Faile's pups were gone. Every single one, save for an Eiros who was barely seen even at mealtimes. And as much as it hurt to see her son a shadow of what he should be, it cut even more deeply into the black wolfess' heart to know that another son was gone. Bindi and Vashti too, both of whom had done no wrong save to be in the wrong place at the wrong time. Bindi had fled with Dax, and Vashti was unable to remain in a place that had hosted such a terrible night.

Faile could see why her daughter made that choice. The cave that had once been so comfortable now seemed haunted and empty, even with Jaxom nestled by her side. Depression hung over the wolfess like a pall, withering her appetite away to nearly nothing.

She whined softly, head laid upon her forelegs. What had she done wrong?

Their offspring-

They were all gone except for Eiros who seemed scarce and slightly distant at times. Their small family had been shattered- Vashti had requested to stay with Damu and Taima in the South Seaside pack while Dax and Bindi had run off to a destination unknown together, some place far away where neither of them could be troubled or bothered. But like his mate, Jaxom's heart ached as the wounds had yet to heal from the terrible incident where flesh and blood, two brothers, fought against one another in spite and anger.

Curled beside his jet black mate, Faile, the beta's head rested upon his forepaws as his emerald eyes flickered with small tears trailing down towards his muzzle. He wanted to see them again- this broken family needed to be mended and they needed to make drastic changes. And there was a feeling that stirred within him that could only be noted as the first step of how to make things right.

They couldn't stay here.

Jaxom and Faile had to leave.

There was so much heartache and that fateful night seemed to be relived each day as the pair continued to abide within the same den within the same packlands. A new start; they needed to start over and make a new begining for themselves. Everything needed to change, it needed to make a change for the better.

Pressing against Faile as a soothing rumble sounded from his chest, Jaxom shifted his head and delicately licked at her cheek.

"Love, I...I think we should leave Tian Tang," he commented softly, the words a bit rough and stumbled slightly from his tongue but the tawny and carrot hued male gained his train of thought. "We can't stay here- it's destroying the both of us and if we want to mend this rift within the family then we have to start of new somewhere else."

"I don't think any of the children will want to come back here," he noted with a small whine to his voice, "but if we make our home someplace new where everyone will be comfortable then we'll have a greater chance at being a family again."

Faile snuggled up closer to her mate, nuzzling deep within his furry ruff. She was turning an idea over in her mind, one that had washed back up to shore now that it was apparent they could no longer remain here. But Jaxom had to stand behind her...if he disapproved, she would follow where he led. He was all she had left, along with her son. "Maybe..." she hesitated a moment, "Maybe we should start our own pack. Make sure that it's a good place to raise a family, to be safe. To...recover."

"Our...our own pack?" The words felt strange as they stumbled somewhat roughly from of of his tongue as instantly the brown and carrot hued male knitted his brows and pursed his lips with deep thought.

Jaxom wasn't so sure about creating their own pack yet, in truth, they couldn't stay long within the Tian Tang as ti seemed that the foul memory and the bitter past lingered heavily and would only plauge their mind and make them suffer the pain from wounds which fully had yet to heal. Both he and Faile needed to be mended and put in repair from the ordeals they had witnessed and encountered- the lack of understanding and compassion from one to another in dealing with their children, moreso on the topic of Dax and Eiros. How his heart still ached! Yet there was something inside of him that reasoned that there were others who were needing a new place to raise a family, to continue life and where those who were weak and alone could recover once more.

Within the borders of Telk, there were certain to be others who knew the bitter pain of lonelines and doubt. Both Faile and Jaxom couldn't be alone in this, that was certain.

As the jet black wolfess nuzzled deep into the ruff of fur, Jaxom rumbled softly as his ears flicked to the side. "Faile," he meekly spoke as he subconciously bit his lower lip- a nervous behavior he sometimes portrayed when he wasn't too sure which, now, was one of those moments. "I'm not sure I'm fit to lead a whole pack- I mean, there are so many out there and how could I ever be someone others want to look up to or put their trust in?"

Jaxom was humble as he truly thought that he wasn't quite the wolf to lead an entire pack; in his eyes, he thought himself more suited as a gamma rather than a beta which both Kouji and Nessa had found him worthy to take the title of. Jaxom thought himself just like every other wolf- an ordinary and simple wolf who was blessed with a beautiful mate and offspring. Yet he couldn't help but give a slight frown as his ears slid further back and his tail curled around him.

