Somehow managing to escape from under the keen eye of her father, Blackfire stumbled, wobbled, toddled, and "walked" her way through the forest, entering a small, but nice looking clearing. It was but mid-morning, but the day held promise of a bright, beautiful day; however, the half-kalona foal chose to ignore the beauty of the nature around her as she explored for... whatever it was she was exploring for.
Her father had been hard to escape, but Blackfire liked to think that her father was just teaching her to be quick and subtle, fast but quiet. It stood to reason she wanted to please her parents, but especially considering who her sire was--whom she thought was probably the most impressive creature in the land, but that was merely her thoughts--Blackfire found that it was extremely necessary to prove she was as tough as her sister Hinode...
...Who, in her own way, she envied. Hinode had everything from their father, and Blackfire had all the traits of her mother. Now, Blackfire didn't hate her mother--she loved her, of course--but she desperately had wanted to be like her father. Windflame's voice had been soothing to her while she had been imprisoned within her basket but... her attention taken by the sparkle of something, she managed to walk--sort of--to the small, clear pond in the middle of the clearing.
Peering in, she saw a reflection of herself--not that she knew this--and smiled at the "newcomer". "Hello!" she told it cheerfully, thinking maybe a nicer approach wouldn't scare it away. Which it didn't--yay! As she stepped closer, she suddenly found herself losing balance... and with a cry of surprise, with an additional sound of a splash, found herself wet to her very ears. Blackfire had taken a trip into the pond.

He had been minding his business, nor at least pretending to. He loved to stick his nose in where it wasn't wanted a splash caught his attention. He turned to where the sound came from and quickly ran to where it was, nearly forgetting to stop and close to falling in himself.
He managed to stop and when he saw the filly he started laughing. He couldn't help it, she was so wet and had wings like his sister. He started to imagine his sister in her place and that made him laugh even more.
"You like swimming or something?" He managed to call out to her in between his bursts of laughter. What foal wouldn't laugh at the sight before him?

Pouting slightly at her state, Blackfire didn't notice she had company until it came running in, skidding to a stop before it fell into the water itself. Looking up, she found herself facing a dark brown foal with touches of gold in odd places, and... stripes. And then he laughed at her. Hiding back the hurt and the tears, she managed to pick her way through the water, scowling half-heartedly at the other foal.
Sniffling--and trying her best to hide the tears--she glared at the colt. "I don't know what 'swimming' is, but it certainly wasn't that," she huffed, sticking her nose up in the air. She also didn't know what the meaning of the word "certainly" was, but she had heard her father say it enough times to use it herself. "Who are you, anyway? And quit laughing! It's not funny! I could've gotten hurt or something! What if you fell in and someone laughed at you like that!?"
Suddenly, an idea popped into her head. Grinning evilly, she stood next to the cold, and with a hard shake to dry herself off, splashed droplets of water everywhere... including on the colt. "I'm all good now," she said chirped cheerfully. Turning so that her striking blue eyes could observer her new companion, she was startled to see that the colt had a horn. She hadn't noticed it earlier because all she had seen was dark brown and gold and spots... and such.
Airing out her wings by continuously flapping them--they made her feel so heavy!--she waited for the colt's reply, and then remembered she hadn't yet introduced herself. Trying to make herself appeared dignified--how did her Daddy do it so well!?--she said with as much a regal voice as she could (in what she figured was a regal voice), she said, "Well, we met in a weird way, but I'm Blackfire."

He couldn't stop laughing, her attempt at a come back just made him laugh more. What if he fell in? Well he would deserve to be laughed at obviously! In fact he would probably laugh too!
"Join in laughing! Its funny!" He was amused, really amused but he calmed himself down as she got him a little wet, though it was only water so he didn't really care much. After all she had feathered wings so she still had it worse then he did.
"I am Meshach." He still didn't like this whole introduction thing but then everyone seemed to do it so he did too. He would never start an introduction though not unless he was showing off.

