Once again he was off on his own, after spending most of the day with his dad the colt needed some time just to himself. They had laughed and had a good time together playing and being taught different things. He’d been shown plants that were good to eat, some that were okay to eat but tasted bad, and some that were never ever okay to eat. Things like that made Faolen happy, he wanted to know everything there was to know so he wouldn’t do anything wrong.
Shaking out the wild mane that recently had gotten the stupid idea of growing longer and longer, the colt pranced a bit then slowed to a sedate walk. It wasn’t that he didn’t want to get himself dirty, he simply chose to be careful where he was. Finn, his brother, always seemed willing to just go running off without having a plan and that didn’t suit Faolen very well. He wanted to know where he was going, when, with who, why, and when he’d come back. Gee, being informed sometimes was too much effort.
Oh look!
Eyes widening as a big ole toad hopped forward across the path that the he was walking on. Oh! Mr. Toad! Bouncing forward a bit, forgetting to be careful the colt began to imitate the toad’s jerky hop-jump movements. “Ribbit goes the frog!” Hehehe, this was fun. Since the frog didn’t move that quickly Faolen had a lot of time to put energy into the hops he made trying to make all four legs leave the ground even for a moment. Something that wasn’t overly easy for a horse to do…

She had seen a lot of odd things in her time but she had never seen a boy do that. She knew they were crazy, their ways questionable and a lot of the time she couldn't understand why they couldn't be more like her daddy. Granted, she had never seen her daddy attempting to seduce another more but he wasn't stupid enough to bop about and mimic a frog - that was just silly!
Canting her head to the side, the tiny mare only briefly took heed of the loose waves of her mane creeping across her neck. They weren't very long, but they were certainly growing out and she rather approved - okay, so it was a little itchy but she wanted hair as long as her mother's but as curly as her dad's! She hadn't quite grasped that hair that length (and weight) may not be capable of handling curls, they may just fall out...
That being said, her father had always told her it was rude to stare and for that reason, she let out a long and exasperated sigh before wagging her tail from side to side.
"Whatcha doin'?" She enquired curiously from her vantage point near the tree.

Faolen was having the time of his life. Sure, it was probably the most ridiculous thing he’d done this week but it was more fun than just sitting or standing around grazing. Her dad and mam seemed to think that that was just the bee’s knees or some other weird saying that meant “probably dull or stupid” in his book. Grinning, Faolen’s face transformed to being simply cheeky.
His mind was trying to think of something else he could do that would make playing with the toad more fun, but not much was coming to mind. Already he was starting to huff and puff just a little bit from the exercise. Hopping was hard work! His mane had started to lengthen, but neither of his parents were sure just what it would do. Personally, he was praying the he’d not get the length that his mam carried around.
Oh no! Someone was watching him. A charming grin spread across his face, time to do some smooth talking? Or run.. Nah, he’d rather talk.
“Why.. I’m havin’ fun. What’re ye doin’?” Why else would he do something? Fun was fun!

"Sun bathin'," The tiny filly replied, the hint of a lilt in her voice as she once again flopped her backside on the ground nearby the tree and smiled. She rather enjoyed sunbathing, she didn't have to scuttled around all that much and it kept her nice and warm. Not only that, but she always managed to find another soquili in the process!
Alright, so they were usually doing something random but it did provide entertainment.
"Ye never did strike me for a frog, ye know," She observed, continuing to watch the young colt with not-so-veiled interest. Well she had never seen anyone mimic a frog before and now that she thought about it, he did match the frog in terms of colour!

The filly sat down the way a dog would? Well… that was interesting. If he didn’t feel like standing he usually just threw himself on the ground, although right now that probably wouldn’t be all that fitting. Faolen forced his mind to focus on what she had said. Her voice wasn’t “normal” the way that a lot of other spoke, so he wasn’t the only one that wasn’t “normal” or whatever people wanted to say.
Hmm.. So did he want to get closer to her to talk? Heck no. Cooties were contagious and until he was positive the little female didn’t have them he’d not got even an inch closer to him.
“I’m nae a frog.” Dumb girl, thinking he was actually a frog. He was bigger than her and honestly, if there were frogs out there that were as big as he was, meeting them wasn’t on his to-do list. His vivid teal eyes blinked lazily and he looked her over, “Ye know.. Ye remind me ‘o me herd mate.. CandiFloss.”

"Well ye be hoppin' about like a frog!" Honey protested, her ears swivelling as his words caught them. Her expression was one of mild exasperation at his response. He was like all the colts she had met - cocky and proud to the point that she wanted to boot him upside the hindquarters as an act of discipline. They needed to learn respect!
"And tha' be a mighty stupid observation," She began, raising to her hooves once again as she began to make her way towards him. Her footsteps were exceptionally unsteady, tentative at best but her features were creased with effort and she was making progress on a relatively slow scale.
"Cause Flossy be me sister!" She pointed out, canting her head to the side with a small grunt, "And so be Fudge!"

So what if he had been hopping about like a frog? One ear pricked forward with mild curiosity while the other tried not to pin itself in irritation. She was just like all the other fillies he had met, full of opinions and cooties. Gah, what an irritation and look! Now he was headed her way.. Probably planning on rubbing off cooties on him.
As he watched her wobble and walk an eyebrow raised slowly in quite a bit of curiosity, it seemed she wasn’t very good at walking. Flossy could run for days at a time so it wasn’t age, perhaps something was wrong with her legs? He’d not ask because that wasn’t being “tactful” … Who needed to be tactful when there were things to learn? Out with the information already.
“I pity ye bein’ her sister then.” Faolen rolled his eyes as wide as they’d go, “Fudge is okay.. For a girl.”

