Okay, so I recently got a job at a Movie Gallery, so I get to rent movies for free! I've been getting a few movies every time I work, and I thought I'd start a review thread about the movies I watched. D: I don't know...I thought it would be cool... Anyway, feel free to quote or comment on my reviews or post your own for movies you've seen! And go ahead and use my rating system. D: ::My Rating System:: Now, I've always been a big Turtles fan, but I can't remember for the life of me what this little guy is called. I remember an episode of TMNT vividly where there's hundreds of these guys. Anyway, this guy means I hated the movie. Downright would not recommend seeing and and it's totally lame because my word means everything. Now, Leo's a good guy and everything, but he's kind of a p***y and he's way too uppity...all the time. So he means that the movie was pretty bad, but it did have it's moments. Probably shouldn't see these ones. No. Raph is a good turtle and everything...he's actually my favorite turtle, but he just wouldn't work as number one in this rating system because he's too irrational and moody most of the time. He means the movie was okay, nothing spectacular, the idea might have been good, but something about the movie was way too off, making it nothing more than mediocre. Mike's a good guy, he knows what's up, and he has a blast doing whatever it is he's doing, so he means that the movie was pretty good. It may have had one or two parts that made you stare or neutral , but all in all, it was an enjoyable movie, and you should probably watch it. Donnie. Donnie's the man. Seriously. He's a friggen genius. Right. So he means that the movie was absolutely fantastic, that you should get off your a** right now and go see it because it's that brilliant.

 The History Boys
Okay, so this movie is about a group of smart, witty, young Brits preparing themselves, with the help of two very different teachers, to get into their desired prestigious universities. If you're looking for a super action flick or one with a lot of goings on, this movie isn't for you. It's complex and entertaining in its own way. The actors did a great job with their roles, the lines came out wonderfully, and the writers did an amazing job. The boys go through love, loss, and lust, but all in the most unfortunate and complicated of ways. I don't want to ruin anything for you, but there is a sort of cliché situation near the end, and I felt it was rather rushed and unnecessary. At the very end, they do some strange "let's show who the boys turn out to be in the future" thing that I really didn't like at first, but after seeing it through entirely, I realized how well it turned out.

Wassup Rockers
A handful of low class Latino boys who like skateboarding and sex bus out to Beverly Hills to skate around and see if they can't get laid. Cop chases, random cavortings with little rich girls, high-class theatre people, photographers, and their rich, drunken neighbors leads them to scarring ends. It sounds exciting and moving, yes? There are just way too many scenes of them sitting around doing nothing, or things that don't matter, not for a movie anyway. There's a lot about racism and prejudice, and they try to make you feel real bad for these boys, but I just wasn't. They made stupid choices, ones that no one would ever make, and there's no way a little unattractive 14-year-old boy could get so much action in such a short time. I did enjoy the way they showed the sort of elitism that shadows the upper class, and how dark it can be, even with all of those sparkly diamonds (Oh yes...I went there. xD ) and the 'money doesn't buy happiness' theme they had going on for awhile. I had high hopes for this movie. I really wanted to like it, but I didn't.

Clean
Ugh. Another disappointment. Two picks in one day...I was out of my game, what can I say? This one was about a heroine-addicted singer chick who loses her husband to drugs and her son to her mother- and father-in-law. It's about her cleaning up so she can take back custody of her son. It was like the end would never come...like the third Lord of the Rings movie all over again, for real. I was bored out of my mind for most of it and at the end, I didn't care whether she would get to see her son again. She was a b***h and a drama queen; very egotistical and couldn't think of anything else but what she wanted. The only reason anyone helped her was because they adored her dead husband (actually, I think he was her boyfriend or fiance...but they were incredibly close and had been with each other for years.... ) . But, yes. Don't waste your time watching this one.

Yo-yo Girl Cop
I watched it real quick last night because I needed to get it back to the store yesterday before it closed (the street date was today) . It's about, as the name implies, a girl who is a secret agent for a special police organization, and she's trying to infiltrate this group, who are teens too, who have this website to show other teenagers how to build bombs, and how to go about creating havoc and blowing themselves up in the middle of crowded streets and stuff. The police want to use teens to be the cops because they feel teenagers can relate better with the depressed, suicidal teens.
The dubbing was terrible. Most of the lines were cheesy and not well thought out. The voice actress for the main girl didn't talk much at the beginning of the movie, but at the end she started giving little monologues, and somewhere near the end, she develops a lisp, and it's really noticable. Who knows if if was planned that way or if she just had a lisp, but I found it really distracting. The story was acceptable. I do enjoy the idea of fighting with yo-yos. That's friggen hilarious. The fight scenes were pretty cool too. The 'evil' guy's excuse for being evil was kind of stupid, but I got over it.
Special effects were pretty good. All of the bombs and stuff. There was this one in the beginning where they were showing a girl blowing herself up, and they stopped it right at the beginning when the bomb was going off, and it looked real fake, but the rest were pretty excellent.
Again, I really wish I had had the time to watch it in subtitles. I'm sure it's much better that way. So, if you're going to watch it...subtitles all the way, man.