Weird. That was the only word she could describe this guy; what, did he think he was better than her or something? Just because he had a horn, probably! And that weird tail... whatever! Blackfire had just recently emerged into the world, so she didn't realize that she was speaking with a unicorn. "Yeah, well, you're weird if you would join in laughing. It's embarrassing!" She'd heard her mother say that... "embarrassing"... she wasn't sure if had used it right either... but oh well.
She wanted to stick her tongue out at him so badly, but didn't because it would make her look silly. Thinking, she decided she would try to do what her father--and probably her sister--would do. She glowered at him. Well, tried to. His amusement was getting to her. "Hello, Meshach," she said politely. "If it's so funny, I'm sure you'd enjoy looking like a wet rabbit," she growled. "Would you like to try it?" She smiled as sweetly as she could before turning to shove him into the pond as well.
Served him right for laughing at her, not that she would laugh at him. Turning to see her work, she had to bite her lips. She would be the grown-up here... Blackfire hoped. She wasn't any good at this, and seeing as she hadn't been out in the world for too long, she wasn't sure what to do in this sort of situation. "If my Daddy were here, he'd eat you up in a pinch!" she said, starting to whine, thinking if she made him a little scared, he would stop being so... weird. There was another word for him, but she couldn't place her hoof on it.

He continued to laugh, even as he was pushed in the pond he did nothing but laugh. He was young and enjoyed life, laughed at everything and he was always happy. It was how life should be.
"I'm sure he would, my uncle would eat you up and my aunt. They are big evil Kalona's that eat little annoying foals. Me though, I am special. Unicorns can heal yeah so I will always be healthy!" He stuck his tongue out at her, his small mane dripping water but what did he care? It was all just a game, he was young, why take anything seriously?
He got out the pond and shook his head, sending droplets everywhere, he then laid on the grass and rolled over to that he dried his body on the ground. Not that he minded being wet, in fact he enjoyed it. That was why he rolled in the wet grass in the mornings.

She didn't like the situation she was in one bit. It also didn't occur to Blackfire that she could just merely join in with his laughing; that was the most plausible and sensible decision to come to, but, being Blackfire, she didn't choose such an obvious choice. Instead, the young, dark-furred filly chose to glare at the colt, finding extreme irritation in his endless laughing. Why was he laughing so much and... no way!
Blackfire narrowed her eyes. He certainly didn't look anything close to a Kalona; and boy, did she know what one looked like! Her father was one, for Epona's sake! "Yeah, right! My Daddy's probably way bigger'n your uncle, and he can eat you, and your weird uncle!" Then Meshach said he was a unicorn, and Blackfire had had it. "So that's what you are, you... you... you weirdo!" she accused. "You can't be special if you think Kalona's wouldn't eat you up! I bet your uncle would be scared of my Daddy!
"I thought unicorns were these sweet horses who were really nice and were told to be one of the prettiest horses out there, but you! You aren't even close! Even if you can heal I bet you won't always be healthy!" Blackfire spat with heated anger, feeling insulted that her father would, or might, need help when it came to eating other horses (at least, that's what Meshach's words had seemed to tell her). Now that she thought about it, she realized that Meshach seemed not to care about anything at all. He probably didn't care if his parents might probably do something drastic... or maybe that was just her family. "Besides," she pouted, narrowing her blue eyes, "you smell funny."

Meshach decided to ignore her, he wasn't quite sure what point she was trying to make anyway. He was young and wasn't really in the mood to argue over families not when he could be having lots of fun! He didn't even try to look as if he was listening, he caught the odd word every now and then but he was looking around, up at the sky then to the tree's then at the horizon, she was the least interesting thing around!
He caught her last words and laughed. "You smell funny too. Its the water, makes ya smell." His voice seemed distant as he started to roll in the grass again, it helped the itch on his back and was much more fun then listening to her moan. It was official, all girls were yucky and silly and Meshach was always right so it must be a fact!

