For those of you, like me, borning in the Eighties, you more then likely owned, saw, heard of Transformers. It started off a toyline gathered of smaller series from japan and made into one storyline in America thanks to Hasbro. It featured robots capable of turning into vehicles, hand held objects, and animals (robotic looking of course). As we grew up with them we though how cool it would be if they were rea. Well what's to say they couldn't be made. True robots today don't have the fluid organic movements that the Transformers have, but there are examples of vehicles and hand held devices that can change shape, a tank that can become a boat, cars that can be made into planes, even a larger cell phone that can become a mini laptop. Yeah yeah, I know you're probably saying big deal, bit lets face facts, some of those people, played with Transformers too, so how much longer before we see, manned or unmanned, military or even rescue vehicles that change into a more humanoid form so as to reduce lives lost yet provide the same functionality as a human. What are you're thoughts on the matter

It's hard to say if they could really be made possible. It's just hard to think of this machine having so many parts that it can change into many different things. Maybe I'm not thinking straight, but for some reason, I can't fathom how it could work.

I love transformers, but I'm with Lei, I can't imagine how something could work, but then I don't understand physics or mechanical engeniring. I just know you would need alot of energy.

After thinking about this for a little bit, after my mind got me all confused! xD, my only thought would be that there has to be some sort of wiring to transfer electricity to the different parts. Well, if the transformer were to change, you have the risk of the wires getting all tangled with each other.
Gah, I hop that made any sense! xP

That is indeed a good point, the issue about the wiring. I must say that one might actually need to first understand anatomy in order to make the robot itself, then work out how you could best fold and compress the robotic parts around and into the desired alternate mode. I feel that it would be likely one would need to try the simplest method of changing from one mode to the other and avoid anything too complicated.
((Sorry for being away so long Emily, I've been hella busy in the real world lately sweatdrop ))

Ok, let's look at this. Fluidly-moving humanoid robot. Check 1.Check 2.Check 3.Transforming robot. Check.Fully-Autonomous robot. Not yet, but close. Fully-Autonomous, fluidly-moving transforming robot. Put the pieces that we have already together and it may be a little possible. Now, A sentient being of the aforementioned type is far from being in our possession. Could they exist on some far off alien planet? Maybe. We really can't tell, not until they visit us.

Transformers... well we don't have the technology at the moment, and they wouldn't be like the ones in the movies obviously, but to some extent it is/ will be possible.
Except for getting normal devices to transform of course. Like the mobile phone... what was it shooting? parts of itself? has to run out sometime. Hahah... such a bad movie domokun
I never really got into the whole transformer thing, even before it came big. Still, it would be pretty awesome though.

Im just making a comment but if you saw the movie there the size of a car then when bumblebee transformers hes like 20 times the size of sam. I just don't think something like that could happen because in the movie its as if they just gain matter or something. I think they forgot to take scale into factor when making the movie. But I do believe we could make an advanced robot just not one that transforms.