Reefer Madness
I'm not much for musicals myself, but I found this one to be pretty entertaining. It's a spoof off of an old government documentary about how marijuana is this horrible terrible drug that makes you violent and it completely ruins your life.
I think a musical route was just the right path to take for this movie. It just made everything funnier. They incorporated Jesus into it too, and had a song about how hip Jesus was...it was spectacular. You definately need to watch this one. All of you. The whole...one person who will actually read any of this. Yes---->You. Anyway, they tell this story about this boy who is the perfect teenager, and he's dating this nice girl, and they want their love to be like Romeo and Juliet because they just started reading it for a play they're doing at school, but they don't know the ending yet. And this boy, Jimmy, starts haning out with this older guy who smokes weed with his wife who he abuses, and she only stays with him for the drugs, and they make it seem like it's heroine or something. Jimmy starts smoking, and he gets real twitchy and everything, and he can't go a day without it.
It got a little repetitive after awhile, but they just kept throwing out new ways to make it funny, like with guns, and Jesus, and the devil and stuff. I'd watch it again.

An Evening with Kevin Smith: Evening Harder 2
Right. So some of you might know Mr. Smith better as Silent Bob. Yes, he is the creator and director of movies such as Clerks, Clerks 2, and the beloved Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back. These DVDs (it's a two-disc set) show him in Canada and London doing two Q and A sessions with a bunch of random fans who paid to come hear him talk. And you wouldn't think it would be as entertaining as it is because that's all it is is two full hours of Kevin Smith telling random stories and answering a few audience questions. It's as funny as seeing any stand up comic (any good stand up comic), and it's just as good as seeing any movie directed by him.
I thoroughly enjoyed it and recommend you watch this. It's a good time.

Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix
As some of you may know, I'm an avid fan of the books. I understand that you can't take the book word for word and throw it up on the screen; I know how demanding and completely absurd that would be; I can comprehend the reason for the sacrifice of some details and plot twists for the good of the film and it's reasonable timing. What I cannot stand is the terrible acting, the inaccurate depictions of characters, the changing of things that don't take any time at all (costume selections, hair, colors, etc. that have significance in the books and, therefore, should have significance in the movies), and the lack of explanations that would have put my mind at ease. The school year was unacceptable. "Okay, we'll do a montage of the DA and how horrible Umbridge is, throw it all together in a fifteen minute little sequence, then they'll take their OWLS and we should be good." Right. Good one. Ron and Hermione weren't even prefects. They showed almost nothing of Occlemency. And (I'll be vague so as not to spoil any future books for anyone) they completely skipped a significant something that happened over the break. And cleaning. Even though it was just cleaning of the house, it was really significant for the future. I'm sure they'll slide it into the next movie, hoping we'll pass over the fact that it wasn't even in the fifth movie even though it was supposed to be. They didn't even show them going to the hospital and seeing Neville's parents. Oh no...Neville is nothing in the book. He's only practically Harry's equal with the prophecy, and an important character for the DA, the Ministry break-in, and helps them greatly later on. And while we're on this prophecy business...he took it off the shelf, it showed Trelawny's ******** picture and began to speak, just because he took it off the shelf. It had to be broken to be heard. All of the other prophecies that came tumbling off the shelves were heard quite clearly, and they hadn't been picked up, just smashed to pieces like they all should have been. I can't believe they cut Harry's hair. And they told almost nothing about the Order, I know some of my details may sound petty, but they're actually real significant to the story. Ugh. Yuck. This movie made me sick. I was offended, quite honestly. I can't believe someone actually put this piece of crap together. I can't believe someone actually produced it, quite honestly. It was the worst Harry Potter movie made to date. By far.

Disturbia
Shia LeBeouf plays this kid who's going through his "I'm a badass, moody teenager" phase, and does the whole "I'm mad because I lost my father unexpectedly so I'm going to take it out on the world". He ends up on house arrest for the summer, he's attracted to his hot new neighbor, and he finds out another of his neighbors is a complete psycho who gets the ladies liquored up, brings them home, and kills them...for...some reason. You know, they never really explain that part... Anyway, so it's about him trying to get the evidence to expose his neighbor before it's too late, but since he's a "bad boy", the cops believe the older gentleman. I guess it was interesting enough. I thought the characters were decent. The movie wasn't a masterpiece or anything, but I do believe it's worth seeing.
