It was going to rain. There wasn't a doubt about it. The dark, ominous clouds that spread across the sky looked so heavy it was a wonder it wasn't raining yet. It was heading towards the evening time but it seemed much later thanks to the curtain which hid away the sun. Luckily the summer heat had been banished for the moment. None of this was the concern of the psychic Mana Spirit, however. She sat in the grass of the abandoned lot about five buildings down from where she and her owner took residence. The object of her attention was a small, very smooth stone which sat in front of her outstretched legs. All her arms were folded in front of her and she was scowling comically at the object.
She had been sitting like that for a good half an hour. Her concentration never wavered. The infant was getting much better at sitting still. She was on a mission, you see. That is why she had escaped from her owner and sought out the lot where she had met with Cerberus, the dark Mana. She was going to move the rock with her mind. So far she had been very unsuccessful. Why was this so? It frustrated her to no end. The other day when the annoying Kunkun she lived with had pounced on her from behind in an attempt to scare her she'd been able to knock him off her in her panic. And she didn't do it using any of her four arms. It wasn't working today for some reason...
Echidna looked up at the sky and rubbed her eyes with her upper set of arms. She'd been staring at the rock too long and her eyes were beginning to feel the effects. The black antenna atop her head flexed as she fell backwards in exasperation. A nice comfy patch of overgrown grass caught her so she didn't hit the hard ground. Something wet hit her square in the forehead. Curious, she went crosseyed as she attempted to see what it was. Sitting up she brought her upper right hand to her head and discovered a drop of moisture. Another hit her head. And then another. She wiped the drops from her locks of black hair. A serpant of lightening crossed the sky and made the little spirit go wide-eyed.
A fraction of a second later a tremendous roar of thunder rocked the city. Echidna gave out a pathetic yelp and hid her face in her hands. She was trembling in a matter of moments. She hated loud noises. They frightened her so much. Her small brain registered the fact she had to get home pronto. She stood up shakily, looking the way she had come. She started to run for her home, looking comically terrified. Another streak of lightening and a snarl of thunder. Echidna began to bawl her eyes out, fear hindering her ability to remember the way to her home. The rain was now a bit more then a drizzle and was steadily heading for a downpour.
In a matter of moments it was one. You could hardly see in front of your face Echidna ducked into the nearest alley, pressing her back to a dumpster and wailing. This had been a bad, bad idea.

Elizabeth was used to the rain and darkness. She had been born into it, and though was raised in a church, her world was always cold and evil. Her black wings told many that she was a bad omen, that death and illness would come to those close to her. The problem was, so many took an interest in the noir angel.
As usual, Elizabeth was caught in the rain downpour. It was cold out, and she shivered. There was no one around, no one to help her by giving her a place to stay. Then again, no one ever did. Her slow pace turned into a run, and she took flight. Lightning hit a pole next to her, and she hurried more. Her outfit was getting soaked, her black and blue hair drenched. How her halo and crown stayed with her during her flight for shelter was curious. Elizabeth must have been flying over a speed of 60 mph, avoiding buildings and light poles.
The clouds grew darker, thunder and lightning stronger and louder. Elizabeth buzzed by a church, where she knew she might be welcomed, but doubted it. Instead, she landed on a terrace above the church. There was a statue of an angel praying, and a saint on the other side. Elizabeth sighed, her breath visible now due to the dropping temperatures. Her gloves and stockings would not keep her skin warm, but inside she was burning up with anger. Why could people not see her for what she was?
Suddenly, Elizabeth heard cries over the loud thunder. She shook her wings, drying them off as best as she could. However, it was pointless because the rain was still coming in heavily.
It took the noir angel half a second to find where the commotion was coming from. This child was loud, and even the thunder could not cover them. Looking down, she saw that this was not any child. She looked like a butterfly!
"Are you hurt down there?" Elizabeth asked, trying to be comforting. At the moment Echidna peered up, though, lightning struck behind the new guest. Elizabeth's figure was turned into a dark figure with large wings and glowing brown eyes. "Hey, I asked you a question!"

Things certainly were looking rather hopeless. Echidna, in an attempt to escape the rain further, drew her knees up to her chin and hid her face. All four of her arms held her knees securely in place. You could tell she was trembling lightly and it wasn't from the cold. Surely this whole mess would be over soon...Her antenna perked up. Had that been a voice? Echidna blinked back tears and peered up. At that moment a streak of lightening illuminated the background of the kunkun giving her an eerie look. This was the last of Echidna's problems though. She whimpered audibly as a less powerful boom of thunder came down on the town. The tiny creature...it resembled the orange-haired thing she lived with! But what if she was as horrible as he was? Echidna held onto her knees tighter.
She remembered the Kunkun's words. Her owner had been teaching her human speech and so she vaguely knew the meaning of the kunkun's question. "N-n-n-no!" she stammered, keeping her eyes on the small creature. Her pale lavendar skin glisened with the rain that also slicked her inky-black hair. "M-m-mommy!" she sobbed, unfurling her arms from around her knees and reaching up towards the Kunkun.