"I'm not too sure, love. I have every bit of faith in you that you'll make a great alpha but, as for myself, I don't think I'm suited for such a title."

Faile smiled softly at her mate. To be honest, she had expected this...his humility was one of the things she so loved about him. But if there was to be a pack, there had to be a united front...she needed him. "I know, love, and I would never ask you to do it alone," she murmured, nibbling on the edge of one tawny ear. "But I need you at my back, to present a united front...to correct me when I'm wrong. In short, my love...I need you." She nuzzled her head beneath Jaxom's. "And I'm not doing it without you."

He rumbled softly but couldn't help but bite down upon his lower lip although he did manage to smile a bit wider as his mate nibbled upon his ear. As Faile spoke, the tawny and carrot hued male knitted his brows yet again and slightly pursed his lips- tail thumping behind him as he gave a small sigh and flared his nostrils with a passing breath.

"I know- but, Faile..." his words seemed to stall and studder slightly as Jaxom lowered his head slightly, ears falling back.

What was he trying to argue? Why was he so scared? He didn't know. But the only thing that could reassure him was being with the one whom he loved and being with Faile. With her by his side, he knew that they could stand for something and unite for a cause in aid to others and those who were searching for some sanctuary and for a place where they could rest and be at peace.

Jaxom gave a nod of his head and licked at his mates cheek.

"I'll follow you every step of the way, love. Let's do it."

Faile felt the first surge of hope that she had felt in a long time. She needed this, she needed to do this. She needed to bring something constructive into her life to wipe away the destruction and pain. Maybe if she made life better for others, she could forgive the mess she had made of her own. Speaking of which... "You know, we might just get to bring sexy back," she teased with a light n**. "That's if you want to..."

Something that they could apply their time to, some task which didn't allow them to sit idle and dwell upon the past and the wounds that still had yet to heal would help them forget and continue on with their lives as best they could. Rather than laying in misery and sadness, the two would be able to help improve and brighten the lives of others with a new start and a begining- offering a new life and safety where the torment and fears of others would have no place.

Jaxom nodded his head and gave a small smile. He liked the idea and it seemed that Faile knew exactly what she wanted to do and what she could do and the tawny and carrot hued male felt more than comfortable to let her lead the way.

But his ears seemed to perk up slightly as she teased at hip and nipped softly. A wideset grin slid across his maw as a rush of pink seized his cheeks.

"Oh," he cooly spoke with an amused rumble. "Are you sure we'll have time to bring it back? That is- do you think you can bring it back again?"

A rumble rose from his chest as he licked at her cheek.

"Whose gonna bring sexy back first?"

"Is it really a matter of bringing it back if I'm already here?" Faile quipped, jade eyes flashing with laughter. She rolled onto her side, pawing playfully at her mate.

"So you'd be my beta? Unless you'd like to shoulder more of the load."

A chuckle rose from his throat as the male slumped down to his stomach, tail thumping upon the weary, desolate stone ground of the cave as he lowered his head onto his paws. He was getting older- he could feel it. Even the lustor within his emerald eyes had faded ever so slightly with the loss of time. It was strange to think that time almost seemed to be fleeting from him and already the seasons were changing right before him. Jaxom shifted his ears slightly with a minor flicker, his lips pursed in a delicate manner.

"Perhaps," he mused, flashing a small smile as he pawed at her muzzle. "Then I do believe you must stay on top of your game- or else I'm sure you'll have a handful of other suitors looking to steal your mates heart," Jaxom playfully teased but added. "Yet that would be rather unlikely, though. I only do need one mate."

At Faile's question, Jaxom let the cogs of his mind work silently.

Never had he thought of himself as an Alpha. It seemed that the personality and ones temperment which was demanded for such a leader never did fit his own quota nor standards. Truth be told Jaxom was a rather simple wolf and he knew that there were more qualified wolves whom could take on the responsabilites of such a task! But a beta? Yes- he had always been suited, at least in others opinions, for a right hand wolf and an intellectual thinker. Rather than having to balance the fate of a pack, Jaxom could balance dealings and decisions with support and affection.

He smiled. "Of course love. I'd rather stay by your side rather than shoulder the load- you might be more fitting for the task of Alpha than I am. I'd rather follow than lead," Jaxom admitted, a sincere and honest tone in his voice.

"I will follow you- never waiver and be there for you."
