern was "Can't Make it Good" by Chantal Kreviazuk and Raine something or other (the guy from Our Lady Peace).

My lyrical solo for this year's gonna be "Brighter than Sunshine" by Aqualung, and our group modern is probably going to be something by Criss Angel.

In my class, our Lyrical music varies from Jack Johnson to Our Lady Peace to really flowy stuff to sad stuff to strong powerful stuff. Our Modern music is usually underground sounding and usually pretty creepy.

I love it all. =]

In my contemporary class we dance to soo much. Pretty much anything that has a good beat. Some are faster some are slower. We also dance to more slower flowy music for plies

in dance class, we dance to all kinds....

but for choreographing my own contemporary dances, i've found that the boys like girls cd is awesome!!! it's a little rock, but can be great for modern!! you know the band that does "the great escape"?? that's boys like girls. and the other songs have some true meaning, like "dance hall drug" which talks about kids growing up too fast. and "on top of the world" is about the lead singers mother who died of cancer.

check this cd out!! i have great combinations/dances to dance hall drug, thunder, on top of the world, five minutes to midnight, and heels over head.

also, some justin timberlake songs, like 'another song over again,' can be pretty soulful lyrical dances.

mika, the guy who did 'grace kelley' has some good ones that i have dances to like 'any other world' 'happy ending' 'love today' (featured on so you think you can dance, however, i came up with a combination BEFORE it was on the show) and 'lollypop' (however, this song contains an innuendo not friendly with most audiences with young children) but it's a nice song and i like it!

you've just gotta listen to new music that no one else listens to! indie music is really good....for dance. try to stay away from hits, especially when performing in front of non-dancers, cause it's popularity takes away from the dance and you. have fun!! (don't know why i said that, but that's how i usually end, it's a nice way to say bye)

We dance to whatever song, depends on what type of dance. Last year we danced to "Karma" and it was a really powerful and energtic dance, and for our concert this year we're dancing to "Samson" by Regina Spektor, which is much more lyrical and emotional.
