Past rant topic: The fishing glitch and why I disagreed with the announcement on it.
Current rant: Dude, where's my guild? sad
As a few of you know, I belong to a few...well ok, now ALL (unless there's an RO one too) of the prominent VGP-like guilds in the Gaming forum. One of them has had a bit of friction recently' a bit of friction between many of the members including myself. A lot of them were separate incidences and many have gon into MIA mode because of them (myself included). My reasoning is that I felt very strongly that things were not being handled well in the guild and that it was unacceptable in it's current state. So I left.
This was a good while back, and tonight I went back to check on things.
...Where did everyone go? There's hardly anyone posting anymore. And guild business seems to have screeched to a halt. I browsed through the guild affairs thread to find trouble brewing anew with new suggestions of laws and policies that I find more than a little daft...and part of me wonders if I even want to go back anymore because of it.
The proposed rules that I have issue with include (and I'll explain one by one): 1.Banner Approval System 2.Mandatory monthly thread clean-up of the guild 3.Monthly member check ups to make sure they are doing their job 4.New members to be subject to post screening for a period of a week 5.Jobs
1. There was a fiasco (while I was gone) dealing with some members and their self made banners. The proposed idea is a banner approver.
I'm wondering in the first place why this is an issue. In here, it's assumed that you don't step over an unspoken line when representing the guild. We are Paladins. We are not flamers or the police of VGD (damn the acronym GD to heck! *shakes fist*). The same holds true for this other guild. However the fact that some members have made a mistake in what they present should be addressed as one general issue (as per Ember telling us all to cool it when he hears reports) to the guild and not a 'you may do this, but you cannot do THAT). If you're that unsure on the banner, chances are it's not good to post and taking the time YOURSELF to ask a guild leader their opinion isn't too hard.
2. This is all fine and dandy except for this stipulation:The Mod(s) in charge of clean-up will run through the threads, and delete what they think isn't needed anymore, no one argues, these people are put in charge because everyone TRUSTS their judgement. If they decide your birthday thread is no longer needed, then it's gone, done with, shut your mouth and move on.
Hello? maybe you have a good reason to keep your thread about. They need to do as we do with the marking the 'save' threads. It's much fairer. Additionally, who cares how many threads there are? It's not a whole new forum, it's all guild related.
3.Self explainatory: Wether they are in ED, Anime, FF, Music, etc. Aslong as they are in there posting appropriatly, reporting, and showing activity. Put someone, or someones in charge of post-stalking each member when the designated time arrives.
So now it comes to proving both that we have no faith in our own guild members, and we need to babysit them since they need to. Why? What is the point really? If there is a problem, it will surface, and when it does, deal with it. Trying to regulate members' posting in every aspect of gaia is more than demeaning, it's a waste of time.
4. Self explainatory again: When a new member is brought into the guild, after the nessesary processes above have been gone through (or an alternative process), the new member should be subject to post screening for a week, or a period of time designated.
Why would you screen them after accepting them? Acceptance into a guild (I assume) means that the applicant meets requirements to uphold your guild's good name. Why subject them to a second gauntlet? Better get ALL your screening done beforehand.
5. The jobs suggested included specific people to do the things I've already mentioned. Should these types of things go through...shouldn't they be restricted to jobs of the guild leader(s)? Someone in charge of the guild should be the only one to make such decisions.
I don't know. I feel a small flame of anger again towards the guild in general; mostly because since I left (and it seems many others have too), people still haven't gotten a clue. To 'revive' the guild (as they keep saying they are trying to do), it takes compromise, not more restrictions.
We as a guild flow well. We get along. Our rules WORK. Give me some feedback and suggestions possibly of rules of our own I can maybe suggest that might help.

Eh, looks to me more like he was just pointing out something that happened. It is unfortunate, and fixing crap like that is a pain, (trust me--I have no idea how many hours I've spent on some problems with my programs stressed ) so he is kinda justified in being annoyed. And there's no good way to find out who knew what was going on and who didn't... Well, people who did it repeatedly most likely knew, but there's no accurate way to know who just ended up doing it and who was intentionally exploiting it. (I don't think anyone would admit to that one stare )
Just my two cents.

The way I basically read that was "Don't expect the stores to work or donation letters anytime soon."
Bleh.

I think he meant it more like trying to deter people from abusing glitches. Maybe some people don't realize that when stuff like this happens, it affects many aspects of the site, not just a quick banning. *shrug*

Yah, like Traj said. He's telling normal Gaians "If you abuse glitches, it takes away time from things you want."

Didn't we do the jobs thing ages ago before guilds were implented? sweatdrop
The mass of n00bs have been decreasing because of the increased number of people with brains that are doing some reporting themselves. sweatdrop

I assumed there was a social RO guild (I sure couldn't join; I quit playing when I couldn't find a good freeserver).
