What Goes Bump in the Night
A Private RP between:

Eirdirsceol and Rivener

-------------------------

Location: Aphi and Isi's House
Time: Late Evening
Status: Ongoing

Eiry slowly reached up for the window's edge and pulled himself up to peer through. His eyes focused on the dark figure slowly coming out of the marsh and he inhaled sharply when the dark figure stepped onto the recently cut lawn. When he realized who it was, Eiry's heart (well, he called it a heart) fluttered wildly and he drew his broken wing tighter to his back. The figure coming ever nearer to the tree house was indeed the malevolent ghost they had met before: Edgar.

When Edgar's hand slowly curled around the rope ladder, Eiry scuttled to the rope ladder and tried to untie it from the secure holds hammered into the wood. When he couldn't untie them (Isi's good at knots), Eiry let out a terrified cry, "Brother, it's Edgar!"

Rivener, who'd been watching from the window, inhaled sharply when he heard Eiry's words. Surely Eiry wouldn't joke about that!! Without thinking, Riv flung himself out the window and flapped his wings strongly, gaining speed. He practically crashed into the treehouse, barging in through one of the too-small windows, scraping himself all over in the doing. He tumbled onto the floor and slammed into the wall, but got up immediately, disregarding the stinging scratches.

A quick look around showed him the way of things; Eiry was here, trying to do something to the rope ladder; a glance down the hatch showed the hated Edgar. Roaring loudly, Riv shoved himself between Edgar and Eiry, and slashed the rope ladder, sending it falling to the ground. "LEAVE US ALONE!" he yelled at the ghost.

Dammit! He cursed inwardly. He hadn't had time to put his plan into action yet! He didn't have any of the Holy Water Isi used last time, and he had no way of getting Eiry's powers quickly enough to save them from the ghost...

"I thought he was bound to the cemetary!" Riv hissed at his brother, his question desperate.

Eiry had just enough time to push himself out of the way when Rivener threw himself through the window of the tree house and just enough time to press himself up to the wall when Rivener clawed at the rope ladder. His minty bangs tapped lightly on his eyes until he brushed them out of the way in time to open his red eyes and see Rivener floating before him. Trying to keep himself from quivering against the wall, Eiry pushed himself up to his brother's level.

"I thought he was too! That's what Isi said!" Eiry glanced warily out the hatch and then back to Rivener, "Brother, what are we going to do?" he asked. To Rivener's eyes, Eiry looked to be just the little scared frei he first appeared to be at the Lab. His hair was tussled messily, his broken wing was tucked tightly to his back so only wisps of it could be seen over his shoulder, and his large ruby eyes were searching Rivener's face for an answer.

"Ah, the protective one ... You didn't notice that there were more than one entrance to the tree house did you?" came Edgar's sleazy voice from down below. He was unconcerned when the ladder had been cut. There was a rope with knots on the other side and a fold down ladder that Isi had made since it would make his journey into the tree house easier than a rope ladder.

Rivener snarled down the hatch at Edgar. "You go back to HELL you cursed demon-!@#$%^&%!!!!!!" The string of obscenities was not something that came often out of Rivener's mouth, but he said it with as much venom as he could produce in his wing-tips. He slammed the hatch door shut and turned to Eiry.

"Alright, we have to get out of here and back to the house to find Holy Water. We'll go out the window; I can fly and carry you," Rivener said, knowing he was strong enough. Eiry hardly weighed anything at all. "Do you know where Isi keeps the holy water?"

Already Riv was at the window, pulling off side panels, tugging with all his might against the wood and nails, making room for Eiry to exit without hurting himself. He floated out, making sure Edgar wasn't within arm's reach yet, and he motioned for his brother to come. "Hurry!" he added, noting Edgar starting to climb the Isi-accessible stair.

Edgar laughed his chalk-against-blackboard laugh, slowly ascending the stair, "Is that the best you can do?"

Eiry stayed close to his brother, watching with worried brows as he ripped and tore at the window to make it larger. He kept glancing over his shoulder towards the doorway where he knew Edgar would soon be appearing in. Now his brother was outside the window and motioning for him to come. With a gulp, he replied, "I think he keeps it in the attic." He reached for the window and carefully pulled himself through, then he muttered with defeat, "This is all my fault, isn't it?"

