Tips on making a good rp?

There are alot out there and there are always people looking to rp, but how do I make a good one, that gets every one interested?

Therein lies the problem. It's not always that easy -- I'd be glad for something to help teach how to create a good RP, myself. Anyone want to run something like that?

Well, it's more thinking of the first adventure hook that I have trouble with, mostly.

True, usually I have some tragic event happen... then that leads them to get revenge or something then the path takes a few side turns... ect

There is a multitude of advice to give; but most tips are bigotted by a specific genre. I guess the best thing I cant tell you is to not be too generic within your role play. Think out of the box, unlike most of the people within Barton Town, concerned only with slave/owner, vampire vs. werewolf, and anime crossover roleplays.

The next thing to be certain of is: no matter what your theme is, it has to be interesting and legible. Keep orginization a key factor, and think of original plot devices that allow a person to get straight into the roleplay. The hardest part of a role play is entering it and staying there. Once the story unfolds, you will not have so much trouble with trying to keep people there.

Normally I would say to have an original story that compels among all other rps out there, but that isn't the truth. Sorry to say, many rpers out there just like to rp the same old stupid stuff.

Forest rps, Ninja rps, fairy/vampire rps, school rps, and elemental rps and it's getting sad. I tried releasing some of my original work here and there, but it really doesn't go anywhere.

yes, vampire roleplays get boring after you join the 3rd one...

i have an idea for an rp, but i'm not sure i wanna put it to use...

... who here thinks that a Bridge to Terebithia rp sounds good? because i just saw the movie yesterday and i liked it. i would really think that would make a good roleplay

To have a good RP you need interesting plot set up and chacters. Your villains should have a reason to do the things they do and your heros must be good!

Most people detest having to be the bad guy. Make it so it is just as good to be the bad guy as it is to be the good guy. If you do that, you RP will be a whole lot better. (You don't need bad people in it. That also helps...)

The of course what everyone else mentioned. Plot, character choice, etc.

rofl I'm one of those people guilty of an elemental RP. But in my case, it was an idea that I came up with years ago. I tried it in my old RP guild but that guild never managed to get it's feet off the ground in general. When I joined here, I decided to start it again. It wasn't till after I had that I noticed how many Elemental RP/themes there are now. I was poking around the guild and Barton town and kind of like "Wow"

I think it's really important to have an interesting hook. Something original is good. What others have said has been pretty good in that area. Another note is getting people involved in the RP. Especially at the beginning it can be hard to make it easy for everyone to get involved and be able to start RPing (Unless they're walking around by themselves) so if you can find a way to pull people in, it'll help a lot and get an active RP faster.

Andrew Of Deaths: I saw the movie when it was in theaters. But anyway, how would you be able to make one? First of all, it didn't have much of a plot to it, and secondly, Leslie, who is one of the main characters, dies. So really, what would you do to make it better than the movie and book? I'm not saying you shouldn't try to do it, but think about the questions I just asked you so you can make it better,

1. i know it didn't have a plot, but still, it's a place where your imagination runs wild, say the 'troll' they met at school was the troll in Terabithia. the players won't be in Terabithia forever, otherwise their imagination wouldn't be able to make the creatures of Terabithia.

2. a good question. only their friendship held the rope that allowed them to cross, thus without her friend, the rope broke and Leslie drowned in the creek. but that's not the answer to the question. the end of the movie leaves Terabithia unexplored, leaving a whole world for the players to explore, their imaginations would be able to run wild, they can create the good and evil in Terabithia, just as Leslie and Jess did.

My RP has slaves/masters in it. That, and dragons. Two cliches, right? I always say that the devil is in the details. Check out Feretris and tell me what you think. xd
