A steam pipe burst in midtown Manhattan during rush hour Wednesday. At Least One person died and 30 Injured. The mayor said the 24-foot steam pipe, which was installed in 1924, likely exploded when a burst of cold water got into the pipe. Emergency crews were on the scene as steam and mud shot more than 20 stories from a gaping hole in the ground. It took more than 250 firefighters about three hours to control the scene. Those were the facts I could recover. Here are astonishing pictures of the scene: (I think that picture #2 really shows how massive the blast was.)

-Do you think the mayor will make other choices like replacing the pipes?
-What do you think the publics reaction was, relating to the 9/11 attack?
-How long do you think the talk about this will go on?

wow... i hope the mayor will chose to replace the pipe!!! and check if other old pipes need replacing... that is just too dangerous... i hope people all over will do the same thing... i dont think that this has much to do with the 9/11 incedent so i'm not sure why you brought it up... maybe some people might think.. "terrorist put the cold water in the pipe!!! there out to get us!!!!" personally, i dont think thats what happened... but i don't know for sure... all i can do is guess at this point.. i dont know much about it besides what you told me so yah... i think talk about this will go on for a while but its not going to be as big as a lot of other things in my opinion... because pipes break...

Just remember, If the world didn't suck...
No what I was referring to about the 9/11 was that I read an article about it reminding ppl of the 9/11 attach with the steam and smoke and frightening events. Not about the terrorists part of it.
We would all fall off!!

I hope they check/replace the other pipes, but in a city that size, and the near impossibility of taking sections of the city utilities off line, not to mention the cost, I wager they will make contingency plans, but no real work will be done to avoid this in the future. And yes, with the sound of the explosion, the steam, dust, etc, I'll bet many, many people thought it was another 9/11. I also wager the Mayor et al will try to get the subject changed as quickly as possible.

I personally don't think they will replace all the pipes until the other ones blow out too. I think they'll only replace the ones that blow out. Also, I don't think they Mayor will do anything because, common, face it, since when did the government do anything right? I don't think the government will talk about it alot, in fact, I think they'll want to change the subject ASAP, but the people might talk about it for a while...like 3 months, if that.
That's all my opinion...Out of the people who are in the hospital, I hope no one dies. I hope all those people survive and get healthy again. If I were them, I'd charge the city to get money - if the city knew they were old pipes, they should have replaced them right away....bumholes.
As you can tell, I feel deeply about these kind of things, no matter where they happen!

the pipes should have been replaced in 1989 when the last pipe bursted out of the ground.

Nothing will happen, the status quo will be maintained. It would be near impossible to replace all the steam pipes in the city.