With a sudden gasp, Eiry was jerked a bit back into the tree house as Edgar, who had increased his speed for the sake of catching the meddlesome raevans, clawed at the minty frei's ribbon. Digging his pale fingers into the wood of the window, Eiry braced himself against the pull and tried to pull himself out.

Rivener was about to reply to his brother when Eiry was suddenly tugged back inside. Glancing past the ghostly Raevan, Rivener spotted Edgar. He had already gotten there! Baring his fangs, Riv tried to think of some way to...

His eyes lit up. Of course! It might not be as good as ghost-poison, but it might do the trick long enough to get Eiry out of here and into the house.

"Sorry, brother," Riv said as he dug his nails into one of Eiry's arms, drawing four long scratches along the other's forearm. He immediately after threw himself at the maniacal ghost, slashing at the man's throat with his claws, covered in Eiry's blood... Hopefully, the blood would make him able to touch Edgar! He only needed to cut once, one cut, and while Edgar recovered from the shock and surprise, Riv could fly off with Eiry.

Edgar was laughing at the situation. It was the same as before! Reaching out with a hand to grasp at the darker Raevan once he came too near, the ghost completely disregarded the claws coming straight for his neck...

Confused by Rivener's sudden apology, what Eiry was going to ask erupted from his throat as a hoarse shriek as his brother raked his nails deep into his arm. The cold dark blood began to dribble along his arm and Eiry panted heavily, startled as Rivener pushed himself through the window and launched himself at their foe. Eiry was jerked again from the window sill as Edgar whipped his arm back and this time his weak grip couldn't hold. He fell from the window and hit the ground with a quick 'thump' but his inbred ability to float, thanks to the Yggdrasil leaf, dragged him back into the air.

Unfortunately for Rivener, the situation was exactly like it was before. His nails flew straight through the ghost's neck and he found himself unbalanced. Edgar released his laugh once more and used the now-freed Eiry to slam Rivener into the wall. The minty green frei had shrieked again at the impact, for it had slammed into his broken wing.

"Foolish beasts," Edgar chuckled, releasing Eiry's ribbon, "You haven't learned from your past experience with me. That is a terrible mistake to make."

"You cannot blame them, Edgar," came another voice. There, standing in the doorway was yet another body. It was see-through, just like Edgar's, but it had a sturdy-looking appearance. Instead of some creepy looking man with hollowed cheeks, it was a young looking man with a white shirt, wool pants tucked into leather boots, suspenders, and a paper boy's cap. A book was clutched in one hand and his other was rolled up into a tight fist. "You're not allowed in this area, you know that. This is my turf."

"Your turf," echoed Edgar in a delighted chuckle. He clearly didn't have any respect for the young man in the doorway, "But they're my kill, got it? Just get out of here, bookworm."

"This is MY turf," the young man stated flatly again. Without a second blink, the man launched himself at Edgar and slammed the book across the older ghost's face. Edgar was thrown a couple steps away from the fallen raevans and he tried to regain his balance. In the meanwhile, the young ghost turned to Rivener and Eiry, "Get out of here, quickly," he said, "Get the holy water. I'll try and hold this old man here."

Rivener scrambled back up from the wall. He'd not been able to hit the ghost yet, and the blood on his claws was drying quickly... he might not be able to touch him when the blood was completely dry! He was about to launch himself at Edgar again when another ghost had shown up.

This one was on their side, it seemed! How lucky for them! Although Riv hated leaving without giving that damned Ghost a taste of his sharp claws, he needed to see to Eiry's safety first. Riv hurried to his brother's side, carefully lifted him into his arms, and flew out the window as fast as he could.

"Sorry about your arm," he said as they flew. "I think I would have been able to touch him if your blood was on my claws, since you're part ghost and all..."

Not bothering to go through the doors, Riv entered back through the painting room's window, from where the attic was only a short distance. He put Eiry down in the room and already he hurried to the stairs. "Come help me find the holywater!" he said.

"It's alright, brother," Eiry mumbled, he glanced once at the tree house where he knew Edgar and that familiar ghost battled. There was a small feeling in his chest that felt like he was forgiven by his brother, but he didn't want to jump to conclusions. The fact that his brother came to help him proved that Rivener still cared, but that didn't mean he wasn't still angry at him for playing that trick. After he was settled down, he hugged himself, trying to ignore the renewed pain in his wing and his arm, and followed after Rivener.

