A light sigh breezed through the opening of his small mouth, flying into the open air in a new form. He sat himself cross-legged underneath a giant tree in the small area of the forest, the shade provided from the flourishing summer leaves helping keep him cooler in this weather. Arc was incredibly prone to sunlight, and had never faired well against it. Plus it was much easier to read a book when you were able to focus on it more than the heat flashes you were getting.

So here he was, flipping aimlessly through the pages of his brown book endlessly. He finished the book yesterday for what seemed like the fifth time and just continued reading it over and over again and again. It was strange, yes, but he just loved the writing. The book was on the history of black and white magic and the legendary mages tat practiced it years before his own birth. His friends called him weird for continuously reading it, but he could really care less. He was the shy, quite bookworm after all.

Today was such a wonderful day for flying!

Too bad one little Kunkun couldn't partake in such a wonderous activity. It didn't mean she couldn't enjoy the nice weather. Walking along with her humorously-large plush blue cat dragging along behind her, she amused herself with humming and looking at all the pretty scenery around her. The plush itself seemed rather worn out and was approximately half the size of the pale Kunkun. As she walked around, she sweetly spoke as if having a conversation, but who she was talking to wasn't apparent. The only clue would be the name she kept referring to.

"Rufus, I think the sun is getting a bit warm."

Thoughtful pause.

"...oh! We should go into the shade of the tree? ..... yeah, a break does sound like a good idea!"

Cheerfully, the black-eyed creature toddled on over to the tree where another of her kind was reading. Being the friendly sort, she wanted to say hi, but she was also of the shy sort too. Instead, she toddled to another groove in the tree's bark and nestled up, pulling her plush toy to her body and hugging onto it.

"Rufus, this feels so much better now, you are a very smart kitty!" With a giggle, she continued to converse with her toy, accepting his silence as answers to her ears.

He was scanning his eyes over page fifteen of his old book, taking in every last detail of the text thoughtfully. Every time he read or reread a book he would always try his best to commit the story's details to memory. Most people found it difficult to remember a book word for word but after reading this book so many times he could easily put on a one-man show just based on the two hundred or more paged novel.

His word-for-word processing crashed quickly without a hitch when a small feminine voice entered his elven ears. Brown eyes darted away from the book, his hands subconsciously closing the old novel, and looked around him. The voice was close by, but he didn't see anyone. Clumsily he picked himself up from the ground, his book close by his side and his started to circle the tree.

By the time he got to the other side of the place he once sat at he noticed a kunkun girl, clutching an old teddy bear...cat to her chest. She was apparently talking to the bear, bug eyes blinking at it. It was only when he subconsciously moved closer to her was when he noticed her pixie wings. They seemed to be a bit tattered, almost broken, and were a lighter shade of blue than her skin.

"Um...hello?" He started off nervously, putting up the hand that wasn't holding his book in the air as a sign of peace.

Her conversation with Rufus came abruptly to a hault as another voice ventured into the conversation, and rather rudely too! Her pure black eyes widened drastically and she let out a surprised squeak. Her little body also seemed to jump a bit from the interuption.

One very good description of this girl was the fact she was nervous. It soon became quite apparent as a clinking sound began to call out into the air. It sounded like glass beating against glass, but in reality it was just Ophelia's wings beating against each other as they nervously flittered upon her back. It was a very bad habit of hers, but she couldn't help it.

"...um... uh... hello?" she eventually dared to squeak out. She still seemed edgy, and clung onto the plush feline about the neck, almost as if in a choking grip. Rufus didn't mind though, for he had no bones, just fluff to make Ophelia feel happy.

Arc recoiled back a bit himself at her apparent flinching. He didn't think that he would pose that much of a surprising shock to the girl. The brown haired kunkun reclaimed his composure quite quickly though, only to notice that now the young girl's wings were flapping against each other quite nervously. His eyes traced back to her face, and felt a small pang of remorse at her distraught look. Did he do something wrong?

Her arms wounded tightly around the stuffed kitty that she held in her arms, squeaking back a greeting to him. His polite smile turned into a sadden frown. He wanted to move forward to try and comfort the girl, but seeing how she reacted to just a simple hello he decided against it for her sake.

"Are you okay?" He asked cautiously, looking at her solemnly. Arc's nature proned him to be upset when he caused innocent others any kind of harm. Being younger he remembered always being picked on by the other children of his village, which led him to be so shy and isolated. If it wasn't for his foster brother he didn't know where he would be in the area of social sanity right now.

It would take a little bit of time, but the wings would eventually quiet themselves down.

"...Ophelia is okay... you just scared Ophelia a little..." the girl finally answered, her childish manner of speaking coming forth rather easily. Her ears twitched a little bit, and her eyes drifted down to her plush again. Nodding her head, she then looked at the other Kunkun and translated a question:

"...Rufus wants to know what your name is..." With a little bit of effort, the Kunkun girl stood herself up onto her hooves and brushed off her legs a bit. She held the giant plush up to her still, but she seemed to be much better than before.

Arc looked the kunkun girl with a little bit of confusion. Ophelia? That was clearly her name, but why was she addressing and talking in the third-person? Arc made a small sigh, reforming a small smile on his face at her reply. He was glad she was okay now, noticing her face becoming less distraught towards him and her wings slowly stopping.

"Well, I'm sorry about scaring you like that. It was my fault for just coming out of nowhere like that." A small memory flashed from the corner of his eye. He was remembering how scared he was when someone he didn't know—he found out later they were called strangers—would just start talking to him out of nowhere. These days most of those 'strangers' were either peopled that bullied him or friends.