Whoever (or whatever) this girl was, she obviously needed some sort of help. She cried up to Elizabeth, calling for her Mommy. The noir angel kunkun frowned, knowing what it was like to be without a parent. Well, their real parents. Though in this case, Elizabeth was inclined to believe that perhaps this girl knew where she belonged.
Slowly, carefully, Elizabeth glided down in the ally. When she landed, her back was turned to Echidna, and she turned to face the psychic mana spirit. Bending down, she made sure that Echidna had not been physically hurt from the storm. Elizabeth held out her land, covered by a black glove that stretched up her arm. "Can you understand me?" she said slowly. She did not want to scare the frightened girl even more than she already was.
Wondering if it was the right thing to do, she took an apple from the bag she was carrying. She also held it out to Echidna, along with her free hand, still outstretched to the strange girl with four arms.

Echidna really liked the kunkun's wings. Now that they were face to face she had quit whimpering and had taken to oogling at the pretty feathers. She really wanted to pet them...but the Kunkun was so small. She almost forgot her fear of thunder when she was peering curiously into Elizabeth's orange eyes...Until another clap of thunder made her jump. She had seemingly ignored the Kunkun's statement of 'can you understand me'. Well, it wasn't so much that she had ignored it so much that she simply couldn't understand her. Echidna blinked when she was offered the apple. Then she made a comical face. Like any rebelling infant she couldn't stand anything that was good for her health. She turned her gaze then to the kunkun's other outstretched hand. Instinct told her to take it. Even though her hand was larger she used the utmost care for the small creature. She herself was small, only reaching her owner's knee, but kunkun's seemed to be fragile creatures. Although that didn't apply to the menace she lived with.

Elizabeth gave Echidna a warm smile, letting her know that she was friendly and wanted to help. When she made a yucky face at the apple, Elizabeth made a small giggle sound. She placed the apple back in the bag, then fluttered her wings, lifting her from the ground.
Suddenly, another thunder clap roared loudly over their heads, lighting hitting a pole close by. Elizabeth, though much smaller, gently hugged Echidna. "We need to get you home," she noir angel whispered, wondering if Echidna understood anything she was saying.
Elizabeth, not knowing what else to do, again began to rise from the ground, hoping Echidna would understand that she was trying to get her home, to a warmm save shelter.

The lightening definitely didn't do anything good for the poor Mana Spirit. She cringed and then began to sniffle and shake again, wanting to bury her face back into her knees and yet still wanting to look at the pretty Kunkun's feathers. When she was embraced she felt slightly better. Her words were foreign to Echidna until she spoke the word home. That was one she knew all too well! She nodded entusiastically and with the help of the dumpster stood up. She didn't like being so wet. The thought of going home to her nice owner in their lovely apartment was quite appealing. She peered curiously at the Kunkun as she lifted up from the ground. Because she wasn't alone any longer she gradually began to recall the place she had snuck away from.
Even though her thought process was still pretty basic she could still tell that the Kunkun was trying to help her find her way home. Tentatively she began moving her feet, letting her arms hang down by her side for a lack of a better use for them. Her antenna was close to her head as possible. Luckily the thunder seemed to be abating. With the comfort of the Kunkun she found herself emerging from the alley to be greeted by a rather grey world. She whimpered slightly and began making her way down the sidewalk, occasionally glancing at the Kunkun for comfort. A growl of thunder threatened to erupt into a full-blown snarl and she gripped the wall of the nearest building for support.
She was almost...there...finally she came underneath the familiar awning of the apartment building. She sighed in pure relief. Everything was finally familiar! And the rain could no longer get to her. For a moment she shook herself like a dog and a small amount of water was sent sprawling off her pale purple skin. So happy now that she was hardly aware of the growl of thunder she looked to the Kunkun with a big grin of success. If she could remember what the word was for gratitude she would've been saying it over and over again right then. After a moment of a somewhat puzzled look she extended her upper right hand to the Kunkun and pointed to the door with her lower right one. What she was indicating was for the Kunkun to come with her inside.

It had been a long way home, but Echidna proved that she was brave. Occasionally she'd look up at Elizabeth, or grip a wall for support. When they had arrived, almost immediately the rain began to stop. "Go figure," she mumbled under her breath. Gently squeezing the water from her long hair, her shiny eyes caught the mana spirit pointing at the door.
Elizabeth took her hand, and followed her inside. There were several flights of stairs, leading up to many rooms. It was one of the largest apartments the noir angel had ever seen, and also looked to be pretty fancy. Perhaps though, it was just the added touches added by everyone in the building.
Echidna led Elizabeth all the way to a door, a few flights up, a box sitting outside the door. "I wonder who this is for?" Poking it slightly, again the mana spirit caught her eye. It was as if she was saying don't poke that because it will make someone unhappy.

Echidna peered at the parcel, tilting her head slightly and bringing her right index finger to her lip as if thinking. It was probably for her human caretaker. She gathered it up in her arms carefully and proceeded to knock lightly on the door. She smiled, her whole features bright. The rain drumming on the roof and the faint clap of thunder didn't really bother her anymore. The door opened in a frenzy, a frenzied teenager who was not-quiet-an-adult-yet peered around and finally looked down at her. "Echidna!" She half-scolded, scooping up the little thing like she hadn't seen her in ages. After the snuggling of the little mana spirit had ceased she looked at the kunkun and smiled gratefully. "Thank you for finding her," She said.
