Wikipedia
The term "déjà vu" (IPA:/deʒa vu/) (French for "already seen", also called paramnesia from the Greek word para (παρα) for parallel and mnēmē (μνήμη) for memory) describes the experience of feeling that one has witnessed or experienced a new situation previously.

For some time now I have kept records on my Dreams, and my daily life in two separate notebooks. Often while reading through them I note Congruences between the two. These congruences at times worry me, because they are not within close proximity of one another. One such event sticks out quite well. I'll shall type out my short entries here for you to read.

Dream Diary
September 7th 2006

Last night's dream was quite peculiar. I was in my oceanography class watching Pirates of the Caribbean. The odd part of this was that it was not my normal classroom, based on the way it looked it seemed more like a room a tech-hallway. Mrs.Viado had called me up to show me my grade for the year, a rather disappointing 47 E. I asked 'Is there anyway an A on the Final could pass me for the year?' she replied 'No, you may as well not show up.' and I returned to my seat as Captain Jack was on his point of 'Always trusting a Dishonest man to be Dishonest. I then awoke at 1:42 AM."

All my dream entries follow that formula, the setting what is going on, the exact words being spoken and the time I awake. I never realized how Valuable this could be as there was Direct correlations to a journal entry to my day.

Daily life
June 7th 2007

((Skipping forward to my final class))
...I reached oceanography, to my surprise there was a notice on the door to go to a different room for the class today. I go to the room and walk in as the bell rings narrowly avoiding a detention...again...I take an empty seat and Mrs. Viado says "since we are drawing to the end of the year I thought we could kick back and enjoy a movie with a Pirate." I automatically thought of POTC. She plays the movie and during it call people up to see grade and what they need on the final to pass. My name is called, I already knew I had likely failed for the year, as I had for the other classes, but in each class an A on the final would save me. I approach expecting a solid 60-ish only to be greeted with a 47. I ask if an A on final would pass me for the year. She said No I may as well not show up. I sat down and despite the situation I couldn't help but smile about trusting a dishonest man being dishonest. I sat around for the next 18 minutes waiting for 2:00 to come around. I could'nt help but feel I had done all this before. Thankfully we aren't in matrix to my knowledge so I need not worry about Smith

It wasn't until a week later when I was reading through my notebooks I noticed this congruency in Times, grade, and words being spoken.

This brought forth an interesting set of questions for me. "Can Deja Vu be more than just a feeling?" And "What of seeing the Future and the ideas of Fate?"

Share your feelings on my experience, what you feel about my questions. If it would please you all I will I post other experiences. A similar case would be my constant planning of various scenarios that would likely never happen coming true to the letter.

DISCUSSION

The idea of Fate and Deja Vu being intertwined
Deja vu being nothing more than that.
Deja vu being the secret of foreseeing events

I wouldn't call what you're describing "déjá vu;" that's more like when you're awake, but feel like you're reliving a particular point in time that you think you haven't. I can see why you would think that, though; as you said, it was a while later when you got the feeling. It's likely that you just forgot about your dream for a while.

What you're describing is more like plain precognitive dreams. It was a while between the entries, so although you may not have remembered the dream, it's more like recalling a memory than déjá vu.

This leaves me with an interesting question to pose: Could it be that déjá vu is simply someone forgetting their precognitive dreams, and so causing a bit of shock when they come true?

That is an intriguing view point, and in a sense seems quite logical. It would explain why you feel as though you have done such things before, but have no detailed memory of it. Perhaps everyone should keep books like mine and see what happens.

Hmm...Now I'm interested to see if anyone else here has dream journaled as thoroughly as you did. 3nodding

I've had moments like that before. Recently, during dinner I think I encountered deja vu while talking to my parents. My mom saw me put some salad onto my plate and she was surprised that I actually ate vegetables. I could predict what was going to happen next and I totally felt/knew that I had already gone through this. I really don't know what that means though.

Usually for me it's just a feeling of familiarity and other times I believe I've dreamt about it. Almost always it's pretty insignificant though, like someone telling me something.

wow that's odd, I'm going to start recording my dreams and days and see if that happens to me.

I sometimes have deja vu, ad other times where I see my entire future, I forget it as soon as I see it though. Deja vu is deffinately real, and I think you really have a talent, see what other events repeat, you could be amazed.

i seem to have déjà vu alot. I always day dream and most of the stuff i day dream about it happens. At night when i dream of someone i haven't see in a while I end up seeing them with a week of the dream. I have no idea what that last one is called, but i tend to get that one alot as well. Maybe it seems like i am just a freak or something.

Again, that's more precognition (and dreams about such are called "precognitive"). Déjá vu is the feeling that you've experienced something before, and you don't know why.

I've had many déjá vu's before, but I also have a lot of precognitive dreams.
It's become pretty much regular for me, and I've gotten used to it. It used to drive me crazy when I felt like I'd already done something before when I knew I hadn't, but I've also had a lot of strange things happen to me in the time between.
I have extremely strong precognitive dreams (among others), though, to the point where I refuse to sleep for days. I have dreams about things that will happen, down to the smallest detail, I also have dreams about things that have happened in the past, that I could have no idea about. Those dreams are the scary ones, though, because they're usually very painful and I feel that pain even after I wake up and it stays with me, because I'm usually a first-person party. (I've actually had it happen to me this week. My boyfriend was telling me about his grandmother's house in New York and how she says the house is evil and haunted and refuses to go into the old part of the house, because there was a man that lived there that would adopt children and would punish them by locking them in the basement and some of them starved to death. I had dreams about that basement for years, before I even met my boyfriend or knew who he was, and ended up describing that basement, the rest of the house, the man- who was a drunk, that he had a wife, and I told him that he was downplaying the story because he didn't just lock the kids down in the basement, but tortured them to death, I described the cage that was built into the wall- which my boyfriend told me was taken out- and other details down to where the window was and what the floors were made of. Hence the reason why I don't like sleeping, because most of my dreams consist of things like that.)
I also have a lot of dreams about the people I'm going to meet and the places I'm going to see. I often think back and wonder if I had done some things differently if it had been able to change my fate, or if things would have still ended up like they are now. I've known that I was going to date every guy I've dated since I was 16, how it was going to happen, what was going to happen and how it was going to end (for example). I tried the experiment of doing things differently than I had forseen myself doing it, but the result still ended the same with our break up. Maybe the dreams are just showing us what lessons we are to expect in life, and that we are all guided by fate.
I don't know.

On that note, I've often sat down and really wondered if some of the dreams that we have about the far future are really dreams or if the future will really be like what some of us dream it will be like.

That's a scary thought; I've actually had dreams of Earth dying. Makes me wonder how true that vision is... sad

I read some where (probably wikepidia) that they therorise that the subconciouse part of the brain notices things that we miss and while dreaming it could be a time for the subconciouse to put things together and show you the results..... Sounds resonable (I misspelled some stuff sory sweatdrop )

i think that when you die you relive your life over and over gain. to change mistaces you have made and make . it gives you another chance to do better at stuff. so a deja vu is you just remembering you have actualy done this before. you know like a slight glitch in your memory

I agree! With the life some people have lived(including myself) to go through it again would indeed be utter hell! I do howveer believe in re-incarnation and the sense that we re-live some of the experiences that we did in a previous life and do so in order to change the mistake we might have made in that situation but the whole thing....ouch.

No, though i respect your ideas and opinions i do not believe fate would be that horribly cruel. lol