"Rufus?" Arc thought aloud, blinking at the kunkun as she picked herself up. He looked at the stuffed kitty she was holding onto, realizing she was talking about the toy. So that was the 'Rufus' she was talking to before he noticed her. "Oh, right my name! I'm Arc, and it's nice to meet you Ophelia and Rufus," he greeted with a smile, putting his spare fingerless gloved hand in the middle space between himself and Ophelia.

Being vaguely familiar with the gesture offered, Ophelia assisted Rufus in offering a paw to Arc. Rufus was the one who asked the name, so Rufus should get the pleasure of the handshake, correct?

"Arc is a funny name!" the girl giggled slightly, being very honest about her opinion.

In a strange gesture of her own, the girl then leaned in a bit. Her antennae which seemed almost decorative upon her head, suddenly twitched a bit. In her own strange way, she began to get familiar with this other by letting her antennae tap up against the top of Arc's head. They were very sensitive, so she was very gentle. Though it might have seemed odd to others, she found it perfectly normal.

"Nice to meet you!"

Arc looked again in confusion when Ophelia put out Rufus's arm, expecting him to shake the kitty's paw. Though that confusion was immediately dispelled as he took the soft plush paw and lightly moved it up and down in a small shake. Looking again at the girl he realized that while they were almost the same size she seemed a lot more younger. It was clear that she was still a child, and like a child she acted like one. He smiled at this though, realizing how quickly people grew up in today's age. Arc was glad that she wasn't growing up so fast. That way she can still retain a naive lifestyle.

"W-well, I mean Arc is strange, but I don't think it's that funny," he stammered embarrassingly, letting go of the doll's arm and using the same hand to ruffle the back of his hair sheepishly.

Though Arc wasn't prepared for her to put the antennas that stuck out of the center of her forehead much closer to his forehead, but he kept relax as she did so. She obviously wasn't like the average kunkun and that was okay. He was always meeting others that had much different customs than he had.

"It's nice to meet you too, Ophelia," he said softly to her as she kept her close distance to his face. He was feeling a bit unnerved as he never had someone of the opposite or same gender so close to him.

The girl was quite pleased when Arc played along and shook Rufus' paw. Once the shake was complete, she pulled him back to the safety of her arms. She continued to tap her antennae for a little bit longer, then retreated as well.

Once more, she seemed to take the shy mannerisms as she held Rufus up closely to herself and pulled him up to her lips. Her black doll eyes widened a bit as she took in Arc completely now. He had something in his hand on one side, and he had lots of pretty clothing. She thought back to if she had any pretty clothing of her own, but found nothing coming to mind at all.

"...what's that you have there?" she asked while pointing to Arc's hand which had a book. It was hard to recognize it as a book, but that was because all books she had ever seen prior were human-sized and very large in comparison to herself.

As Ophelia pulled away Arc blinked slowly to see she was yet again clutching onto the toy kitten like it was her very being. Remembering how she was talking to it earlier he began to think that maybe the girl was lonely. Small fragments of memories warped into his mind, remembering how shy and isolated he used to be. Before he could learn to read he took comfort in his own stuff animal, which his foster mother had especially crafted for him.

He noticed her eyes widen at him, but he didn't really know for what reason. Did he have something on his face? Why the last time he ate was a few hours ago, so that surely wasn't possible. Yet at the mention of his small book he brought the hardcover copy to his chest.

"Oh you mean my book, right?" He started of curiously, looking down with a small blush. Of course she meant his book, he wasn't holding anything else! "It's my favorite book on black and white magic. I already read it, but I always read it over and over! My friends say I should just get another book already, but I don't want to." Way to go, Arc. Ramble to your new friend. Smart idiot.

"...book?..." Ophelia repeated carefully as she eyed the small piece of literature carefully. It didn't look even close to the books she had learned origami from. She was able to sit in the pages and had to get up each time to turn the page. It was a chore, but it was all fun as well.

Using her wonderful sense of logic, the girl stated what she felt was the truth: "It must be an easy book because it is so small! You can't even sit on the pages of that one! I learned origami from a book, but it was much, much, much, much larger than yours!"

Arc look a bit happy for a moment when she took an interest in his book but his cute look dispelled when she used some strange form of logic. If it's small it's easy? Most of the smallest books have such small text that it can go on for hundreds of pages. Has she ever seen how small Catcher and the Rye was?!

"N-no, that's not it at all! It's a very good read, really~! Haven't you ever heard of don't judge a book by it's cover." Okay well they weren't even talking about covers, they were talking about book sizes. But that wasn't the point...well not the whole point at least!

"Origami? That sounds interesting!" He suddenly popped out of nowhere, hoping to derail the subject and get onto a new page of their own book. That and he didn't want to seem too embarrassed about how little his book was. Did he even notice how small it was before? He has been absorbing himself in the book too much.

A blank look followed Arc's wise-saying. In all honesty, she had never heard that phrase. She'd blink before she even attempted to understand it. However, even such "concentration" was easily derailed as a better suited topic came up: one dealing more-so about herself.

Bouncing in place, she answered with a smile "Origami is very-very-very-very-very fun!! It is 'an ancient Japanese art of paper-folding'... it is very-very-very difficult though, but once you learn it... it is just fun!!!" She paused and shifted Rufus to being held by one arm and she used her hand to try and form a make-shift bird with her fingers.

It didn't look remotely like what the girl imagined it to be, but she then continued with her explanation: "My favorite thing to fold is the peace crane... if you fold 1,000 of them, your deepest wish will come true!!" Her little wings gently fluttered, though much more carefully so that they didn't beat against themeselves. Her smile easily revealed her reason for taking up such a hobby.