"Fudge dinnae like me daddeh," Honey looked almost sad as she plopped herself down again after a few moments. It was clear that he didn't want her nearby and she was fairly certain she didn't want to humiliate herself any more in front of him. She didn't mind doing it in front of girls - they giggled sure but they weren't mean, boys were.
At least she was good at swimming, her dad had taught her well!
"I not be seein' me sisters all tha' much lately cause daddeh took me te the beaches and been teachin' me house te fish!" She announced proudly, the very concept of a horse fishing seemed to evade most soquili so her being able to do it (even slightly) made her feel very good - it was just the ego boost that she needed.
"Family tradition te learn, but ye can only be taught one at a time cause the adult gotsa keep an eye on ye! So I think daddeh gonna ask if Flossy be wantin' te learn to..." She wasn't entirely sure about Fudge, her father never really spoke of her youngest sister and always seemed grim at the mention of her name. It was better not to ask.

Faolen arched an eyebrow lazily and decided to take those words with a grain of salt. People got odd ideas sometimes so he would simply hope that was what had happened between the father and daughter duo. Why? Because his own relationship with his parents didn’t leave too much room for ideas like that. He loved his family - fiercely.
Even his mother who seemed confused at time loved him and Finn.
Learn how to fish, eh? Well, it wasn’t something he could do nor was it something he’d heard of really anybody attempting to do successfully in the past but that didn’t give him way to say it was bad or stupid. The colt simply stomped his foot down on the ground and nodded as if he were the most accepting creature around.
“The idea of Flossy floppin’ around’ in water tryin’ ter behave makes me want ter laugh a bit.” From the little that the colt knew it took a lot of silence and good behavior in order for one to be able to catch a fist. “Are ye any good at fishin’?” His own temper would probably allow for some talent in it, but his brother…

"Yep, I swim real good too!" She wagged her tail enthusiastically from side to side and seemed to positively beam at the mention of one of her talents. In the water her limbs didn't seem to struggle at all and so she had excelled in her father's lessons. At times she had even been better than him - he had joked and teased her about it but all the while he had seemed delighted. If she could do it then so could Flossy!
"I be reckonin' that Flossy will be good at fishin', she's got enough energy te keep going for a long time," she pointed out gently, allowing her ears to swivel as she pictured the mare who was the most hyper out of the three. As crazy as she was, perhaps she would be determined enough to excel just like Honey...but secretly Honey hoped that she and she alone was the better swimmer of the three!
"I be guessin' you never tried fishin' eh?" She mused at last.

Swimming was something the little colt had taken to but with a bit of hesitancy and a whole lot of questioning. Because he liked to know everything about anything he was going to do or planned on doing, the colt had a hard time with just “diving in” to anything. Be it water or a game. Shaking his head he focused again on the conversation and all that jazz. For once the little colt was thinking of play-time.
Faolen smiled indulgently (as much as a colt could at the filly) He figured that she was just praising her sister because blood was blood. Even if Finn turned out to be the worst brother to have he’d still talk him up and adore him. The same would probably hold true for Finn about him. His teal eyes flashed a bit and he shifted to stand more comfortably.. Where was there to fish about here?
“Nay, I’ve nae tried ter fish.” Simple enough to tell the truth!

Honey gave a little gasp as Faolen informed her that he'd never fished before. This was a big shock to the petite filly who, like her father, believed that everyone should try it at least once. While she adored the game and the skill it took, others may just find the concept of a water fight to be much more enjoyable...she knew that her Uncle enjoyed getting drenched by her Auntie a lot of the time as opposed to trying to catch the fish.
"Then we gotsa let ye try!" She announced, her voice rather excited in tone as she wiggled her tail a little faster and turned her head slightly in the direction of the lake. She knew exactly where to go because her Daddy had taken her a few times when he had found out she enjoyed it. However this time it was a little different, this time she was getting to teach someone!
"Come on, I'll show ye - it'll be fun!"

Faolen eyed the filly carefully. He had a couple of choices. One, go blindly into something he’d really not heard of anybody doing; two, refuse and look like a chicken; or three, run like hell. The last two really didn’t sit well on his “level of manliness” (what little a colt could have) So he puffed himself up and grinned at her. It would be an educational day.. Or maybe he’d just dunk her and have a giggle or two.
“Awright. We’ll give it a go, eh?” His little tail flicked back and forth along with his ears in curiosity. “Where’s the water around here?” The faded etchy markings around his hooves ruffled a bit in the breeze as he picked up a hoof and tramped it down. Along the way he’d probably ask every question there was to ask, but then he’d feel much much better.
“We havena got all day ye ken!”

"This way!" With a squeal of delight Honey pulled herself to her feet once more and seemed to develop a small spring to her step. Granted her steps were still tentative and slow, but hen there seemed to be a boost in her confidence she wasn't quite as clumsy. While this probably wasn't important for her as a filly, maybe that was a tell tale sign of what she might be like as an adult.
...While she wanted to be as quirky as her father, she really wanted to look as beautiful as her mother and stumbling didn't help that look.
"Jes' remember we cannae go all that deep cause we'll not be able te get out again," She began, remembering her father's lessons and how he had taught her how to recognise when she was in too deep. "We be goin' in til about our shoulders, jes' enough te touch the bottom but deep enough te catch the fishies..."
"Bet I can catch more than you!"
