[This is going to be short.]

Brightness...

All she could remember was brightness...

You know, it was one thing to arrest someone for snatching up a reaaaallly cool pair of sunglasses. It would be great if they could just, you know, give that person a good, stern talking to. Let them on their way, you know? It's not like it was her fault. So, why, then, did three large, dar-suited men coming barging in the Macy's where she was held, interrogate her for three hours, and then proceed to sedate her?

Furthermore...where the hell was she?

Ugh...it felt like she was lying on some sort of table, but it was unable to tell. Until she gathered the strength to look around, all that would make sense was...well, actually nothing. ********, this was not cool.

It took her a while to convince herself that it would be a good idea to, indeed, open her eyes. As long as her eyes stayed shut she could pretend it was all a dream and then... Shut up, Tau. That romantic stuff never gets anyone anywhere. Even with this 'stern self-talking to' it was easier to just lie there. Lie there a wait.

Wait... what was she waiting for? She'd waited at Macy's for hours only to be interrogated. After that she'd waited for-- f**k, she didn't remember. Well, she could wait her with her eyes closed or wait here with her eyes open. I choose... eyes open.

Waiting wasn't much different with open eyes. Now she saw the ceiling instead of darkness. Well, as long as I'm awake... Tau decided it wouldn't hurt to look around. Where was she anyway?

You were in what appeared to be a white padded cell. There wasn't necessarily anything discernible, really. Just a domelight above, filling the room with dull brightness...and some pads. Yeaaaahhhh...

That was about it, up above. To the sides...

Left bore a door, padded like the rest of the room. There seemed to be a small metal slot at eyelevel. Creepy, but secure.

The right was a little more interesting. There was a simple wall unit, definitely mechanical...hanging there. It was a small black rectangle, and sort of looked like a police walkie-talkie. Not bad. It looked like it might work, too. At the top, near what seemed to be the antenna, a small red light hung like a bright crimson droplet.

Cozy.

As for you...you were bound. By metal cord. Wire, if you will. Not a bad idea...it made it less glamorous to struggle. You know, with all the cutting and bleeding and ouchies that ensued. Not fun. The table was more of a metal slab, and though it was hard to tell just where its wires led, they seemed to fasten under the thing.

You were wearing a white gown. Hospital style. Ohhh yeah.

Actually, oh no. Those things were not your style at all.

Padding? What the hell is this? I'm not crazy... Tau closed her eyes very tightly and hoped this was just a dreadful hangover or some side-effect of those antidepressants she had taken two nights ago. And...open! Nothing. Well, nothing except this infuriating white and padded room.

She pushed and pulled against the wires a little more, not caring about the blood. What she wanted was a lock, or something. One hand she pleaded, gritting her teeth to keep from biting her lip or tongue. I just need one fricking hand.

Blinded by her stubborn ambition, or maybe that's not the word... nonetheless, she twisted, turned, angled, pulled... anything that might get her left hand free enough so that she could feel around under the table.

She hoped the cuts weren't too deep, but if they were... well, that's life. Red was more her color than white anyways.

[Could you explain how rolling works here? I looked but couldn't find it anywhere else. (It may be that I'm really bad at looking though....)]

[Sure. See "post action" right above the text field? It's a drop down. You'll find all of your rolling needs in there.]

The twisting worked quite well!! Huzzah! A hand was-OH DEAR LORD!

The flesh just under your palm had been completely peeled back, separated from the rest of the member. The expected pain was not present, however...yet it seemed that this had more to do with sheer shock...in fact, the more you examine it, the more the searing pain creeps through your arm. Blood is dripping now, all over most of what should be the floor below. Not like you could tell anyways...

Veins. Just a few showed, but its was enough. You had to be more careful...laying off the left hand would be a great idea, as would be rolling back the spotted white underlay of your hand-flesh. God, the blood was going everywhere! In all honesty, you were lucky you didn't sever anything major. With wire like that...the whole floor could be covered in red right now.

Ouch.

Tau scolded herself harshly, moving into words not yet contrived by the human race. Stubbornness had its downside... this being one of them. She lay very still, squeezing her eyes shut one more time. However, this time she didn't try to wake up from a dream. She was just trying not to weep... or scream.

The scream stuck in her throat, rubbing it raw. But it didn't escape. If there was one thing she was good at, it was holding her tongue. She never talked. Never broke. She did, much to her disgust, cry... and fairly easily. The salt of her tears mingled with the sweat and the taste brought her back to the moment. No more self-chastising. First things first.

She carefully dabbed her palm against the metal slab, trying to reposition her filleted skin. The coolness of her highly uncomfortable bed was quite soothing. When she thought that she had done her best concerning her hand, she craned her head back, to the right and to the left. Walkie-talkie... door.

Dropping her chin to her chest, she tried to see how many wires were holding her down. How slippery were they with blood? She was smart enough to know that she shouldn't try to shimmy her way out, but was adventurous enough to consider it. Still, she didn't move until she further assessed the information.

She tried some slight movement in her left fingers too. Was it just her palm or were her fingers useless too? She hated useless.

((Tau))

She probably could move the fingers of her left hand...but it hurt all too much to even try. It was almost like the body rejected any notion of moving it right now.

There were...about 8 wires holding her down. A shimmy move, however, might not be all too smart. The wires holding her wrists were far to tight for anything of that nature...

[Don't mind that number.]

Since her stubbornness had progressed to stupidity, Tau decided to lay still for a while. Her hand hurt... she tucked this story away to tell later. For now, she turned her head to the left and decided to watch the door. Closely. Maybe someone would come and look in... maybe they would see the blood... and if no one came soon...

She would yell like all hell was breaking loose.

Five more seconds... four... three... two... one...

Action.

Tau took as deep a breath as she could with the wires and started shouting. "AGH! My Hand! My hand! Oh God! I'm bleeding out. AHH! Someone help! Help!" And so on and so forth.

Hopefully she wouldn't attract the wrong kind of attention. If no one showed up at that door in about three minutes, she planned on stopping. She might need her voice later.

((Tau))

Nope. Nothing. What was it with this place?

[0]

Wait. The radio...it began to crackle...

zzzckkk...Tau. Tau, can you hear me?..z..zz....

An elderly man's voice floated into the room. At least, it sounded elderly. The voice had a cold yet pleasant touch to it, almost completely indifferent. Had this man heard your cries? More importantly, who was he? Though it was hard to tell much from the short lines he sputtered out, it was better than silence.

Meanwhile, your hand went numb. Some of the bleeding subsided, but it still REALLY sucked.