As soon as they got to the door, they flung it open and raced up the dusty stairwell into the dark reaches of the attic. At first, they couldn't see anything, but then their eyes adjusted and the could finally see the skyscrapers of boxes and hunched over shapes of old furniture and blanketed couches.

Sitting on one of the chairs was Fletcher, the little ghost boy that most often appeared to the inhabitants of the old home. He glanced up at the newcomers, made a worried face and tilted his head.

Eiry floated softly over to Fletcher and asked in a hushed whisper, "Holy water. Where did Isi put it?"

Fletcher tilted his head and opened his mouth, but no words came out of his mouth.

Apparently, though, Eiry could understand him because he replied, "Edgar's back ... No, he's out of the marsh. He's here, fighting with Percy ... He might need your help, yeah, but before you go, we need Holy Water. Do you know where it is?"

Fletcher nodded at Eiry and pointed to the far corner of the room, where an old commode rested, half-covered with white fabric. He then "hopped" down from where he sat, and turned into a small ball of light that buzzed right through the wall, supposedly headed for the treehouse.

Rivener, who had been watching Fletcher and Eiry interacting, rushed for the commode immediately. He opened the doors quickly but carefully, not wanting to possibly knock over any bottles that might be inside.

He breathed a happy sigh when he spotted the four-litre water bottle, with a handful of smaller light-bulb sized vials around it. The water battle, once labeled "aquapur", had its logo scratched out and replaced with a holy cross. Seems they were well-stocked.

"Here," Riv said, handing a few vials to Eiry before taking a few himself. He paused when he saw Eiry clutching at his arm. "Are you hurt? do you want me to use the numbing poison like last time?"

Then another thought occured to him, and he glanced at the holy water. "Eiry... do you think I could touch ghosts if I put holy water on my claws?" He knew the poison thing wouldn't work on Edgar, but he'd be damned if that ghost got away again without Riv doing at least SOME harm to it.

The ghostly frei shrugged weakly as he juggled the bottles in his hands until he found a way to hold them and clutch at his arm at the same time, "Please?" he said in response to Rivener's first question. Raising his gaze and shaking the bangs out of his eyes, he continued softly, "My wing hurts... Um... I don't know. I'm sure the holy water will hurt him, but I'm not too sure if the holy water will make you able to touch ghosts. I guess we'll have to wait and see." Being unable to answer Riv's question, Eiry made a mental note to sit down and chat with Fletcher so he'd be able to answer questions next time. He felt a bit bad for not being able to answer questions that he should know answers to, but then again, he was just a frei after all.

Rivener closed the commode again, and inched forward, bringing his stinger around and aiming it carefully at the base of the broken wing. He stung there once.

"I can't sting your arm, since it'll make you unable to use your fingers. You might need them. I'll sting that later, after this is taken care of."

Leading the way, Rivener started back downstairs to the paintroom. From here he could spot the treehouse; the ghosts had move out of the small cabin and were fighting on the ground under the tree. Edgar was having the upper hand, stronger than the bookish man or Fletcher, but they were doing a good job at keeping him busy.

"Here, hold these,"
Riv said, giving Eiry his vials. "I'll carry you out, and divebomb at Edgar; you throw the vials at him, alright?"
PostPosted: Sun Jul 15, 2007 10:48 am

Eiry shifted uncomfortably as the numbness of the sting's poison slowly spread across his wing. He never really enjoyed the feeling and how it made his wing stiff and hard to handle since he couldn't feel it anymore. On the upside, the pain was hidden, but on the downside, Eiry couldn't draw his wing to his back to protect it anymore. Now it kind of hung limply as he fought to keep it up.

Glancing up at Rivener with his large little brother I'm-totally-depending-on-you eyes, Eiry nodded his head like a bobble head as the bottles were stuffed into his arms. He glanced to the area underneath the tree house and gulped. The bookish man had tackled Edgar to the ground and was trying to get a good pummel on the ghostly murderer.

"Okay, brother," Eiry quipped, flapping his good wing and lowering his head so he could look determined and ready for battle like Rivener did.

Rivener scooped up his lighter-than-a-feather brother, making sure he was holding the broken wing securely in place. He then flew out the window and glared at Edgar.

Not knowing if the holy water would hurt the good ghosts too, Riv decided it was a good idea to just wait until they had a clearer shot of Edgar. The chance came soon enough; the murderer pushed the bookish man off and turned to be on top, raising his fist to slam down on the other's face.

Riv dove. He hoped Eiry was ready!
