This will be a thread for creating characters for the upcoming learner's game I will be running, which I need to think up a better title for. It may also serve as a general OOC thread.

[2. Background Info]
[3. Character List]
[4. Character Creation Instructions]

And if you don't understand anything or are confused by anything, just ask!

So, first let me describe the situation our bold adventurers will be in:

It is more or less set in a world called Eberron, though that's not going to be very important, mostly just to give me some already established background and geography to work with for a few things. You don't need to know anything about this, and I'll assume that you don't, as well.

All the members of the group are students at what might be described as a training school for adventurers. That makes it sound far more formal than it is, really it's little more than a wise old man who used to adventure in his days that's serving as a mentor to you and several other people.

This 'school' is right next to a small village of perhaps two hundred people, located in a sparsely settled region of swamps and wilderness knows as the Shadow Marches. There's not much of any civilization around.

In this region, humans and orcs live together mostly peacefully, few other races live here. Orcs are not the evil brutes they are elsewhere, they are a spiritual people that live close to nature.

There are, however, many dangers in this wild land. Wild creatures roam the Marches. Some of the orc tribes have left the ways of their ancestors to follow an evil religion known as the Cult of the Dragon Below. Tribes of hostile goblins live in some areas.

Recently, though, a plague has come to a nearby village. Your teacher, Master Dreggis, has an old friend that he believes can cure the plague. Unfortunate, the friend lives far away, and the route to get to him leads through dangerous territory. Master Dreggis has decided that it is time for your first adventure. . . .

Character Creation:

If you know how to play D&D already, then all you need to know is that we're using the standard 4d6 for ability scores, and all 3.5 material (but if I don't have the book, you'll have to send me a summery). If you need to know anything else, just ask.

If you haven't played D&D before, you'll want to read some of this first. All the other rules you will need to play can be found here. There are a lot, but don't worry, you won't need them all! Then make a post, and use the dice option on Gaia to roll a total of twenty-four six sided dice, in groups of four dice. You can do this in two ways, either by making six posts with four dice each, or two posts, one with twenty, the other with four (twenty is the max number of dice Gaia lets you roll at once, I think), and separating the dice from that into blocks of four.

From each block of four dice, drop the lowest die. Add the remaining three die together. When you have done this for all six groups of four, then arrange the results as you desire for your six ability scores: Strength, Dexterity, Constitution, Intelligence, Wisdom, and Charisma.

Once you've done that, you'll need to choose your race and class. There are a number of choices, so you may want to ask for advice. We'll cover that when we get to it, I don't want to overwelm you now.

Wolven_Darkness
Do we re-roll ones and two's? I know some GM's who do that...

1 ,2 ,2 ,4 = 8

Hmm, not in this game . . . want to keep it as simple as possible. However, your rolls are a good example of what is defined as a 'hopeless character,' meaning that either none of your scores are above 13, or the total of all your ability score modifiers is 0 or less. In that case, you reroll all scores.
