The Borderlands were much unchanged from the last time there had been any visitors - at least at first glance. The houses were still where they had always been, the trees were as tall as ever, the mountains as majestic. But the season was not the same; the last time there had been visitors, it had been high summer. Now, the leaves of the trees were beginning to turn, and in the afternoon sun the valley seemed to glow with the reds and golds of autumn. It was still early enough, however, that the weather was very warm - but not so hot as to be uncomfortable.

There was no movement anywhere outside: apparently everyone was inside. Or so one might assume.

Three children burst from the portal and stopped short. Celebor, Serenity, and Skye all stood only a few feet into the world of the Four Lands and stared out at the beauty of the valley. None of them had seen nature like this before - even out at their home, the inn, there wasn't this much space.

Skye of course had seen it before, but she hadn't paid attention to it at the time. Coming here the first time, she had been inside Kara's travel bag; going home, she had been very badly homesick and not paid any attention to it at all.

Only a moment after they entered, their nako stepped through, followed by Elnara, who was holding Lore by the hand. Elnara's eyes grew bright as she gazed across the valley, and she tightened her grip on Lore's hand, giving it a little squeeze.

"Welcome to the Borderlands," she murmured to him.

"Amazing," Lore murmured softly to her, "It's like home, more open spaces than there are buildings. Doesn't have the smell of cars or any other fumes. The tempeture of nature instead of a combination of nature and living in a close technology run city.... it's been a long time."

Only, he knew he had little to fear this time coming back.

Elnara took a deep breath of the fresh air, and she couldn't help but nod agreement at Lore's comment.

"Yes," she murmured with a wide smile, giving his hand a little squeeze. "It is like coming home."

Storm and Starr weren't looking so much at the landscape as they were at the sky. One of them was on each of Elnara's and Lore's shoulders, and they were holding onto them with one hand, and with their other hands were reaching out towards the sky.

Celebor, Skye and Serenity all took off towards the houses in the distance, beckoning for their nako to follow.

Serenity smiled and followed them happily, Idhril's vase tucked under one arm, angled so that the sparkles coming out the top were facing away from her.

Well, at least it wasn't feathers like Storm and Starr's had been.

Lore took a deep breath in, taking in everything around him. It wa to him an amazing sight to behold.

"So..." he murmured watching the twins curiousity, "Where to?"

Elnara smiled and pointed towards the houses. "There," she replied. "That's where Ulani and Ulrich live ... and where we'll be staying. I have to warn you, Ulrich ... can be a bit silly, but don't take him seriously. You'll get along great, I'm sure."

She gave him an encouraging smile and started leading the way, following the others.

Lore nodded, squeezing Elnara's hand gently, "I understand, I think... I'll be okay."

He thought it would refreshing though to be able to joke with someone. Even though he didn't know when was the last time he joked.

Serenity reached the house first, along with all the rest of the children, and she waited on the porch for Elnara and Lore to catch up. She wouldn't bother knocking, she was far too comfortable here to do something as formal as that, but she wasn't going to let the kids go in and scare Ulani and Ulrich without having Elnara there to explain their presence.

"Mommy! Come on!" Celebor hollered, hands cupped around his mouth, from where he stood beside his grandmother on the porch. "We wanna go in!"

Elnara laughed and waved. "We'll be there in a minute, have patience," she called back - though she did pick up her pace a bit.

Lore chuckled as he hurried along side Elnara, "Well this is his big chance."

Which was true seeing as his sisters by complete chance ended up in this world before Celebor.

Elnara grinned, but she was blushing faintly. "It's not my fault, I swear!" she retorted, poking at his side. "I had no idea they would be coming here, I never found out until they were back! Although to be honest," she admitted, "I'm surprised Celebor never tried to come on his own. I had always seen him as the adventurous one of the three."

She reached up and prodded Storm, who was on her shoulder. "I wouldn't put it past these two to try go on their own once they're tall enough to reach the door handle, either," she commented as they arrived at the porch.

Serenity grinned and pushed open the door. "Hello?" she called out, stepping inside. The house was strangely quiet for this time of the afternoon ...

Ulrich stepped out of the kitchen, a finger to his lips. But when he saw Serenity - and those behind her - his expression changed to one of incredulity, and he chuckled softly.

"Welcome back," he told her. "It's been over two years, we thought something had happened to you." He nodded at the kids behind her. "Who are they?"
PostPosted: Tue Jul 17, 2007 6:58 pm

"Not because though," he murmured to her, "Because they are adventurous, they are far, far more curious than any parent would deem safe," he laughed a bit.

It was true though about Celebor he though as they reached the porch, but he thought, Celebor was a good kid, he would no do anything, or try not to do anything his mother wouldn't approve of.

"I guess it's better than being afraid of everything," Elnara quipped as she pushed the door open the rest of the way.

Skye pushed out in front of all the others and tackled Ulrich around the waist in a tight hug. "Hi Ulrich!" she said brightly. She let go of him and did a little spin. "Look! Skye grew!" She giggled proudly.

Celebor stepped inside and looked around. "Hey, this place is neat!" he grinned. "Kind of like home, kind of! This where Skye came with Gramma and Don'van?"

Serenity hung back shyly.

The twins climbed down from Elnara and Lore's shoulders and sat instead in their arms so that they wouldn't have hit their heads on the doorway.