He was ignoring her now, and for some reason, that irritated Blackfire even more, but she chose to pound the feeling of annoyance down as she watched Meshach carefully. He was too... goody-ish, in her opinion. Too much smiling, too much laughing. She narrowed her eyes. Wishing she looked more intimidating, she reeled herself back as she tried to avoid falling into laughter as well. Ugh, and he had such a short attention span! (Not that she was any different, but hey, Meshach was a boy, girls had the privilege!)
"Ew, then I don't like water because it makes me smell," Blackfire commented, scrunching her face up in disgust. "But you smell funnier," she pointed out. "Because you have water and dirt on you... eeeeew!" she completed. There was no end to how Meshach kept thinking he was all knowing (yeah, right, she snorted) and after this meeting, Blackfire decided all boys (besides her wonderful Daddy) were disgusting and weird and smelled funny and weird and mean and weird. Yes, boys were weird. When she grew up, Blackfire would make sure to stomp down on any males who thought they could make fun of her.

Meshach just stared at her for a minute. "Why are all girls stupid. Get a brain!" He snorted and turned away from her again. He looked around and decided to go in the water again, maybe splash the filly, so thats what he did.
He walked down into the water and with his tail he was able to scoop some water, though not much, and flick it towards the black filly. It served her right after all! She was female and stupid and really dumb. She deserved to be splashed.

If there was anything Blackfire hated, it had been when she had fallen into the water earlier. Since she was still new to the world she didn't really hate anything, per say, but after what Meshach had just done to her, and what he had just called her, made her hate him even more. "Agh!" she squealed when he splashed her with water.
"Why did you do that!?" she demanded, and then remembered he had just called her stupid. "I'm not stupid! You're stupid, and mean, and icky and stinky and weird!" she named off one after the other, obviously very annoyed. "I hope my daddy or some other Kalona comes to eat you, you meanie!" Still a young filly who hadn't really learned anything, she stuck her tongue out at Meshach, in a way to say she was so much better than him.
"Meanie!"

Meshach ignored the taunts, they weren't anywhere near as good as his anyway and so he splashed her again. Much more fun and without a doubt more interesting.
"You need to lighten up and learn how to play!" He watched her carefully before sending another wave of water towards her using his tail. "I will stop if and when you learn to play and laugh. Otherwise you are stupid. All foals play and laugh, if they don't they stupid." It made sense. All the foals he had met played even the females, which did make this foal stupid.
With his new revelation he swung his tail through the water once more. He had found a whole new love for his tail, its uses seemed to be endless!

"Aaah!" she cried out in surprise, when the colt splashed her again. Argh, why was he so... so... argh! He was just stupid, that's what it was! (Blackfire didn't know how to say he was annoying her; she also didn't know the word 'annoying', so she place 'stupid' in its place.) She glared violently at Meshach. "Stop splashing me!" she practically growled.
"What are you talking about? What's 'playing'?" It was certainly a revelation, this 'playing' thing; she'd never heard of such a thing (like father, like daughter...) and the only thing she knew that was 'playing' was training with her father. Windflame was enormously strict, but he was also teaching her how to protect herself when she was by herself. That didn't count in for the fact how others might laugh at her or fool around like idiots.
"Laugh?" she repeated, confusion appearing on her face, and then she registered what he called her, and she did growl this time. "I'm not stupid! You are, for making up those weird words and... and... splashing me with water!" she nearly screamed, aghast as to why this foal was so irritating. And then she found herself drenched in water once more. She wished she could understand what he was talking about--playing and laughing? What in the world was Meshach talking about?!

He wasn't that stupid and noticed her confusion when he mentioned playing and laughing.
"Do you not know how to play?" He got out the water, dripping wet but he didn't care, he had found a crime against nature, a foal who didn't know how to play.
"Is that why you keep moaning and don't laugh? Have you never raced or splashed someone or anything that is funny?" He was careful not to call her odd or stupid now because he wanted to teach her how to have fun. Once that was complete he would happily insult her again.

She backed away, thoroughly embarrassed that she didn't know what this playing and laughing thing was, and semi-scowled at Meshach. "No, I don't know how to play," she replied, a little angrily.
He was sopping wet! How did he expect her to appreciate the water if it meant she would keep falling in and then he would come and insult her and laugh at her and make fun of her? In Blackfire's mind that was more than enough for her to be a bit wary in case Meshach decided to get her wet again.
"No, I haven't," she practically snapped, eyes narrowed. "When you have a sister who is intent on using you to practice her hunting skills, I don't think 'playing' is on the menu... what playing is," she added, feeling quite embarrassed again about what she had talked about.
